I spend over 4 to 5 hours on internet each day. Because people already have to pay for their phone and the bill each month. Such as AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon from controlling what people can watch and see on the internet. This allows educators, students, and families access to information, apps, websites, and videos. I think people should not have to pay for internet access.
People who pay for their phone or bought their kids the phone have to pay over 1,000 just for the phone and the games they might like that cost money usually cost 2 dollars or more. Some outside experts question, that paying for performances model due to the risk that teachers may scale. I agree with this sentence in the text because the teachers and students do not always
According to www.telegraph.co.uk, “[y]oung people aged between 16 and 24 spend more than 27 hours a week on the internet.” Certainly this much internet usage would have an effect on someone. What exactly is the effect of using the internet too much? Nicholas Carr’s article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” argues that we are too reliant on the internet and it is making the us dim-witted and shortens our attention span. While Clive Thompson’s article “Smarter than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better” states that technology is not only a collection of knowledge, it also a method of sharing and recording our own knowledge. I fall between both Carr and Thompson. I agree with car on his points of us being too reliant on the internet but disagree when he states that it is making us less intelligent. Meanwhile, I also support Thompson’s statement that the internet allows us to assimilate vast amounts of knowledge but disagree with his opinion on how we should be reliant on
All the students rush out the door as the school bell rings, taking out their extravagant and expensive phones. Everyone leaves, and just by the sight of the empty hallway, there are calculators, textbooks and more electronics that are worth a great amount of money. Students are not responsible for their belongings. In fact, they are not responsible at all, losing them, leaving them in the hallways and change rooms unattended, dropping them. They will never entirely understand the value and responsibility that is put forth for them to have that phone. However, they would understand if the phone was bought with their own money. This leads to why students should be paid for having good grades in school. Students should be paid for good grades due to these three reasons: it encourages students to work harder, it will help expand and grow the economy and finally, they will understand the importance of responsibility.
Dyson contends that there is an unequal access to computers because the computer and software industries are being forced to “upgrade their products constantly and new products remain out of the reach of the poor.” (Dyson, 1997) Barbour’s article simply states, “once we allow technology to define the good life, we have excluded many important human values from consideration.” (Barbour, 1993)
Net neutrality was the big talk towards the end of 2017. Taking away net neutrality would cause chaos in my opinion. Making schools and other organizations pay to use technology only discourages them from doing so which is a major step backwards in such a technological point in time. The world is constantly creating new ways to implement technology to our everyday lives and charging us to do so is not a step in the right direction. Saying that getting rid of net neutrality will do away with discrimination is absurd. Discrimination was around way before the internet was but instead we once again have one political party trying to undermine the other by playing the victim. I do agree that it isn’t right that such huge corporations such as
"The government should not be in charge of the internet. The reason why that the government should not be in charge of our network is because, if the government would be in charge of our network it would not be fair for some people because the government would say everybody has to pay more money and would have to pay more in taxes. Net neutrality is the principle that internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites. Instead of trying to regulate the Internet, these rules should be repealed in order to promote competition and innovation in the broadband market, which will result in more choices and better products for Americans at lower prices. Example when there is a big family and they use netflix, youtube, and hulu a lot and then there is one person that lives by him/her selves lives and don’t use those websites that much the government would make the one person pay as much as the big family would.
When students get paid for grades it puts more pressure on them. The students may feel pressured by parents or even students around them. "Many teachers also say paying students for
11.8 million British users (The Guardian 2011) go online, whether at home, work or elsewhere. There are different types of Internet use, including non-interpersonal communication use (e.g., entertainment) and interpersonal communication use (e.g., email and social media use). Of those Internet users, the average user spends 13 hours per week online. Of these 13 hours, the average user around the world spent more than five and a half hours on social networks in December 2009, up 200 percent from the same month in 2008.
Internet is a big problem in our society today. Many people use internet without knowing it, even I use internet without knowing that I am using too much I consider myself as an addict because I check my Facebook at least 3 times a day and text every time while I eat too. In high school, I used to use my phone in the class because it was allowed in class and teacher didn’t mind but in college I have to tell myself to not use phone in class since it is very important to achieve my goals and get a degree.
Net Neutrality is the principle that states and prohibits internet companies from slowing down, speeding up, and blocking internet content that you want to use. Net neutrality is the way the internet has always been used and it allows individuals to communicate freely and protects our freedom of speech. It also means that the ISPs or internet service provider should provide us with open networks and should not discriminated over certain applications or content. The internet should stay the same because ISPs should not dictate what an individual views or posts. The internet should stay neutral because it gives us freedom to view at anything we want, it allows people to innovate, it stops internet providers from raising prices on services, and it monitors illegal activity.
Violent websites or videos that are posted to the internet are becoming more popular and aggressive. In the past 12 months 5% of youth, 10-15 years of age, have reported engaging in seriously violent behavior such as aggravated and sexual assault, and 38% reported exposure to violence online and off-line were associated with violent crimes. (Ybarra 929) Tested websites included news related websites that showed terrorism, war, and death. As a teenage female living in a virtual world, I know for a fact that anyone has access to view pornography or violence at the click of their finger. Even relaxing on social media websites have become a danger to the minds of youth from all the inappropriate ads that pop up to the side. I believe the government should restrict internet content because child pornography, hate speech, and websites inciting violence are all readily accessible to Americans.
The internet as we all know is probably the most useful resource known to man in this day of age. Not only is the internet easy to access its easy to use. Nearly everyone owns a computer and nearly all of which have access to the internet. But isn't that a good thing? Millions of people having the ability to access and share all the information anybody could ever want.
The Earth is over 4.5 billion years old and I have somehow managed to be alive at the same time as the world's greatest creation, wireless internet connection. There are several important inventions such as the automobile, the compass, and the light bulb, but I think we can all agree we would all give up transportation, a sense of direction, and even good eyesight if it meant we could keep our internet router. You will often hear older generations hollering about how technology has ruined the world and we’re all going to die because of Twitter; however this anger only stems from the fact that they don’t know how to turn on an iPhone. All jokes aside, I firmly believe that the internet is the most critical element in becoming a successful, intelligent, well informed, and productive member of society. Cue the disapproving murmuring from the elderly folk who think I’m just a
Users are then directly joined to other computer users at their own will for a small connection fee per month. The connection conveniently includes unlimited access to over a million web sites twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. There are many reasons why the Internet is important, these reasons include: The net adapts to damage and error, data travels at 2/3 the speed of light on copper and fiber, the internet provides the same functionality to everyone, the net is the fastest growing technology ever, the net promotes freedom of speech, the net is digital, and can correct errors. Connecting to the Internet cost the taxpayer little or nothing, since each node was independent, and had to handle its own financing and its own technical requirements. . It is faster than cellular phones and faster than fax machines.
As a college student, I find that I am constantly on the internet, whether it is for school or my own personal entertainment. Most of the times that I am on the computer, I am doing something for
Everything revolves around the internet these days. Every business, big or small has a internet website for you to visit. Let’s face it, the internet is not going away, we as a people must learn to use this tool and not think of it as a negative thing. The internet must be used positively to benefit us. We can find anything we want through the internet. The internet can be abused but we must educate our children so they can use it effectively to their advantage. We definitely need to make most schools have the internet in classrooms, there is no doubt about it.
