Technology in the classroom has become a greatly debated topic. With the introduction of e-textbooks and tablets, some schools have inspired a new excitement to learn by the use of tablets in the classroom. The use of tablets in classrooms is not only sparking excitement, it is a more effective way to teach students. While tablets are becoming more popular for personal use, the most promising area for tablets is in the classroom (Bonds-Raacke 235). Tablets do not just benefit students, they also assist teachers. Tablets are more effective than textbooks in the classroom due to student attentiveness, more current learning, and the ease of meeting students’ needs. Tablets are more effective than textbooks because they increase student attentiveness …show more content…
“Studies have indicated that the new technologies could present better ways to serve students in reading, compared to a traditional print book” (Delacruz 68). This is supported by the point that tablets increase participation in classrooms (Armstrong 41). Technology promotes a more positive attitude about learning than the traditional textbook (Armstrong 41). Students enjoy using tablets, therefore they are more motivated to learn. Technology positively affects learning because students have a more positive attitude towards doing school work (Martinez 125). Because tablets create a better classroom experience for students, they are more effective than …show more content…
Nearpod is a free app for teachers to use with their students. The app provides interactive learning for students, while still keeping the teacher the controller of the presentation. Thus there is no fear of losing control. Nearpod can be on each student’s device, but the lesson is still planned and synchronized by the teacher. Educators can use Nearpod for a variety of things including videos, slideshows, quizzes, and even pole questions (Delacruz 64). Another benefit of teachers using Nearpod is that the grading is done for them (Delacruz 68). The app quickly grades assignments and teachers are given immediate feedback. Nearpod also allows students to see their results from guided reading through pole questions or quizzes. The app significantly helps students who are learning the English language through this type of guided reading (Delacruz 65). Students prefer Nearpod over regular books when engaged in guided reading. Elementary school students in the South Eastern part in the United States used Nearpod in their classroom. The students were preschool aged through sixth grade and prefered the Nearpod app over textbooks (Delacruz 67). Nearpod is just one example of how both students and teachers can benefit from the use of tablets in the
In addition, textbooks are heavy to carry around and it takes longer to find a page. Likewise with digital textbooks they are compatible with tablets, smartphones, and laptops; it’s much easier to carry around and affordable price. However, some people may argue that digital textbooks can be a distraction for people because they would not bother read anymore. The author and poet Dana Gioia argues that electronics alternatives may be a bad influence that will lead society to not read anymore. Gioia complicates matters further when she writes, “While no single activity is responsible for the decline in reading, the cumulative presence and availability of electronic alternatives increasingly have drawn Americans away from reading” (161). I think Gioia is mistaken because she overlooks on electronics being a bad influence; but doesn’t see the benefits of electronics. To demonstrate, most of my textbooks are digital, which I can easily carry my tablet around where ever I go. Also, I save more money on digital textbooks and are simple to annotated the text. Journalist Ellen Lee interview a student from Liberty University, and he states that he prefers digital textbooks because he can tap his iPad, opens the digital copy and quickly open the page. Nevertheless, he also like digital textbooks because it has a feature that allows to highlight and mark the

Recently, many schools have initiated a blended learning programme. These programmes provide a one-on-one student to device ratio and have caused much controversy. This scrutiny is only intensified when discussing the effect of such environments on children as young as the age of six, and many experts disagree with this practice. This essay will discuss the negative effects of younger children using devices (predominately iPads). Some of these reasons include: the negative effect iPads have on a developing child's social skills; the way these devices hinder muscle development, especially in the region of the hand and wrist; the possibility of becoming addicted; and the detrimental repercussions on the brains ability to process words and sounds quickly. Ipads are also proven to reduce young children's vocabulary.
...ating technology provides students with opportunities to succeed in reading and writing. As an educator, and possibly a future literacy educator it is vital to teach students that learning is not something that only happens in school. Learning will happen every day for as long as one lives. Learning happens at school, at home, at a sporting event, at the mall, or on the computer. Learning happens everywhere. It is also important to teach students reading is everywhere and it will follow them the rest of their life. As educators, we need to help students enjoy reading and develop a love for it that will last forever. It is our role to therefore provide the best instruction possible and use assessment that allows children to succeed. Most importantly, as life long learners ourselves, we need to strive to make sure that our students become and stay life long learners.
Tablets can help improve the way students attain their studies. According to Cam Lincoln “Students who used the iPad version of the textbook scored 20 percent higher on standardized test versus students who learned with traditional textbook”(parag.2).This demonstrates that, students who used the iPad version of the textbook learned more effectively than the students who learned with traditional textbooks. The iPad clearly shows that it can help improved test scores. According to National Association for the Education of Young Children “for children with minimal exposure to technology or limited engli...
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
I think technology is a key component in the classroom, especially for our students to become prepared for the 21st century. In this course, I learned so much for my 2017-2018 4th graders. I have created four products to increase student engagement with the use of technology. Nearpod and Edpuzzle for two different reading lessons, a QR Code lesson for Social Studies, and a Flipped Classroom lesson for math. These products are interactive, exciting, and resourceful.
Image a school with laptops available to each student to complete their class notes, teachers who are able to help their students through the screens of their computer, children who are excited to learn about numbers with the help of cute, animated characters. With the endless advancement of today’s technology, schools across the world have begun integrating various technology into their curriculum. These devices have the potential to greatly impact students in their learning. When a school opts to use technology in a school setting, the most important factors they should take into consideration are the benefits of using technological devices, the effectiveness of technology used

As you are transitioning from high school to college you are faced with many arduous decisions. One of these dilemmas would be choosing what kind of technology you want to use at school: a laptop or a tablet. My opinion for you, as a high school student transitioning to college, would be to choose a laptop because they are superior to tablets in many ways.
There has been a hot discussion for quite some time between readers using printed books and the ones using eBooks. This has been closely linked to the comfort and gain realized by these respective readers. By using a number of devices such as mobile phones and computers, e readers are suggesting that that is the best way to read books. Additionally, they say that reading online allows them to enjoy the process and gain much in the long run. This has been largely disputed by readers that prefer printed books on the basis of attention and nurturing abilities. It can be clearly be seen that EBooks are better than printed ones in the essay below.
As more people began to access the Internet through smart phones and tablets rather than laptops and computers, it is not a surprise that they would also want to transform the American education system by bringing tablets into classrooms. In fact, a few schools around the country have already replaced textbooks with tablets and have seen improvements in students’ standardized test scores. Using tablets instead of textbooks is not only convenient and helpful, but it can also reduce the amount of paper wastes in school. However, it is not a good idea to completely transform textbooks with tablets with the current technology, for it can not only be damaging to the environment and costly to set up, but also might not be effective in improving K-12 education in the long run.

In today’s world, people are no longer confined to reading print books. Many people are embracing the digital world they live in by accessing reading materials through electronic devices. Over the last couple of years, e-reading capabilities have shifted to become available through devices like smart phones, tablets, computers, and e-book readers. While many individuals have noted the physical differences between reading print versus reading electronically, few have studied if the use of e-readers alters the manner in which material is read. Without the consideration of these effects, many schools have begun using electronic reading devices in the classroom as a substitute for print books. Therefore, it is important that the effects of e-reader usage on their ability to understand or comprehend literature be studied, in order to afford today’s children, the internet generation, the best opportunities for success in literacy.
In the United States one third of students K-12 have some type of school issued one to one device. (David Nagel) For students it can be a great way to gain insight on topics that may not be in a small school library or to share assignments from teacher to student. A study on University of California Irvine's iMedEd program utilized iPads in their program by giving every student an iPad with electronic textbooks, as well as podcasts of lectures and class management systems on the iPad's iTunes U software. Using these iPads it was found that they would score 23% better on exams with the iPad rather than without.
