Task of Public Policy School shootings have been a prevalent problem in today’s society, especially within the last decade. There have been 20 school shootings so far in 2018 and it feels like there is another every other week. An idea has been floating around for a few years now, and that is to arm teachers with weapons, preferably guns, in hopes to curtail the violence and mass shootings on school campuses. There is an array of other ways to curtail mass shootings in schools and screen who enters the school. Policy makers should improve their stand on gun control, so congress should adopt a policy which will prohibit the recreational purchase of assault rifles, semi-automatic guns and clips that hold more than 16 bullets. This will limit the amount of school shootings and prevent the fear and possible harm that could be brought upon the children. Problem Statement …show more content…

It is illogical to assume that inserting more guns into a situation in which no guns should be the standard will solve all of our problems. It is unethical to trust human beings with tools wielding the power to take lives in a place that should be inherently free from violence. I do not believe that our teachers want to do our students harm, but I do consider them fallible, as all would be people in that situation. The co8nsequences of mistakes made by school teachers with guns are too steep to be ignored, and their margin for abuse is simply too great. For instance, a crowded hallway full of kids stampeding away from a deranged student or even an outsider with an automatic. A teacher takes aim at the assailant. Do we really want to place our faith in the accuracy of a bullet fired by a non-professional and risk even further trauma? Realistically, that scenario is at best a stalemate. We simply cannot use guns too eliminate the use of guns in a certain place; that idea is very counter-productive and
