In a school-based experience, Crab Mentality can trigger bullying. It is said that one of the specific reasons for bullying is because of jealousy (childhealing.com). The problem with this is that jealousy can come from a whole wavelength of factors. It may be from a child’s intelligence, strong moral code, creativity and artistic gifts, or his/her athletic abilities. Because of the jealousy of the bully, he/she will resort to bullying, so that he/she to make himself/herself higher than the victim.
An example of a jealousy based bullying can be found in the Rich and Lance situation. Rich has mentioned that he has heard of rumors, from his friends, on the possible reasons why Lance bullied Rich for a long period of time. The reasons were because …show more content…

“Smart Shaming is the act of shaming others for being smarter than the rest.” (smartshaming.blogspot.com). A sample situation where smart shaming is emphasized is when someone tries to spread knowledge to others by correcting their mistakes, and they would say words such as “Edi Wow.”, “Ikaw Na.”, and “ Ako na ang hindi marunong.”. This is a huge problem in the Philippines, because Filipinos with higher intellectual capacities would just hide their natural ability, so that they would not get smart-shamed (smartshaming.blogspot.com). Euphemism is the art of stating the unpleasant truth or opinion in as pleasant a manner as possible (Understanding the Filipino 76). The general aim is to please people, since the Filipinos are more sensitive than Westerners (Understanding the Filipino Seaman 12). In a school-based context, we go back to the Rich and Lance drama. There was this one time the when Rich wanted to tell the guidance counselor about the school bullying that is happening to him but he could not. Therefore, he went to Steve, his friend, to discuss the current situation he is in, and Rich asked him to tell the guidance counselor instead. At first, Steve was interested to stop the bullying from happening. He was taking notes about the situations where Lance was trying to oppress Rich, but when he asked for the bully’s name, he showed this face of shock and fear.
Then, he tried to dismiss the conversation immediately by going out of the topic such as talking to Rich about girls instead of the bullying instances that occurred.
