Although I chose not to pursue a career in health psychology, I find that the fields of psychology that appeals to include families, children, and parents who are struggling to maintain control and are in need of guidance, which include the following:
• Child Psychologists - I am very interested in the field of child psychologist, mainly because so many doctors, parents, and school officials only desire that children behave rather than wondering what is making them behave this way. I would love the opportunity to use my knowledge from health psychology, and other complimenting classes to help determine the reasoning behind behavior issues, social ineptness, and emotional needs that children with and without special circumstances deal with on a daily basis. I realize that in order to perform this type of job I have several more years of hard work and dedication ahead. However, I feel that the need is present and in our fast-paced world, it appears to be growing rather than leveling out.

School Psychologists - I would enjoy being a school psychologist in order to help the children that are struggling academically and emotionally succeed.
There are so many cases of bullying, and suicide in young children that I would enjoy helping before it gets to that level. I would also enjoy helping parent become empowered to becoming their children's ambassadors when dealing with situations that they are unfamiliar but need addressing. This also would be a career path that would require more educational time for myself however as stated above the rewards far outweigh the time
invested. • School Counselor - In some cases a school will have school psychologists however more often than not the position is held by a school counselor. This position appears to mirror the responsibility of the school psychologists. • Animal Assisted Therapists - I am newly interested in the use of animal-assisted therapy and don't know as much as I would like to know, however what I do know is the difference it has made in my nephews life. My nephew is autistic and one of the sweetest 10 year olds that I know, however he does struggle with showing emotions. His therapist recently introduced the idea of adding a pet to his life. My sister already had a couple of beagles yet he had shown no interest. As odd, as it may seem they were at the fair and he took to a chicken, which was surprising. The woman was generous enough to indulge William and allow him the opportunity to feed and touch the hen and he was hooked. He now has his own 4 hens that he is in charge of taking care of on a daily basis. It has helped with his affection towards people, his patience when frustrated, and he now has a place to go when he is feeling overwhelmed. This is not to mention the amount of responsibility this has given him while helping to work with his developmental difficulties. o "Interacting with animals can enhance psychosocial well-being (O'Haire 2010). Documented benefits include reduced stress, lowered heart rate and blood pressure, reduced loneliness and isolation, increased social interaction and connection, and increased socio-emotional functioning (e.g., Friedmann and Son 2009; Wells 2009). The inclusion of animals in therapeutic activities is known as animal-assisted intervention (AAI), which encompasses both animal-assisted therapy and animal-assisted activities." (O'Haire, 2013) When considering the future of the health care system, the aging population, and health psychology and how it might impact my future career, I really don't see that much of an impact. Children are being born every day, issues with children (behavioral, mental, and emotional) remain a consistent therefore I believe there will be little to no impact on my future career path.
I have always been interested in working with children. Becoming a teacher has always been a potential career path for me; however, I recently discovered the position of a child life specialist which has further broadened my interest for a future career. Although they are not educators in school, they are extremely important since they are the educators for children and their families to help overcome difficult and/or challenging life events. As a child life specialist I will be teaching children and families in hospitals how to cope with their diagnoses, how a surgery day will go, how certain lifestyles will have to change, and much more.
I had the opportunity to interview with the school psychologists on our campus. She currently holds a master’s level degree in psychology and has worked for the district for 10 years now with 3 of those years at this location. Discussing what she does on a regular bases she explained how she reaches out to contacts within the community to help parents and children with unresolved issues to help them find answers. She creates activities that help to nurture a better lifestyle for these families. I discussed with her in length about these events and she described them as a social environment conducive to a higher quality in learning, social interaction and family lifestyle. The reason for planning these events in our campus is because of the lower demographics and the campus considered a special class of schools which are known as Title 1 which receives more aid than other campuses.

One of my visions as a psychology practitioner scholar is becoming a clinical counselor. My purpose in psychology is to help people understand their life in a clear distinct way. I specifically want to target children and, help them grow and be more than they have the potential to be. I want to focus on the child development of children based on their environment. I want to be able understand children react the way they do in certain situations. Children have a way of not being able to express themselves fully so being able to help them understand their emotions.
Health Psychologists and Neuropsychologists go together in a way. A health psychologist study how health and illness affect a person’s life, they teach people and medical staff about on psychological is...
Continuing to study education and children psychology will contribute to my future profession because I believe teachers never stop learning and that we need to continue going to school to be able to provide excellent services to children. I think educators need to continue and not stop their studies because children need the best education and guidance. I learned in this class that educators need to be role models for children and their families and that we need to respect their culture to be able to understand them
Careers related to a career in counseling psychology would be family psychology, clergy workers, social workers, and special education teachers. I had a counselor in middle school name Mrs. Toles. She made such an imprint on my life. Mrs. Toles undoubtedly provided encouragement and problem solving skills girls ages 15-17 could relate to. Even now as a 22 year old adult, I still know Mrs. Toles, and still feel a close bond with her. My “interview” would be considered long term because she has taught me so much about her career over the years. For the record, my ultimate dream would be to be working in a high school environment just as she does. Mrs. Toles has taught me so just by observing the way she is with people and children speaks volumes. She is intelligent, aware of the world she and her students live in. She teaches, and counsels right from wrong. Mrs. Toles advised me that I get some experience in teaching, because many jobs in the field of counseling psychology in schools requires experience. Becoming a social worker is also another field of psychology that I am interested in; Mrs. Toles agrees that this will provide excellent opportunities for achieving my goals. My
I have had several wonderful opportunities to work with children. At my school I enjoyed helping teach a young children's music class by playing songs for them, telling them about the violin, and helping them develop a love of beautiful music. I would enjoy continuing this as an adult. Last year I helped a kindergarten teacher in an underprivileged school, stapling papers and supervising children. I most enjoyed helping small groups learn the alphabet, supervising two children at a time as they tried to match the capital and lowercase letters and identify each letter.
health counselor, doctor, or teacher in the psychology field. I know that I am in the right field for
My first semester in college, I took a Psychology 101 course and immediately knew I wanted to work in this field. I was drawn into different theories and how individual’s minds work. I always believed I was born to help others and guide them to success in life. I desire to help others because of my own personal struggles with mental illness. My unique perspective on mental illness allows me to empathize on a different level with individuals. I desire to give back and support to the community the way it was there for me during my dark times. I was lucky to have known from the start that psychology was my interest. I am excited to continue my education in the counseling field and become a future Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
The career field I picked was Child Psychology. Child psychology is the study of how children act and behave. In general, a childhood psychologist might work with children and their primary caregivers in order to research, assess, and possibly treat developmental issues. Depending on his preferred area of study, a child psychologist will often work with all sorts of children. Not every child that a child psychologist works with is considered to be abnormal. A child psychologist might work with so-called "normal" children for several reasons.
A career in psychology is one that offers a wide variety of paths in which you can pursuit it. When one decides that they want to accomplish a degree in psychology, the next step is to decide what specific path you are willing to take. In the beginning we might feel overwhelmed, unsure and scared by having all these choices, and not knowing which one to turn to, or if were even making the right choice. Exploring the different paths in the career can help us narrow down the alternatives that we are exposed to. I have decided to major in psychology and work in a field with kids, and have decided to explore the following jobs in the field of psychology: clinical psychology, developmental psychology,
My interest in Psychology began in 2012, when I had the opportunity to research on my own about the subject. After I embarked on an introductory course in Psychology to relieve the boredom of working in a call centre, I then was motivated to continue with my studies. After securing my Higher and HNC in Social Science – I continued with the HND.
The general practices of a Clinical Psychologist is to asses patients, diagnose disorders and recommend possible treatments. They integrate scientific theories, understand, and focus on intellectual, emotional, biological, social and behavioral adjustments. They allow people to vent and cope with their feelings while determining what exact type of treatment would best suit them and their emotional well-being. To become a Clinical Psychologist it can become a very difficult and distressing job and it may or can become overwhelming. However with the right patience and comfortable adjustments one can assess and help another cope with their mental instability.
Currently, I work at the Foster Knox Day Care here at UCM. Being a Social Work major has enhanced my love of helping children. After taking Human Behavior, I can cue in what is going on in the developmental stage of the child life. Now I understand that a two-year may not say No to be defiant. Being able to interact with children has made me more aware that I want to work with children as a social worker.
