Maintaining ethical conduct in Public Administration involves an individual knowing their boundaries and the level of expectations when it comes to serving the public or what we call “serving the people”. There are things such as ethics, ethical codes and principals one has to get to know and understand. An individual or a public servant is to be accountable as well and understand what is meant by accountability.
When an individual is said to be looking at ethics, we mean that the behaviour or actions of an individual should be of those acceptable to the society and most of the time societies concentrate on good morals and values of an individual (Business Dictionary, 2015. Then there are three principals of accountability which I am to look at, which are fallacy, assumption and trust. Fallacy, is when people fall pray into fallacy accountability, meaning they not only assume others are flawed, but that they can do nothing to change those flaws except to punish people when they make mistakes or failure to deliver (partners in leadership, 2009. Accountability). Then there is accountability assumption which speaks of an individual assuming that their partners or people in general are doing their level best to fulfil their expectations. And lastly there is accountability trust, and this involves an individual looking at oneself and hold his/herself accountable when things go wrong, there must be something that “I” as an individual am doing wrong.
There is then what we call Public Accountability and according to M. Bovines public accountability is the distinctive feature of modern democratic governance, therefore democracy remains a paper procedure if those in power cannot be held accountable in public for their acts and omission, for their decisions, their policies and their expectations. Accountable and transparent to the public it is serving is a key feature of a public manager. These two concepts greatly measures the effectiveness of government. Being accountable simply implies being answerable to your actions as a public servant. Transparent on the other hand clearly implies the act of being open to the people. Organizations should abide by law and directives issued by government. This provides accounts of their compliance (Rainey, p 105). Accountability is one the most important aspects in the military and civilian life style. Holding Marines accountable for their actions and having every Marine and piece of gear assigned to you accounted for is required at all times. It ensures the safety and stability of all the Marines.
Through a foundation of strong public organizations, government can aspire to fulfill societal demands. However, the strength of any organization is dependent on the strength and capabilities of a leader. With a consideration of increasing demands of a more effective and efficient government, accountability is distributed through foundational ethics and ideologies of individual administrators including leaders. This moralistic accountability can be understood through various, differing lenses—and each leader is different in emphasizing each perspective.
Accountability defined as the responsibility of an individual in a position of an employee or student. In this section, I am going further to mention some situations and how does this situation demonstrate the responsibility that reflected from the dimensions of my personality, including conditions from communication, diversity awareness, decision-making and problem solving. First am going to point at some of my situation that I experienced as a student and then build it up to the situation that I faced in the work placement program as an employee.
