Personality Testing Evaluation The world we live in is full of interesting and diverse people with lots of differing personalities. We are all different for good reasons and the differences shape who we are as individuals. Personality testing has always been particularly interesting to me, because I appreciate the explanation for the reasons we act the way we do. I found several interesting facts about myself through the personality testing offered in the Jung Typology Test. In this essay, I will discuss my results from the test along with analysis and my evaluation based on the scores I received. I logically try to process all my thoughts and balance my decisions based on both, my score suggests that. I try to leave my emotions out of my decisions and stick with what I know or think that I know. I also heavily believe that many decisions become situation specific and may warrant different processes. My score represents room to balance off one or the other and still have an equal balance. I do appreciate the explanations the test had to offer and this part of the explanation really stood out to me, “INTJs are known as the "Systems Builders" of the types, perhaps in part because they possess the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability” (Butt & Heiss, n.d.). I have always had the ability to critically think in high-stress situations and I am usually strong with tough situations. Having completed the Myers-Briggs Personality Test previously, I was identified as an INTP, which stands for introverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. Accordingly, this personality is often labeled as “The Architect” or “The Logician.” Despite my previous results, I repeated the test as instructed in the assignment. The JTT states that I focus internally on myself; I take emotions, feeling, etc. in via my five senses in a literal concrete fashion. The test indicates that I have this overwhelming “need to be needed” which I do not feel is the case. I am happy to do my daily routine without and sort of interruptions. The test does state that people with my type of personality are "unappreciated at work, home and play. Ironically because they prove over and over that they can be relied on for loyalty and I'm unstinting high-quality work, which people often take us for granted" (Myers, 2013). When reflecting on my own life the quote from Myers (2013) for the most part is correct. I have had many issues at work with doing my job above and beyond satisfaction of my employer, but it has often been other people who take the credit for what has been done. Before taking the Myers-Briggs Interactive Test, I didn’t really know what to expect or what kind of questions I would be answering in order to determine what my personality type would be. Afterwards however, I wasn’t too surprised with my results of the test. Out of the sixteen different personality types, I got the INFJ personality type which simply means dominant introverted intuition. All of those letters were pretty self-explanatory and accurate according to how my temperament and personality are. The statistical conclusion was 67% introvert (I), 38% intuitive (N), 50% feeling (F), and 56% judging (J). Therefore I had a distinctive preference of introversion over extraversion, a moderate preference of intuition over sensing, a moderate preference of feeling over thinking, and a moderate preference of judging over perceiving.
The development of personality has long been an area of extreme interest to psychologists and psychoanalysts alike, and many different theories of personality have developed over the years.
