Laptops vs. Tablets As you are transitioning from high school to college you are faced with many arduous decisions. One of these dilemmas would be choosing what kind of technology you want to use at school: a laptop or a tablet. My opinion for you, as a high school student transitioning to college, would be to choose a laptop because they are superior to tablets in many ways. Imagine yourself in a college classroom writing an essay or making a power-point on your tablet. Suddenly, you attempt to save the assignment, and you get a notification that says you do not have any storage left to save the work you have slaved over to get finished. Now you are faced with a difficult decision of how to quickly fix the predicament you are in so all of …show more content…
The average tablet starts off by offering 16 GB of storage capacity or more. This storage is easily consumed by apps like Word, Excel, and Power-Point or pictures. With the storage being scarce, it makes it difficult to rely on saving your documents. If you choose a tablet to use for school, then you are always in a constant threat of being in the catastrophic scenario of running out of storage capacity. You could easily fix the problem by buying a 256 GB or 512 GB storage capacity, but you will be paying an unreasonable price. With tablets, the extra storage is not …show more content…
Tablets are touchscreen, therefore they do not have a built-in keyboard. Without a built-in keyboard, tablets make it difficult to do hardcore research, take notes, and write essays, because not everything is compatible with mobile devices. Tablets were not built to do school assignments on. They were built for entertainment purposes such as games, small Internet use, and watching T.V. shows, videos, or movies. The final reason I prefer laptops over tablets is because of the cost. As an upcoming college student, you are going to experience the obstacle of being broke all the time. By purchasing a laptop, you are saving a ton of money. The price of laptops usually starts around 200 dollars and inclines depending on what brand you purchase and how much storage you need. When you purchase a laptop with a high storage capacity, you are practically buying more storage for free. In contrast, tablets are very expensive. By purchasing a tablet, you are wasting your money that could be going towards your books or other necessities for college. The prices of a tablet depend on how much storage you think you are going to need for school. The usual starting price for a laptop with 16 GB, depending on the brand, is 500 dollars. In other words, you are buying more storage for more money, when you should be saving. Like I said previously, with tablets the extra storage is not
I am a current student of Thompson Rivers University and I would like to have a device that would easily provide me with accessible data and personal files, as there is a lack of available computers in the computer laboratories. This need has prompted me to the idea to buy a tablet. Many factors would convince me to purchase a particular model/brand, such as: national/religion and geographical environment, social status, and age. My interest to a modern device is a result of the upbringing in a modern society, with achievements in the field of electronic equipment and attendant skills of a consumer and corresponding set of values. Having a background in computer science, I know how important it is to have a good quality
What device is cost effective, keeps students globally connected, and can operate offline when wifi is not available? The lightweight chromebook has all the noted features and more. Students all over the world obtain similar problems where education is concerned and many school districts have been searching for a universal solution. So experts asked themselves and surveyed students about which issues were the most dire and then proceeded with research to determine which digital device would suffice for students, according to their suggestions. Most students complain about crammed lockers ready to explode with textbooks, having to carry multiple, heavy textbooks from classroom to classroom, not having access to their documents on the computer,
My requirements are basic I need a computer that I can use for school assignments, browsing the internet, hearing music and my favorite watching movies. School assignments are based on research and writing so a writing application is a must when deciding on a laptop. Along with these requirements, I also want a computer with a large monitor to better view movies and an HDMI port to connect to my television. It is also very important that my future laptop contain
It can cause many distractions, it can be difficult to use and can take away from learning time. People are convinced that technology is an effective tool that will further learning. This can be true, but when you use tablets and different devices in class for an hour every day, the students will not be focused on schoolwork. In the article “Technology in the Classroom: Beginnings and Endings”, Mary Ann Matras suggests that, “The pencil is still the most efficient tool”.
Problem Recognition: My laptop was outdated. I needed something that was new, sleek and easy to carry in my bag. So, I decided to buy a tablet.
The only flaw that I see in owning this tablet is the initial price. Depending on the amount of storage you would like; it can range anywhere from $500-$700. It is a hefty price compared to competitors, but you will get your moneys worth.
...ucial part in our everyday lives. Yes, students can choose a MacBook Pro or Air over a PC, even a Chrome Book, but for students looking for budget-friendly computers (trust me, there's thousands of them) I bet you that they will choose a Windows 8 or Windows 7 laptop.
Tablets increase students interactivity and their creativity in the classroom. “When students use computers, it offers workplace-like situations that require independent, self-directed learning, thus preparing students with college and career readiness skills,” according to Doug Levin, SETDA’s executive director (Reiss).
”Books will soon be obsolete in the schools...Scholars will soon be instructed through the eye. It is possible to touch every branch of human knowledge with the motion picture” (Thomas Edison). An idea that was destined for failure has now been made into the key source to get students and teachers more interacted while in a classroom setting. Tablets such as the iPad and the Microsoft surface have made this idea possible, showing students that there is another alternative to the traditional method which would be a printed version of the textbook. Tablets are portable computers that use a touchscreen as its primary input device, meaning that both keyboard and mouse are both physically located on the screen. Early Tablets were built to be used with a pen, today however tablets can be used with just one finger or multiple fingers with the support of multi touch input. Tablet have had a positive input on society especially students in school that are looking to get their work done in an engaging way and, not by moving a pen or pencil like it’s been done for decades. Tablets have proven to be the better tool for learning among students.
Technology has greatly evolved over the centuries. Machines have been aiding man to ease their work, fight in wars, travel, health, and different aspects of life. Telling time, keeping up with friends, finding information, and many more have never been easier with the making of the computer. The computer has evolved over the decades becoming the need by many people. Students have used computers, laptops, and tablets to help them with their academics. Having such technology seems to be de rigueur in the past years. The Macbook Air and the Ultrabooks are one of the new laptops of 2013. The former was first introduced on January 15, 2008, while the latter was introduced on October 2011.
Comparing Notebook and Desktop Computers Computers are one of the most popular kinds of electronic devices in the world today. Whether a kid or adult, male or female, everyone wants to learn how to operate the computer. People use computers for different purposes such as typing papers, creating websites, making presentations, browsing the internet, playing games, etc. In fact, many people are still confused about choosing what kind of computer they want to buy. In the world today, there are two types of computers: notebook/laptop and desktop.
The development of technology in this country has been significant to the daily lives of Americans today. In the twenty-first century, one of the greatest accomplishments of technology is the use of laptops. People, such as students, are facing the fact that laptops have made their lives easier. Some colleges and universities have allowed that each student bring their personal laptops with internet connectivity to class while others believe they easily weaken the learning abilities of students instead of promoting and increasing learning in the classroom. Although personal laptops in the classroom have numerous advantages, there have also been frequent complaints from professors because laptops hinder with learning, and as a result should be banned from bringing them into the classroom since laptops can easily distract students, not every student can afford purchasing a laptop, and would prevent students from cheating or plagiarizing.
10. In the function of an unlawful entry in your property, computers are typically a lot less expensive than mobile computing. With laptops, you 're paying more for the ease of transportability. For as little as $299.00, desk-top computers can be purchased from one of the top makers and a laptop for as little as $499.00.
As more people began to access the Internet through smart phones and tablets rather than laptops and computers, it is not a surprise that they would also want to transform the American education system by bringing tablets into classrooms. In fact, a few schools around the country have already replaced textbooks with tablets and have seen improvements in students’ standardized test scores. Using tablets instead of textbooks is not only convenient and helpful, but it can also reduce the amount of paper wastes in school. However, it is not a good idea to completely transform textbooks with tablets with the current technology, for it can not only be damaging to the environment and costly to set up, but also might not be effective in improving K-12 education in the long run.
First is desktop. Desktop pricing is very ranged. It goes between if you want to buy an already built tower or buy all the parts and put it together yourself. For a already built tower, It is very a steep price and not as rewarding. For parts that you build, it is quite inexpensive. The only thing about it is its very specific and certain parts work together. Computer knowledge is required for this route. Now the laptop. Laptops are not at all surprising expensive and parts vary based on model. Getting a laptop that fits your needs requires you to either throw your entire wallet or pray the laptop you get works well. Basically a grab
