Trump and Racial Contract The world has been shaped to make European domination with racial contract. Racial contract is a set of formal or informal agreements between one subset of humans also known as a contract between whites. The purpose of the racial contract is a privileging of the whites as a group with respect to non whites as a group because they white supremacy. The agreement mostly concerns the third parties which are blacks. Yes I believe that what has happened with america electing trump can be explained in terms of racial contract. “Make America Great Again” is supported by many ultra conservative individuals and groups such as Klu Klux Klan (KKK) which is a past and present movement that was founded in 1866. “According …show more content…
He was sued twice for racial discrimination because he did not want to let African americans rent an apartment from his company. Another example that shows trumps racism against black people is an incident happened this November at the campaign rally in Alabama a trump supporter begins kicking an African american that was chanting “black lives matter” while he was already on the floor. The next day after that horrible incident trump speaks about the incident and says“Maybe [the protester] should have been roughed up,” he mused. “It was absolutely disgusting what he was doing.” These are just two out of a lot of different reasons people believe he’s a racist. Trump supporters have been acting out after the election doing and saying racist things to non-whites. For example, “When the rector at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Silver Spring, Maryland opened the church on Sunday morning, he found that a sign advertising Spanish services had been ripped and vandalized with the words, “TRUMP NATION WHITES ONLY.” The same message was written on a brick wall near the church’s memorial garden”. This the action of the trump supporters …show more content…
Whites consistently do wrong and disrespectful things to us non-whites but they do not think it is wrong. They believe they are doing what 's right because Donald Trump foolishness by showing racist actions and saying this will make America great again. The racial contract creates a racialized moral psychology which means the form of racialism is mentally correct or right. This is the reason “ Make America Great Again” is supported by many ultra conservative individuals and groups because the feel that the this horrible things are the correct way to “Make America Great
In America, whites have always been treated better than blacks. Going back to those rough times
Tim Wise’s book White Like Me provides a picture of what it is like to be white in America. A main topic covered in White Like Me is white privilege. On pages 24 and 25 Wise illustrates what white privilege is and shares his opinion regarding how to address white privilege in society today. Wise’s plan for addressing white privilege is one not of guilt, but of responsibility, a difference Wise highlights. The concept of feeling guilty for white privilege lacks reason because white privilege is something built up through generations and its existence is not of any one person’s fault. Guilt would just be detrimental to the possibility of making progress in this field. Responsibility, on the other hand, is a perfectly logical action to take when
Feagin’s “White Racial Frame” states that the majority of whites are “willfully ignorant or misinformed” about the circumstances people of color face in today’s society (Feagin3). “The White Racial Frame” that Feagin presents is “an overarching white worldview that encompasses a broad and persisting set of racial stereotypes, prejudices, ideologies, images, interpretations and narratives, emotions and reactions to language accents as well as racialized inclinations to discriminate” (Feagin3). It all started with the first contact of Europeans and the Western Hemisphere. In the European colonialism,
...If we learn anything for the White Man, we could at least learn about how he treats his own kind.
In her 16 January 2016 The Washington Post editorial, “What is White Privilege?”, Christine Emba asserts white privilege is a societal advantage inherent in people who are white, irrespective of their “wealth, gender, or other factors.” According to Emba, white privilege makes life smoother and is an entity that is hidden or unknown until the privilege is taken away. Although racism is still a rampant issue in society today, white privilege is a concept created by the progressive left in order to brand whites as a scapegoat for issues and adversities that non-whites face. This concept of privilege ultimately causes further dissension between whites and non-whites.
Next, Institutional or systemic racism refers to the laws, policies, practices, rules and procedures that operate within organisations, societal structures and the broader community to the advantage of the dominant group or groups and to the detriment and disadvantage of other groups. Institutional racism may be intentional or unintentional. Jim Crowe is a great example of institutional racism. Jim Crow laws were the name of the racist caste system put in place to segregate African Americans, Hispanics and any ethnic minority. Theses laws made it so non whites could not integrate with minorities. These laws applied to hospitals, buses, toilets and drinking fountains and restaurants. For example Buses: All passenger stations in this state operated
Actually, many whites do not support racist beliefs, actions, or policies; however, they do not want to risk breaking bonds with other whites, so they simply remain silent.
Do to the Whites belief that they were superior to the African-American it is only natural that their treatment of the African-Americans matched their distaste of them. Even though the KKK’s oath...
In the past, it is true that African American have suffered injustice, however, today there are still some wounds that needs healing from harsh treatment blacks people experience from whites people back during the civil right movement. Now, some whites are in positions where they are able to use their authority and demand unnecessary respect from minorities in certain situations, just so they could be in control. “In any case, white people, who had robbed black people of their liberty and who profited by this theft every hour that they lived, had no moral ground on which to stand” (Baldwin, 2000, p31). For instance, threatening to fire or suspend someone for not allowing them to be in control is the same attitude people had back then. Because of this, some blacks feel that they need to respond in any way possible to make their point. In other words, the attitude that some blacks have express at some point could be aggressive at time.
After the Civil War ended in 1865, a big question was left: what does the future look like for freed slaves in America? For so long - 246 years, since the first African slave arrived in Virginia in 1619 - Southern African Americans were forced into slavery. However, in 1856, as a result of the Union’s win in the American Civil War and the determination of many, they were finally free - at least legally. The Civil War left a big dent on the South and tension was rising between whites and blacks. In the meantime, African Americans needed help, or else they would fall into the trenches of the American society once again. This was a time of crucial social change for Southern blacks, and the effects of Reconstruction on white and black race relations in America are still apparent and alive today.
Many white Americans are living with the fear that they didn't really deserve their success, and that maybe luck and privilege had more to do with it, than brains and hard work. There are numerous reasons for the widespread discrimination at all levels, but the main reason for the existence of discrimination is a privilege to certain groups of people, and widespread social prejudice towards certain groups of people. Differences between people have always existed, but they gain in importance only when are different importance given to certain differences, so it creates privileges. People who are privileged in one society are often not aware of their privilege. It is very easy to be oblivious to the privilege. The problem of discrimination is very complex and there is no unique formula that would solve it. There are general patterns in a white supremacist culture, that all white people have privilege, whether or not they are racist themselves.
Race has been one of the most outstanding situations in the United States all the way from the 1500s up until now. The concept of race has been socially constructed in a way that is broad and difficult to understand. Social construction can be defined as the set of rules are determined by society’s urges and trends. The rules created by society play a huge role in racialization, as the U.S. creates laws to separate the English or whites from the nonwhites. Europeans, Indigenous People, and Africans were all racialized and victimized due to various reasons. Both the Europeans and Indigenous People were treated differently than African American slaves since they had slightly more freedom and rights, but in many ways they are also treated the same. The social construction of race between the Europeans, Indigenous People, and Africans led to the establishment of how one group is different from the other.
The KKK was once an African American hate group in the late 1800’s, created by Confederate generals who wanted to continue suppressing their former slaves with terror. It was shut down after their leaders were plagued with scandals, and their business dealings put out into the open, for all to see and read. People finally understood what the Klan was about and obviously did not want it. Although in 1915, William J. Simmons watched D.W. Griffith’s “Birth of a Nation” which depicted the story of what happened after the Civil War, through the eyes of a glorified Klansman. He was stargazed at how Griffith depicted the Klan, and as him being a long time joiner of clubs, he decided to bring back the Ku Klux Klan. A surprising fact is how a man like this could lead a group of hate, as he used to be a minister. (“Ku Klux Klan -- Extremism in America”) This second generation of the Klan created almost an “Invisible Empire” by their high point. Their members were scattered across state and federal government, and one could say that they “co...
It appear that we have been investigating the cause and effects of race and racism for quick some time, as middle age adult in the year 2015, I feel that we have run into a brick wall which seems too hard to break though, to wide to get around and runs to deep to get under.
White supremacy has influenced many people to believe that they should politically, economically, and socially rule non-white people. The Naturalization Act of 1790 limited U.S. citizenship to whites only. The formation of the Confederate States of America from 1861 to 1865 happened because they were in favor for the expansion of slavery. The illustration of the old white male promotes the ideals of slavery by his placement in the advertisement and he knows his importance of where he is in society. The white old man knows his significance in society that he superior over any race. The only way to make the world better is to have ownership over black savages (slaves). The ideals of slavery continued into 1954–68 where racial segregation and discrimination happen against African American’s. White people did not want African American’s to have the same basic rights as them because they would lose some superiority over them. Donald Trump is most recent example of exemplifying the white old man in the advertisement and supporting ideals of white supremacy. Trump defends his remarks calling immigrants ‘rapists’ and showing people during his presidential campaign his xenophobia ideals. He believes in order to make America great again is to get rid of all the
