On Thursday, October 26th, 2017 Vince Nicastro, Deputy Commissioner and COO of the Big East Conference, spoke in front of many Sports Management students in regards to his journey in being successful. As a young student, he was unsure what he wanted as his career path, however, knew he wanted to eventually get into the sports industry, especially in intercollegiate athletics. After getting his Graduate Degree in Sports Management, he was an intern for Minor League Baseball in Williamsport, PA and knew that this internship would help lead him into the sports industry by seeing his dreams come to life. In the Big East Conference, he oversees how student athletes develop and hope that they still can achieve uttermost success by reaching their potential with their academics on and off the court. In addition, the Big East Conference handles issues such as misconduct, since other teams use recruting to cut corners and it is in his duty to make it an even playing field across all Big East Conference teams. With student athletes, they face concussions, mental health issues, and they do not receive enough sleep, so he takes their health and safety as one of his priorities, so they can perform to the best of their abilities and keep up with their academic studies along the way. For future Sport Management leaders, he says that having great work ethics, integrity, and doing the right thing will allow one to becoming successful in sports. …show more content…

Overall, he says that he was lucky to where he stands today, since he took some risks, however, hopes to inspire future Sport Management leaders by having other people mentor you and wants all Sport Management students to travel into the sports industry with an open-mind, considering that, one does not know where their job will lead them
