What issues were helpful to learn about children’s learning?
The most helpful issues I learned about how different conditions affect student learning. Through my time at Goodhue, I was able to get a hands on experience working with children of different ethnic, social, family and financial backgrounds. Being able to see how different conditions affected learning was interesting because in most cases, those who came from more stable conditions performed better in the classroom. It was also helpful to learn about how students learn best. Some students learn better through hands on learning, others visual learning and some learn best from hearing things explained. At Goodhue, I was able to see how different students learn and how some students are more fast-paced learners and others need a more slow paced learning environment. This helped me to adapt my teaching style based on each student’s individual needs.

I am not only a teacher, I am their role model, their support system, their cheerleader, etc. As a teacher, I have the capacity to change a student’s life and allow them to succeed. Through Goodhue, I got a hands on experience working with students as a teacher figure. I learned the boundaries of teachers meaning how to form a personal relationship with the students without poking and prodding for information. I also learned the role I have as a teacher to each student’s parents. I learned this through watching the teachers and coordinators interact with the students.
