All in all, if there was no social media today, I don't know what the world would be like. We are in it every day, everybody is involved in some way or in another, and I think it is something people have to deal with even if they don't like it. In my humble opinion, social media is good to a certain extent, as long as there is a limit to everything. In another way, with every piece of entertainment, there is always a point where it can go wrong. However, it simply puts the responsibility back to the user who should use it carefully. So please, limit it!
Social media has grown a lot over the past years in the way it allows us to be able to communicate with others around the world. According to Andrew Keen “On today’s internet everything we do–from our use of ecommerce, location services and email to online search, advertising and entertainment—is increasingly open and transparent.” Due to social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc. we are allowed to access different kind of information from friends and families lives and what is going on around them. In the article “Sharing is a Trap” Andrew Keen argues towards the negative side of social media and makes good points to back up his argument. Jeff Jarvis in the article “Get over it” argues more towards the positive outcome that can come from
Social media supplies many advantages throughout our daily lives. For instance, on page 12, author Kristian Lewis says,” You can send your best friend a good-luck snap before his basketball game, watch your baby cousin grow up on Instagram, and share YouTube videos of your new kitten.” Another example, is that you can see what is happening in the real world.

However, with the evidence that the counter claim made was precise, it has not changed my mind. I maintain my claim that social networking sites have a positive impact on our society, because I feel that the counter claim is not strong enough to change my mind. I feel that social networking sites have a more positive impact on our society than negative. Therefore, I recommend that social networking sites be established. So when these sites are up and running, we can have more ways to interact with our society on a positive level.
At the end of the day, social media has both a negative and a positive effect on society. It is influential and plays a part in most people’s lives. Whether individuals see social media as positive or negative is down to the individual; some would say though that if the effect on society was mainly negative, why would so many people use social media and why would its popularity and use be growing?
Just a few years ago, many people didn’t use Facebook to share their pictures or statuses, but now, there are over 600 million users on Facebook worldwide.
