I am writing you in regards that I might persuade you to provide me with ten extra points on my semester grade average. I strongly believe everyone has difficulty maintaining a decent grade throughout some point in their high school year. I just so happen to have a little trouble as well, this is why I believe I should be provided in receiving the ten extra points. High school can definitely be a great challenge for anyone attending it; therefore, it is always good to take advantage of any extra credit, or extra points to help you maintain your grade. Just in case you fail one assignment you will always have the extra credit points to help you maintain your grade. I realize keeping up your grades is very important and you should always keep them …show more content…
up; however, some students, such as myself, have a very hard time trying to concentrate. Not being able to concentrate will not only make it harder for you to understand, but it will make it harder for you to learn as well. The students that have a harder time concentrating may need “one-on-one” sessions. I noticed teachers could not give out extra credit to everybody, especially a large amount of points, but some students who work hard should receive the points. I think giving extra credit points to help out with our semester grade average is a wonderful idea, although, not everyone will receive the extra ten points.
I believe I should be one of the few students who does receive ten extra points for the following reasons; I am a hardworking student, I may slack off every now and then, but in the end I make sure I get my work done and keep my grades up as well. I will not tolerate a failing grade and I will do everything in my power to make sure I am passing, I am a very determined student. I think I definitely deserve extra credit points. Class work can pile up especially being a junior. That is the reason I feel as I should receive these points. I do not want to repeat this class over again, nor does anyone else. Does anyone want to repeat a class? Do you think it is fair to fail someone because of a couple of point? Would you want to repeat a class? If you answered no to all the questions, then we are on the same page. I strongly hope you take my letter into consideration. I am the student who deserves the extra points. I may not come to class on time daily, but I am a very hardworking student who deserves extra points. Thank you for taking the time to read my
letter.
The courses Math and Science were examples Staples used regarding the change in the grade point average weight. For some people math and science are hard course to take while in high school or college. However, math is very easy for me but I know it requires various steps to be done to receive one answer. On the other hand, I struggle in science learning parts of the body, different species, and etc. Staples proposal can be beneficial to all universities, online universities, and myself as well. I am challenged everyday by teachers to prove to them I deserve every grade I receive. I have to do the all my work to receive the good grades; however, failure to do my work results into zeros; thus, causing myself to have a low grade in the course or failing the course. I feel as if students should not have the opportunity to appeal their grades if they have a B and want an A. I know it requires a lot of paperwork and bring confirmation among the teachers and their
In the article “Making the Grade,” published in Newsweek Magazine, Professor Kurt Wiesenfeld states that students in the modern society believe that they should receive grades based on their desires and potential rather than their academic performance and personal effort. It is arguable that students should be allowed to have some leniency based on the fact that there may be obstacles distracting or refraining them from completing their work. I believe that it is the students responsibility to maintain or improve their grades by implementing hard work, consistency and dedication to their studies.
In Ms. Hardy’s 4th period class, all students had to earn 60 points, 30 A.R., and 30 not A.R. this counts as 20 percent of your grade.
As a college student, is the idea of your final grade being based off of just a midterm and final very stressful? O 'Malley argues in his essay "More Testing, More Learning" that professors should give out more quizzes and assignments to reduce the stress and procrastination students face before midterms and finals. Although this might be helpful for a high school setting, it would not be completely efficient at a college level. This is because frequent testing takes up a significant amount of students and professors time, are added stress throughout the year, will not fix a students procrastination, and having high stake tests prepares students for their future. Some of O 'Malley 's ideas seem reasonable and would help students while others are an inconvenience for the professor and students.
In conclusion, I believe that the grade system is important to the success of the students so can know where they stand in a course as far as grades are concern, and they are able to motivate themselves to light their grades up higher than before as well as the Instructors can see where students need help and they can play an important role in a students career as far as them knowing what areas they need assisting in so they might succeed.
Grades, are a way to show how a student’s effort and work processes. They track progress, they reflect the quality of work the students can achieve. I, have learned a lot of new things this first year of the career center about Photoshop, even though I have used Photoshop before in the past. I believe that I’ve gained a 87 as a grade for Graphics Design class. I have always been here to class, mostly on time, and have an excellent attendance. Occasionally, late in the past and missed one or two days. But, most of the time I’m here and ready to learn for the everyday.
I chose to take the classes that I am in now. I could have dropped two of them, CHS Latin IV and AP Calculus, and graduated just fine, but those are two of the classes I actually like this semester. That means that I have three AP courses and a CHS course all in the same semester. Therefore English, as my least favorite subject, took the bottom slot on my to-do list. Given my workload, I never got to the bottom of my to-do list. By the way, I am referring to a physical list I have on my phone, not an imaginary to-do list. The problem I am frustrated with here is that when I do complete work for this class, I do not receive the same grade that it seems everyone else is receiving for the same quality work. The mind map we just did is a prime example. There are still students that have not submitted the assignment and you were trying to tell me mine was late. A student from the alternate class made a mind map with such little information on it I'm surprised they did it at all. The grade of the former is yet to be seen. The latter received full credit. By grading my work with greater scrutiny, or by nitpicking, what do you
In the letter to the college adminitstrators, the students’ wrote a letter urgeing the school not to make community service a requirement. The student had many valid point’s on why this should not happen, while the paper had a strong introduction, and a good overall argument there are many mistake with syntax ,and sentence structure. To be taken seriously by the administrative staff, the student needs to consider revising the letter. In the following paragraphs I will be discussing what mistakes I found and make some suggetions of what should have been written, to give the letter more flow.
I do want to respect every teacher and they choose they make, but why can a student not turn in an assignment for half credit when it is less than a day late. Personally, the extra credit assignments were justified as my efforts were included on the grades that I would receive. Making everyone’s grades on tests 1 and 2 was rash and unnecessary, but I do not want to focus my concerns on everyone else. If my score was a hundred on the first two tests, the logic follows that I feel my efforts were wasted. The professor does have the say, meaning, he may choose as he wishes. In one of my other classes, SOC 101, I emailed the professors about curving and if he would give me a 90 is I got an 89.7 and he responded a no. Why is it that people would do not show up to class and cheat on homework and tests get an A, but I showed up to every class and did the homework and study for the test and took the tests, just to get a B? I could have to go to any class, asked someone to click in for and asked the person to do my homework for me. By not doing anything, I could get a better grade. Sometimes, the path of least resistance seems like the right one. This class was based on participation on paper and tests on paper, making the discrepancy between the class less likely. I did learn a lot in this class about seeing what others can but do not think
Last Semester GPA was a 2.8. I know that is an acceptable grade point average. I will work hard this semester to do better. The grade point average makes me upset, makes not want to continue school.I will be lenient given the circumstances I made myself face. I have many reasons on why I received the grade point average that I did.I have not grown much since arriving on campus. What kept me on track in some of my classes was writing everything down on my agenda or calendar. Also I studied when it was convenient. I also completed my assignments on time and done them when ask to. What I did not do was studied when I needed to, ask for help when I needed it, have access to necessary materials, and have a work schedule to get everything done.
...rived at the desk. I am done with my biology major. All I have to take is Biology 381(senior seminar to complete the rest of my major). And Biology of Women is a very easy class if you do the work. From making these big changes I can assure you I will hit the three point mark. I have a 95 average in my Philosophy Honors Class, his class consists of no tests but you have do critiques and I received mostly all check pluses and I have a 100 average in Criminal Justice 225. In French 177, I received an A- on my presentation her class has no test but you do need to participate and if you don’t like a grade you can redo the assignment over and get a better grade at the end. For senior seminar our grade as not been report but I have turned in 32 pages for my regular thesis and still working on my honors thesis. I have been bless that the things are tuning around my life
One change institutions should make to the grading system is to eliminate all factors that have noting to do with learning outcomes from affecting the students’ grade. According to the article, “Assessment of Learning Outcomes: What’s the difference?” written by Carnegie Mellon University, grades are often based on more than learning outcomes. Instructors usually include factors unrelated to learning outcomes such as attendance to class, participation, improvement and in some cases, grades are boosted a bit due to how hard the student is working.” These factors are
The current grading system should be upgraded, and every school should incorporate the plus/minus system in their method of grading. Public high schools began a grading system as a way of telling an individual how they were performing. There was no interest by the public in reporting the school’s progress in teaching. Teachers, in an effort to recognize outstanding performers, looked for a way of rewarding hard-working students for their efforts. The grading structure changed from superior and excellent to A’s and B’s.
I believe that I deserve a B preferably an A because I believe that I did good this semester. As a junior this semester was very challenging for me. But I kept going with hard work and some dedication. One of my biggest struggles this semester was Math 170. Math has always been my downfall but I always try to get it. But this semester it just didn’t happen. But I can say that I did try, actually I tried really hard to get my work done. I also have a problem with procrastination, that’s something I really need to work on. If I didn’t learn anything this semester I learned that unasked questions don’t get answered. I feel as though I should have come to you more often for questions because I know that I didn’t understand the material. I learned my lesson and that will never happen again. Also, even though I didn’t get majority of it I still tried; I should get some credit for that. I took the first part of this final and got a 93, perhaps that could be my final grade right there. Despite taking 17 credits this semester, along with being a Resident Assistant, I have managed to complete all of the assignments for this class. Though I didn’t ace each and every assignment I did manage to complete or attempt them. So far I’ve had a lot of good grades in my other classes, and once again I can say Math 170 was the most challenging. I believe that I deserve a B preferably an A because I always try to do my best in everything in school, because school is important and my future depends on what I do now in school, and the grades I get are very important. When we had class I always took notes, and never been afraid to ask questions when need be. All of my professors told me that I’m a good student and that I’m going to be very s...
Through my grade book, I enjoyed my freshman year and got a better grade in my second semester. I am aware it’s not perfect, but I worked hard to adjust myself into new collage, in the new country. Overcoming the language obstacle, culture shock made me have the ability to orientate myself in a new environment. I am so happy I have a chance to be part of Virginia Tech.
