Child Psychologist Career Essay Choosing a career in children psychology can be a very demanding but also very rewarding job. The schooling and training can also be extremely rigorous. You have to be a good observer with attention to detail. You need to be able to notice the subtle changes in children's behavior. You need to have an open mind so you can question your assumptions. This process begins with four years of undergraduate studies in psychology. The coursework involves studies of statistics and research methods, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, the psychology of learning, history, and systems of psychology. Once a bachelor's degree is obtained, the next step is taking graduate studies in psychology, specifically child psychology, developmental psychology, or school psychology, are ideal for this type of career. These programs usually last two years. Graduate studies in child psychology usually focus on helping students develop the skills they need to effectively treat children with social, emotional, behavioral, or psychological issues. These courses include assessments and diagnoses, individual and group therapy techniques, educational psychology, psychopathology, and quantitative analysis. Sometimes, graduate programs will include an internship requirement in which students spend about 1,000 hours in a supervised placement. The final step in becoming a child psychologists is to complete a Ph.D or Psy.D in clinical or child psychology. These studies can last about two to five years, depending on the program requirements. There are many aptitudes that you may be required to have to become a successful child psychologist. Communication is probably one of the most important ones, child psychologist must be able to communicate with children on their level. Child Psychologists - I am very interested in the field of child psychologist, mainly because so many doctors, parents, and school officials only desire that children behave rather than wondering what is making them behave this way. I would love the opportunity to use my knowledge from health psychology, and other complimenting classes to help determine the reasoning behind behavior issues, social ineptness, and emotional needs that children with and without special circumstances deal with on a daily basis. I realize that in order to perform this type of job I have several more years of hard work and dedication ahead. However, I feel that the need is present and in our fast-paced world, it appears to be growing rather than leveling out.

Children have a way of not being able to express themselves fully so being able to help them understand their emotions.

According to Ann-Mari Brubakk, to become a Pediatrician requires a hard and long education, because you need an official study of medicine in the bottom and then you can specialize further. First, as Ann-Mari Brubakk said you need to have science in High School, and it requires good grades. Then, as Raymond Karlsen said that in Norway, the medical school is 6 years, and then you become a general practitioner. To become an official pediatrician, one must obtain an M.D. degree, take a licensing examination, complete a one to two year internship, and complete at least five years of residency, or seven years if they want board certification in a specialty (“Physicians”).
Many people in this world want to make a difference in life. However, most people do not want to put in all the effort that it takes to do so. The job of a pediatrician is life-changing to many. Unfortunately, it takes drive and effort that many people do not have, to become a pediatrician. A pediatrician’s job is a highly-skilled and interesting job because he or she has the privilege to deal with and help as many children as possible.
