… Today i am going to tell you why i think that you need to work on things you've already mastered in order to grow. The first reason is when you were little and learning things and you didn't do great at them you kept working on it. The second is when you go out to school or other everyday places and you cannot do something you keep trying at it. Finally, the third reason is you can become a better person the more that you grow. I agree with Emerson's statement that “Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.” … First of all, I agree with Emerson because when you’re at home as a child you don't just give up on things. When you’re learning to walk you continue to until you’ve mastered it and you don't give up. After you learn to walk as a child you continue to grow and improve by continuing to walk. After you’ve finally mastered walking you improve to running. Even after you’ve mastered running you continue to improve. Also, when you begin to ride a bike you start off riding a tricycle. After you have mastered a tricycle you then move up to a bike with two wheels. If you didn't keep trying then you wouldn't have ever bettered yourself by learning a new task. …show more content…
You begin to learn and even if you have trouble then you keep trying. For instance, if are learning a different language you don't just stop once you have learned it you keep at it until you become a fluent speaker or reader in the language. Another example, would be when you’re making friends you don't just stop if you upset one friend, you keep trying until you are okay with the person you upset. You also don't only have one friend you usually get more than one friend. You keep at everything until you’ve grown and become better in the area that you want to become better
“There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs,” was said by motivational speaker and American author Zig Ziglar. This relates to Carol S. Dweck’s article “Brainology” and Sherman Alexie’s essay “Superman and Me.” Ziglar, Dweck, and Alexie all feel that it isn’t easy for someone to become successful. It takes hard work, perseverance, and the want to learn and grow. In Dweck’s article, she stated that someone with a growth mindset would become more successful and knowledgeable than someone with a fixed mindset, which was demonstrated by Alexie in his essay, and by a personal experience of my own.
This article help me learn that sometimes we have to challenges yourself with difficult task so our brain can get stronger and later on with a lot of practices can become really good at it. I would apply this to my future writing classes that I take or future assignments that involve writing because I would consider myself not so good at writing but if I practice it often I can become better at things that am not so good. I would tell them that everything we learn is essential our brain and mind when having the opportunity to used it we should take the opportunity to make our brain grow. Would tell them that no one is consider to be dumb we can all be smart but is just all on us if we want to use it and make your skills better by practicing it until you are a professional. This also make me rimmed myself of my brother in his situation, he recently got a new skateboard and at first, he didn’t know how to use it and I keep on telling him that if he practices a lot he would become a master at
By putting in the effort, you can be able to be successful within in the classroom and in any sport or elective that you may take part in. However , by limiting yourself to only what you have mastered will not allow you to grow as a person. As you mature you will realize that in order to become successful , sacrificing certain freedoms now will help you in the long run. Your objective should be to exceed others expectations of you.
Ralph Waldo Emerson’s purpose in his article is to persuade the reader that children should not be force fed knowledge but should instead simply be taught the tool with which to learn. He emphasizes that children should be taught to be inquisitive and to seek knowledge out of enthusiasm and curiosity. One thing Emerson does that is effective is he goes chronologically through a person's lifetime for the most part. A young child and works his way to a college student and then touches on the teacher himself or a grown man.
To continue on there are always two options, just give up or keep on pushing until the goal has been reached. The people that decide to just quit most likely have a fixed mindset, while the people that don’t give up have a growth mindset. Eduardo Briceno discusses that when obtaining a growth mindset, setbacks don’t take a toll on the person, they will continue to press on until the goal has been reached. Briceno’s point is that when you realize that anything is possible, then you bring yourself to new levels. Overall having a growth mindset allows people to complete any realistic goal that they
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
When you spend years doing anything, you build knowledge, skills, and awareness. Those are things that can never be taken away from you. That means that if you had to do it all over again, you could. In fact, you could do it faster and better the second time around. So, don 't view any effort you put forward as a waste of time. Everything you do has benefit, even if you have nothing to show for it in the end, you can still feel the growth that you have experienced inside.
and avoid the tasks which they don’t know. If we look at the other spectrum, the students who had a growth mindset, their motto is to learn at all cost.”
It is, according to Emerson, through the exercise of our own creative energies, that we discover who we are and what we can do, but we cannot know unless we trust these creative powers and put them to use.
“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle”. This is very true, and I believe that both Tom Sawyer, the main character in the novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and myself throughout 7th grade showed this. By not giving up Tom and myself achieved great growth. Growth between Tom and myself were quite similar. One example was how we both matured greatly.
After reading the article, “Brainology: Transforming Students’ Motivation to Learn” by Carol S. Dweck, I concluded that I have a growth mindset. Dwecks’ research shows “… students with this growth mindset believe that intelligence is a potential that can be realized through learning” (Dweck 1). I believe it’s okay to fail, as long as you keep giving it a shot, you’ll reach what you’re trying to achieve. I always think that no matter what the outcome you expect will be, as long as, “-the
Some dogs famished with hunger, and saw a number of cowhides steeping in a river. They agreed to drink up the river until they can reached the hides. Unfortunately, these dogs died, because they did not reach the hides. The author said that attempt not impossibilities. I don’t approve of this idea. I hold the view that we should attempt many new things just in case we succeed. Of course, I emphasize the attempt with clear and sufficient thinking. In our growing process, many new things and unpredictable challenges come into our life. The best way is to face with courage. After all, plight is more beneficial to us than favorable circumstance. If we attempt nothing, how can we discover our shining points? How can we grow up with gain? Experience ups and downs, and also searching; get busy life, more or less, lose dribs and drabs, important is attempt. There is no doubt that there exist many impossibilities in the world. However, some temporary impossibilities is likely to be changed into possibilities through our hard study and persistent tries. Meanwhile, without any attempt, it will be difficult for us to bear the life pressure. As the Shakespeare said, the sky has no trace of bird, but it have flown, the life has no joy of the success, but I have ever had. So I firmly believe that experiences are enough wonderful and precious. On the other hand, I refuse blind attempt, blindly chase something is
Soccer players need to practice kicking and head butting which can sometimes feel uncomfortable, but it increases your skills for the game. Sometimes stepping outside of your comfort zone really helps you because you feel more accomplished and can take on more trials with the new skills you have developed. Learning new things and increasing your skills helps you throughout life. Whether its at a new job, or at school, your skills are what help you stand out as a person. Emerson's quote is so true because we need to learn more and try new things that we haven't already mastered. Learning an instrument is a very good skill to have. Not only does it increase your skills, but it also requires you to step outside your comfort zone. When I was learning guitar, I would get so frustrated because I could not remember all the chords or move my fingers fast enough. But with a lot of practice and hard work, I finally learned it and can now play very well. This skill that I developed at a young age helped me be able to relate to many people and also made my family very happy. Discovering new talents is a wonderful thing, but you have to be willing to try and succeed even if it seems
Emerson’s point is that eventually through the progression in one’s education a person will come to realize that they are the only ones who can make themselves succeed or fall. I agree with Emerson on this respect because only you will get what you want by hard work and making your own success while not relying on others people to help you. As people we cannot live in the shadows of those who inspire us, eventually we have to move in our own direction and take charge of our own lives. Although we can be knowledgeable thinking that you know everything can be a huge downfall. A person might be in charge of their own life but it is never good to believe that you know more because we can all learn from each
Emerson disagrees with me he believes that everyone was born to do a certain job and what we will do in life is already predetermined. Emerson writes that "..in every million there will be an astronomer, a mathematician, a comic poet..." suggesting that there is no point in trying to better yourself because you were destined to be something and no matter what you do you cant escape your fate.
