28 February 2017 Tablets, along with other forms of technology, have evolved over the years making it possible to do nearly anything on a hand held touch screen device, rather than a desktop computer. With internet connectivity nearly anything is available and new apps are available every day to help productivity and aid education. Textbooks are often quickly outdated and are much heavier than a simple tablet computer. Tablets can stay up to date with all information at a year to year basis and can be a replacement to almost all paper used in classrooms. On average students pay $1200 a year on textbooks, between 1990 and 2009 prices rose at four times the rate of inflation. E-books, or digital textbooks, can be bought at a much cheaper price, often a third less than new printed books. E-books can be rented at a better price than that of print copies as well (John). The weight of a book bag can be dramatically different when filled with books, or just a tablet and charger cables. By purchasing a tablet, students can begin to save large amounts of money for every e-book they buy rather than hard copy. The investment into a tablet could very well change the way students learn and save them money as well.

This survey also found that seventy-nine percent of students believe that tablets help them do better in class (New). Tablets not only include access to e-books but also access to an ever growing library of both free and purchasable applications, that includes all forms of games, social media, and learning guides. Tablets can be useful in education from the beginning years of school all the way through higher education. The only things necessary to aid students with learning on tablets is the device itself, the proper applications, and a strategic plan to teaching with
Anthropologists learn about a culture through participant observation. They often experience cultural shock when encountering with different cultures. Horace Miner in his essay Body Ritual among the Nacirema wrote about the unusual rituals and beliefs of the Nacirema. He describes the Nacirema as a North American group whose rituals originated from their magical beliefs. When I first read the essay, the practices of Nacirema seems ridiculous to me. However, I was amazed when I found out that Nacirema turns out to be the word American, but spelled backward. I then reread the essay and realized that the culture hero, Notgnihsaw and the temple, latipso are also the wordplay of Washington and hospital. After all, the essay was a satirical essay
... I’d rather have paper to write down and make my own citations and marks depending on the subject, but if I’m reading a novel, then using a tablet is great, and I’m able to carry as many books as I need. It’s amazing how technology has shaped our educational system over the years and especially in the last 10 years. Honestly, it was only a matter of time before we arrived at this crossroad. It still remains to be seen how this path will be navigated and implemented fully, but I’m excited to be on the journey.
Head to head hits are still a prevalent issue in the Nfl. Should head to head hits lead to an ejection from the game? If a player in college football commits an intentional helmet to helmet hit, the penalty is an ejection. If college football can input this penalty, couldn’t the NFL? We see that former football players who suffered many concussions over their playing careers, have long lasting effects. Some current players feel as though that they can’t control where their hits land and injuries are just a part of the game. Some fans feel as though all these penalties are taking the fun away the game. Former NFL players are an example of what helmet to helmet hits can do.
People are convinced that technology is an effective tool that will further learning. This can be true, but when you use tablets
Though printed books require additional costs such as printing, publishing, branding and merchandising, many students prefer them because no prior experience of technology is required. A major drawback with the e-books is that they use batteries in order to function. Generally speaking, with the option of print books, students do not need to access an e-reading device. In terms of tangibility, they are able to put marks and take down mental notes as an effective method of understanding. Students can even reread various paragraphs and interpret them from different perspectives, even after years. However, this is not possible with e-books because the pages students read on devices, are transient. Moreover, students are unable to preserve such books, even after long periods of
”Books will soon be obsolete in the schools...Scholars will soon be instructed through the eye. It is possible to touch every branch of human knowledge with the motion picture” (Thomas Edison). An idea that was destined for failure has now been made into the key source to get students and teachers more interacted while in a classroom setting. Tablets such as the iPad and the Microsoft surface have made this idea possible, showing students that there is another alternative to the traditional method which would be a printed version of the textbook. Tablets are portable computers that use a touchscreen as its primary input device, meaning that both keyboard and mouse are both physically located on the screen. Early Tablets were built to be used with a pen, today however tablets can be used with just one finger or multiple fingers with the support of multi touch input. Tablet have had a positive input on society especially students in school that are looking to get their work done in an engaging way and, not by moving a pen or pencil like it’s been done for decades. Tablets have proven to be the better tool for learning among students.
Which would one prefer to carry on their back, one one-billionth of a gram or two tons? The average four-gigabyte tablet can hold 2,300 eBooks that only weigh one one-billionth of a gram. These books would weigh over two tons as printed textbooks. The implementation of tablets and eBooks instead of textbooks in K-12 schools would result in benefiting the future generations. This shift would result in developing more intellectual students, cause less damage to the health of the students and the environment, educate and prepare students on the technological world in which they live, and would be more cost efficient in the long run.
Celebration Jesus described heaven like a party – a celebration (Sabella, 2014). Matthew 22:2-4 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready.
The Rogerian Essay on “Should Tablets Replace Textbooks in Schools”? The average American reads about nine books in a year, mostly for pleasure. In this current era, there is a book for everything, including cook books, school textbooks, to fiction novels. The two most common ways to read these books are the traditional paper book and the electronic book. With technology advancing every day, it is no wonder that people want to just flick their finger across the screen to turn the page, but there will always be people who enjoy the smell of a freshly opened book and physically touching the pages.
Paper has officially been replaced with iPads. Just kidding, but there are over 1.5 million iPads that are being used in classrooms by students on a daily bases rather than using printed textbooks as main learning resources (Graduating With Technology). With recent advancements in technology, many school districts have turned the focus off traditional learning methods of using textbooks, and are now focusing on integrating the use of tablets and computers as the main means of learning for students. Technology is going to continue to advance throughout this digital age and is going to gain popularity within education, but there are questions arising of how effective technology is when used in the classroom. The opportunity of using new technology to enhance learning should be seized, but textbooks should not become extinct within the education system or become a secondary learning method due to tablets and other types of technology becoming more popular in the education system. Textbooks are reliable, they can be used by anyone, and there are enough textbooks for each student to have their own, and be able to take them home. Also, technology is impacting the way the brain receives information. Reading digital print isn't as productive for readers as printed text, and there is limited access to resources needed for tablets to be effective when used by students. While this is true there are benefits to using tablets and other forms of technology in the classroom. It is easier for teachers to have assignments emailed directly to them, or post assignments on the internet, the use of technology is required in many core classes, and textbooks are easily worn, and expensive.
As more people began to access the Internet through smart phones and tablets rather than laptops and computers, it is not a surprise that they would also want to transform the American education system by bringing tablets into classrooms. In fact, a few schools around the country have already replaced textbooks with tablets and have seen improvements in students’ standardized test scores. Using tablets instead of textbooks is not only convenient and helpful, but it can also reduce the amount of paper wastes in school. However, it is not a good idea to completely transform textbooks with tablets with the current technology, for it can not only be damaging to the environment and costly to set up, but also might not be effective in improving K-12 education in the long run.
Technology in the classroom has become a greatly debated topic. With the introduction of e-textbooks and tablets, some schools have inspired a new excitement to learn by the use of tablets in the classroom. The use of tablets in classrooms is not only sparking excitement, it is a more effective way to teach students. While tablets are becoming more popular for personal use, the most promising area for tablets is in the classroom (Bonds-Raacke 235). Tablets do not just benefit students, they also assist teachers. Tablets are more effective than textbooks in the classroom due to student attentiveness, more current learning, and the ease of meeting students’ needs.
There are a lot of causes school that school should switch over to tablets or iPads instead of textbooks. These are the five main causes of problem in textbooks: heavy, expensive, don’t have features like tablets or iPads has, the textbooks also bad for environment, and textbooks not likely going to boost math score like tablets or iPads does. In 2013, student get injured by carrying overweight backpack which is lot textbook of textbooks, but if that textbook was change tablets or iPads then the weight of pack will change drastically (Elizabeth). “According to the FCC, the U.S. spends about $7 bills per year on textbooks, but many of them are seven to ten years out date” This means textbooks that was bought was outdated after several and it
It makes sense in a world where we have so many resources at our fingertips to utilize tablets in the classroom. One of children’s primary responsibilities growing up is to attend school and learn content to progress academically. Tablets can assist students in obtaining and learning information quicker, The Federal Communications Commission notes, “Technology-based instruction can reduce the time students take to reach a learning objective by 30-80%, according to the US Department of Education and studies by the National Training and Simulation Association. (Digital Textbook Playbook, 2012)” Relevant information is also pertinent, with technology based learning students can have updated information with quick automatic updates. New versions of texts are often immerging, leaving students with outdated materials. Students will have access to the most up to date materials and schools will not have to purchase and replace physical copies or updated software (Oblinger and Oblinger,
What is so special about using these fancy gadgets that makes them more beneficial or different than using hand-held textbooks? Discussions have begun to develop, and the controversy over this topic continues to increase. Although there are many benefits to using online books in schools, textbooks should not be replaced by tablets or any other electronic devices in the classroom. It is true that the majority of textbooks are not up to date with modern information and can therefore be seen as unreliable sources.
