Have you ever wondered why a child or any human of mankind acts or thinks a certain way? When my teachers or others in general ask me what do I want to be when I grow up my first answer is always undecided. Therefore most of the time I respond with the answer of becoming a child psychologist. There are many different fields of psychology. Since my career is undecided, I just stick with becoming a child psychologist. I love little kids and helping when needed. Over time, as the days become more modern they start to consider calling it psychology. Eventually, this became a more sufficient career to people who started studying psychology. Alfred Adler is known as one of the most influential thinkers in psychology. He had a strong influence on a number of other eminent psychologists such as Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow, and Karen Horney. In order to become a Psychologist I must get a bachelors degree in sociology. I also must turn around and get my doctorate degree. This may take up to 4 to 7 years. It also depends on what field of psychology I go off into. At most 4 Years of college are needed in order to get accepted into undergraduate school to become a psychologist. Dr. Correia believes that if you want to be psychology make sure you like it enough to stick with it. Starting early and learning psychology as soon as possible and continuing with it would be the best advice if you want to be a psychologist. From the time a child enters preschool, teachers begin asking a common question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” That dreaded query has always haunted me, mostly because the way it was redundantly asked put a ton of pressure on me and my peers. The question was like a rusty nail being hammered into our head’s by society. I continuously had the cliché answers of becoming a doctor, teacher, or a police officer, but with serious reservations. After years of not having a clue, I started to think about what I like to do after the stresses of work and school were gone at the end of the day.
Child Psychologists - I am very interested in the field of child psychologist, mainly because so many doctors, parents, and school officials only desire that children behave rather than wondering what is making them behave this way. I would love the opportunity to use my knowledge from health psychology, and other complimenting classes to help determine the reasoning behind behavior issues, social ineptness, and emotional needs that children with and without special circumstances deal with on a daily basis. I realize that in order to perform this type of job I have several more years of hard work and dedication ahead. However, I feel that the need is present and in our fast-paced world, it appears to be growing rather than leveling out.
I wanted to be the reason that kids smiled and be the person that kids looked up to. So, I became a preschool teacher. I quickly learned that it was not the field for me to be in. So, I searched for a new career field. I knew I wanted to work with kids. I thought about a social worker and then I realized I would lose my job quicker than I got it. So, I considered being a juvenile corrections officer. When I looked at all the different things I could do with in that field I instantly fell in love with it.
