Fabrics
Fabrics can be made of natural and synthetic materials. Natural fabrics, like cotton (NY Fashion Center) for example, are found here on earth while synthetic fabrics are manmade (MV Styles). There are many distinguish ways to determine if a fabric is natural or synthetic. Each fabric is different in its own way due to it reaction to heat, its odor, residue and chemicals (MV Styles). Fabrics are seen and used every day and in every way. Synthetic material has been pushed more into the picture because it much easier to make and the cheapest to buy. Synthetic materials are sometimes made form fossil fuels like coal. Cotton and Broadcloth are natural fabrics; Polyester is synthetic and Flannel in a synthetic blend with cotton. Fabrics are made up of fibers which have their own chemical structure, which determines their classification. Polymers make up the fibers (Ball-Deslich and Funkhouser). Since cotton is natural, it comes from a natural cellulose fiber with the polymer of glucose (Cotton). Polyester is synthetic which can be classified as saturated or u...
The. Although viscose rayon was originally called “artificial silk,” it is not truly synthetic. fiber, as it is made from wood pulp, a naturally occurring, cellulose-based material. Nylon however, is a synthetic fiber. It is a polyamide whose molecular chains are formed regularly.
On the twenty-first of August, our Wearable History class took a trip to downtown Bowling Green, to visit Mosaic Confinement Studio. The studio had an old-fashioned vibe, and was like a vintage-garment haven. There, we were asked to choose a piece that we thought was vintage, identify the time period it actually came from, and also take some additional notes on the style and the garment’s details. After searching through multiple racks, the first piece I found was a lace blazer. It turned out to only be vintage-inspired, so I went searching again. I came across a few other pieces, but nothing was really jumping out at me. Eventually, I came across a lavender dress that immediately made me think of Julia Roberts in “Mystic Pizza”, and I knew I found my garment.
School is something we all know and understand. Regardless of whether we wanted it or not, we have all passed through school. School is, first and foremost, a place designed for people to go and learn. It is a place to better yourself, to learn facts, discipline, to learn social and economic skills. But for all that school is intended for, people go for different reasons. Some are hardworking and academically minded, they go to learn, to set a good foundation for their future, with an aim of becoming successful and accomplished in their career. Others are carefree, going for the social side, to be popular, have lots of friends, and in the end just to have a good time. For others it can even be a place of safety, a place where they can get
I have chosen to do my essay on the largest organ of the body, skin. It has several functions vital to the survival of the body as I will discuss in the following paragraphs.
The Paracas’ textiles specify the beliefs of the South American people through the woven representation of gods and other creatures. There are textiles depicting entities like the typical Eye god and shamanic/composite animals. These figures have most likely been deemed spiritual because a number of these textile were found wrapped around dead bodies, so they must have had some purpose in the afterlife
Dress code, probably one of the most talked about topics by teenagers. Most teenagers believe that dress code is “witless” or “incompetent”. Why do we think this? Well, most adults believe that keeping a strict dress code keeps us educated because apparently our clothes are “distracting”. Now I can see how wearing booty shorts and a tank top would be distracting, but how is wearing sweatpants distracting? If anything wearing sweatpants keeps us comfortable, because I know that being uncomfortable is way more distracting than wearing sweatpants. When I wear sweatpants I can lay back and relax while the teacher talks, but if I am uncomfortable I am more likely to move around and fidget with my clothes rather than listen to the lesson.
Compare the surface appearance of fabrics made of carded yarns vs. fabrics made of combed yarns:
The applications of natural fibers in composite are also spreading widely in many sectors such as automobiles, packing ,construction furniture and sports. This is mainly due to the advantages of natural fibre over synthetic such as low cost, low density, less damage to processing equipment, good relative mechanical properties, renewablility, biodegradability. Natural fibers were also introduced with the intention of reducing wieght of composites, showing a tendency to replace the existing glass fiber reinforced polymer composites .
It is true that jackets are very essential to protect everyone from the extreme cold weather. If a jacket is a necessity in anyone's wardrobe, it means this outfit turns out to be the must-have collection with the everlasting demand. Such phenomenon has urged lots of business owners to try selling women's jackets in various sizes and prices. But, they might not realize that plus size jackets are more demanding. As the world revolves, there are a lot of changes that happens in the world. For example, in terms of technology, there are a lot of improvements already. Back then, for example, features of mobile phones were only call and text. But more ideas have been developed and people have started to think about how to improve some things so that they can attract more consumers. The result is there are now more, in this case, high-tech phones with carious incredible features such as access to social media, hi-quality camera’s ability to upload to and download from the Internet, e-readers, and video calls for quicker and easier communication.
Silk, sometimes affectionately referred to as the “queen of fibers,” is the strongest natural fiber in the world, and it is used to make expensive cloth. There’s more to silk, though, than being great to make fine garments. Did you know that a thread of silk can be stronger than some kinds of steel? Probably not. We hope to give you more insight into the wonders of silk in our report.
Ever since man has slept, he has looked for someplace to put his dreary head, whether that be a rock, memory form, or feathers they all perfectly accommodate his bed. You use pillows for (hopefully) eight hours a day, so they are an important part of your life that you might not take into consideration. Pillows have been around since the beginning of time, and are an essential part of our life. So what is their history?
The definition of clothes in the dictionary is "things worn to cover the body and limbs e.g shirt, trousers", but in today's society, I believe people view the term as more than things that cover our body parts. We wear clothes for comfort whether it's for special occasions like Christmas or for lazy days when we rather stay inside than socialize with people in the outside world. Throughout the years the meaning of clothes has evolved. Yes, back then when cavemen walked the earth they probably saw clothes as pieces of material covering their bodies for heat, but now clothes hold more of a significant meaning in the modern world. I honestly like clothes, well who doesn't? I like the process of taking hours and hours until I find the right clothes to make a perfect outfit that suits me. I savor the satisfaction afterward. It may be a bit overdramatic, but I honestly can't help myself. Like what Isaac Bashevis Singer said "What a strange power there is in clothing".
Student Should Wear Uniform The use of uniform in schools has always been controversial. Many opinions favor the use of school uniform for many reasons such as being capable of promoting a good sense of belonging to the school community, reduction of fashion consciousness, and creation of a healthy academic environment where children can learn completely free of distractions. Proponents concur that wearing uniforms is cost effective because it’s more affordable for parents than regular clothing, it reduces distraction among students and improves the learning environment. On the other hand, some opponents might have the opinion that school uniforms amount to extra financial burdens on parents and also want to argue that there is no sufficient empirical evidence to support claims such as distraction among students, or that wearing uniforms can absolutely eradicate crime from schools. The use of uniforms is cost effective for parents because they are less expensive than regular clothing; most uniforms are relatively cheap in the stores compared to regular clothing, so the desire to pressurize parents to buy expensive clothing will be reduced.
