Introduction The topic of industrial health and safety is considered one of the topics that received attention by many researchers and scholars. In this chapter the researcher will highlight many of the studies conducted on this topic. The titles that will be addressed are: The concept of industrial health and safety, importance of industrial health and safety, Occupational health and safety in Palestinian industrial plants (Barriers, awareness and responsibility), the credibility of insurance and work injury compensation in Palestine, the impact of occupational safety and security on the job satisfaction and productivity, the impact of gender, years of experience, educational level, working hours and training on occupational safety and security and ways and plans to improve Occupational safety and security in Palestine. Research questions are: 1- Are Palestinian industries managing safety conditions effectively (doing the right things)? 2- Are employees satisfied of safety and security conditions at the Palestinian industries? 3- What are the major weaknesses in the safety and security conditions? 4- What can be done to improve safety conditions in the various Palestinian industries? 2.1 The concept of industrial health and safety. Industrial health and safety has been defined by many researchers and it varies from one researcher to another as follows: Industrial safety and security is to provide protection for workers from dangers and injuries at work and reduce the risk of machinery, equipment and materials used and their negative effect on workers health so as to prevent accidents and occupational diseases in the workplace, in order to help workers to work in relief and safety. Conclusion In conclusion Occupational safety and security is an important issue that should be considered because understanding what contributes to an organization’s success can be challenging, but it all starts with the employees; the effectiveness of any industrial enterprise lies in establishing occupational health and safety measures. Employers should report work incidents and injuries regularly, and they must be punished if they don’t, in order to help in the developing of the industrial sector in Palestine. This starts from government agencies’ and employers’ cooperation and coordination, and eventually the need to form trade unions to defense and call for the rights of workers.

Canadian health and safety legislation require companies and organizations to make a commitment towards occupational health and safety. Maintaining a safe workplace environment has numerous benefits. A safe work environment can boost employee morale, increase productivity and improve job satisfaction. For companies and organizations these benefits can lead to less turnover and increased employee retention. They can also reduce absenteeism while improving the culture and image of a company or organization. Most importantly, increased safety in the workplace can lead to fewer workplace injuries and causalities. Workplace health and safety issues are different today than there were at various points of time in Canadian history.

There is 9 classes of hazardous material are known in the United Nation. The solid hazardous material can cause hazard to human by contacting or by dust form so the human will inhale it. The liquid hazardous material can cause hazard to human by flowing into draining system and waterways so it will affect the person by the drinking water and it will also affect the wildlife. There is 2 main ways that hazardous material can get in human body and cause harm, one of them is inhalation so it will damage the lungs and respiratory system, and also ingestion so the material will enter the body with the food or water and it will damage the digestive system.
Employee rights are very important in the workplace (Rakoczy, C. n.d.). There are some laws to protect employee rights, such as safe working environment, discrimination and overtime pay rates, to ensure every employee is treated fairly. All employees have the right to work in a safe and healthy workplace. In some industries, they use the high-voltage of electricity, extreme temperature, the high-speed and noisy machines in their workplace which can potentially threaten employee health and safety. A safe and healthy workplace must provide a reasonable daily and weekly job schedule to the employees.
Accidents occur in the workplace but in secret. These most of the time lead to physical and mental injuries that might affect the worker way of living for the rest of their lives. It is estimated that more than 337 million workers get injured in their place of work or in the course of work every year leading to work-related diseases causing about 2.3 million deaths per year (United States Department of Labor, n.d.).
In the early 1900s industrial accidents were commonplace in this country; for example, in 1907 over 3,200 people were killed in mining accidents. At this time legislation and public opinion all favored management. There were few protections for the worker's safety. Today's industrial employees are better off than their colleagues in the past. Their chances of being killed in an industrial accident are less than half of that of their predecessors of 60 years ago. According to National safety Council (NSC), the current death rate from work-related injuries is approximately 4 per 100,000, or less than a third of the rate of 50 years ago. Improvements in safety up to now have been the result of pressure for legislation to promote health and safety, the steadily increasing cost associated with accidents and injuries, and the professionalization of safety as an occupation. When the industrial sector began to grow in the United States, hazardous working conditions were commonplace. Following the Civil War, the seeds of the safety movement were sown in this country. Factory inspection was introduced in Massachusetts in 1867. In 1868 the first barrier safeguard was patented. In 1869 the Pennsylvania legislature passed a mine safety law requiring two exits from all mines. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) was established in 1869 to study industrial accidents and report pertinent information about hose accidents. The following decade saw little progress in the safety movement until 1877, when the Massachusetts legislature passed a law requiring safeguards for hazardous machinery. In 1877 the Employers' Liability Law was passed. In 1892, the first safety program was established in a steel plant in Illinois, in response to the explosion of a flywheel in that company.
