ASSESSMENT TASK
Question 4
Time management is an important part of managing any business and even more so within the events and hospitality industry, although it could be said one cannot actually manage time but rather manage themselves and those around them. Whichever way you are looking at time management it is one of the most important aspects of being a successful manager, as it requires any person to make the most of the time available to them for any given task.
When speaking about time management Gerald M Blair states that ‘personal time management is about controlling the use of your most valuable (and undervalued) resource’, and it is from this statement that he believes that successful time management is about ‘winning’ the “Eff” words, these being Effective, Efficient and Effortless. Blair deems that by being Effective it means that any task being worked on has a definite or desired effect, Efficient means that when completing a task it is done in manner considered productive and with minimum waste or effort. Finally a task should be Effortless meaning that it should seem to be completed without effort and seem natural, by basing time management skills on these three definitions it should lead to the best use of any persons time when completing any task.
In day to day life there are many tasks that form part of a persons routine from cooking and cleaning at home to meetings and training at work, it is when attempting to complete such tasks that the biggest threat to time management come to fruition in the form of procrastination. It is through procrastination that a person can tend to allow themselves to be distracted by trivial or mundane issues and tasks that in turn allow them to overlook the tasks that are actually ...

...elieve that I will free up time for Amanda to focus on her duties whilst allowing the team members to know exactly where they stand and what their responsibilities are. After this has been done I believe that there needs to be defined procedures in place regarding any potential conflict that may arise between individuals including any needed grievance process, such as the breakdown of communication seen between Amanda and Joanne.
As previously stated I believe that some of the issues that are seen throughout the case study were inherited by Amanda when she took over from Pamela, but that if Amanda had shown assertive leadership and time management skills that many of the issues that arose may not have happened in the first instance or at the very least have been handled in a much better manner and thus reducing the stress that is currently seen throughout the team.
