How should a college student decide a major?

One of the challenging decisions for future college students falls on choosing a major. Major choices will strongly impact students’ future life and living standards based on earning, future pursue of degrees and career choices. It is a dynamic decision for college students and they should decide their major by their personality, interests and future occupational choices.

The first way for students to choose a suitable major is to accord with their own interests. After students finish their senior year in high school, they should develop their own perspective of the future and they may most likely to find out a field where they are more passionate in. "The idea for students today to grasp is that they can choose to study something that they are passionate about, an academic area that they love, without knowing what vocational path that might lead to," says Varejcka-McGee, an academic adviser at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln (Burnsed, cited from Varejcka-McGee, 2011 ). If the student has passion in what he majors in, he will perceive more happiness in learning; this can help him to get higher Grade Point Average which leads to a better chance to get an internship opportunity for him. …show more content…

Personalities can actually determine their future path. Personality traits may be related to preferences for certain styles of behavior (Almlund, Duckworth, Heckman and Kautz, 2011) or subject matters. They therefore determine what individuals like and enjoy and what kind of jobs they can imagine themselves doing for the rest of their work-lives.
