In this essay I will give a detailed overview of my work experience that took place at Foundation UK situated in Leeds. The small-scale charity has two teams and I underwent my placement within the organisation of the young person’s team. The young person’s team consists of various support workers who each carry numerous caseloads of customers. Customers range from the age of sixteen to twenty-four years old. My role within placement was to shadow several support workers who had clients that were eighteen years old or younger. The experience did in fact change my personal self-awareness, especially since my expectations for meeting the young boy were dubious in the fact precautions were put in place, for example, such as sitting near a door in a room that had easy access to leave. The consequences of this pose a great benefit to my future skills as a social worker since the importance of self-awareness is deemed essential for ”being able to articulate values and to develop awareness of how we see the world in the broader social realm alongside how to react to particular situations.” (Gardner (2001,p 38). Starting with such a hectic and medium risk customer visit did prepare me for any other client visits I undertook. I integrated the knowledge of knowing when was appropriate to input on a customer’s situation and when wasn’t throughout my placement. I learned to be sensitive to the fact I was a stranger to these vulnerable customers and always tried to put them at ease explaining my social position and why I was shadowing their support
During my time at placement I have worked with a diverse range of people. Not only have I engaged with children, from babies up to children aged 18, but I have also worked with adults. The families that I have supported have consisted of 2 parent families, lone parents, through to grandparents whom have a residency order. These families all had different backgrounds and unique needs, ranging from carers with learning disabilities, those with mental health issues and families who were unemployed and living in poverty. The children I worked with were not only affected by these factors, but they also had their own issues to contend with, including; child J who had learning difficulties and was significantly behind in his education; child E who was delayed developmentally due to experiencing neglect, and child R who had been subjected to physical abuse and was now suffering with low self-esteem and self-confidence.
The one common passion that all social workers have is the ability to fight for other individual’s human rights and justice. What society often forgets is the fact that every human being in the world has human rights, but everywhere you go there are people mistreated and considered disposable. In a world that has a vast amount of cultures and customs, it is pertinent that social workers become aware of the diversity that exists. Social workers are expected to be culturally competent, empathetic, and sensitive to those that might be different from us. Social workers are the instruments to change the lives of people in mirco, meso, and macro settings. Social workers, especially those who are therapists or case managers, need to have a global perspective while working in the field. Social with global perspectives will help social workers empathize with their clients, teach them skills that can be applied in the field, and understand how one policy in one country can affect others.

Child Labor In the world today, there are many different types of illegal human trafficking. Some examples are sex trafficking, mail-order brides, and child labor. Child labor is when any children under the age of 18 are coerced into labor by an employer, regardless of physical restraints. This horrendous crime of forcing kids to work can happen anywhere in the world, from Asia, to Africa, even to America.
Over the past eight weeks this class has not only fulfilled my major requirements, but also made me understand more about the complexity of child development and how I can become a better person as a future parent and educator. Since I am an Education major, the four topics that would benefit me in the future are Erikson’s stages, Induction, Educational Self Fulfilling Philosophy, and Adolescence. I plan to be successful with my career and use what I have learned in Child Development to prepare future’s leaders of tomorrow.

Early years setting such as Rainbows End Nursery follows a curriculum made for all early years settings therefore for the setting there are legal requirements that they have to meet. Although, children will benefit greatly from a meditative practice, it is unrealistic to think that all children will be willing to sit in silence for twenty minutes. When working with kids and meditation, it is important to give them instructions or use music or guided imagery to help them enjoy it while staying focused.
I am taking this course because I mean it is a requirement for being able to apply for becoming an RA, but really it is even more than that. I am hoping to learn; how to better my time management skills, how to be an effective leader while having the role of an RA, how to facilitate discussions between residents and myself, and lastly, how to be the best overall resident’s assistant I can be and pointers on being able to do that. The role of an RA is probably common sense to most people, but to really understand it is the difference. One should be able to bring residents together as a community not just on their floor, but in the hall and on campus as a whole. This year I live on the first floor of Hurst Hall. My situation is probably much different than most of the other residents on Ball State campus because where I live we have only about twenty girls on the floor when many other floors have a lot larger amount. My floor mates and I are definitely a close knit family, and I know quite a few people throughout the building due to my involvement in Hall Council and being our first floor representative.

The functioning definition of child labour is; work that deprives children of childhood, their potential and dignity, and that is harmful to physical and or mental development. Someone is considered a child under the age of 18. It refers to work that: Is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous to children, Interferes with their schooling by: Depriving them of their opportunity to attend school; Obliging them to leave school prematurely; or Requiring them to attempt to combine school attendance with excessively long and heavy work. The ages of child labourer’s lies between 5-17 and in a statistic from 2012 there are an estimated 168 million child labourers worldwide. On average, one in every seven children is a child labourer. Child labourers are seen to be a great source of employment because they are cheap, easy to control, and unaware of their rights. Many children work long grueling hours in poor conditions and often do not even receive their pay. Challenging the authorities of the workplace often results in beatings on the children and the work quickly becomes slavery. Although cheaper than adults, children suffer much higher risks when working in environments that are deemed safe for adults. Some of these health and developmental risk factors include: Rapid skeletal growth, development of organs and tissues, greater risks of hearing loss, risk assessment abilities are lower, more need for food and rest, higher chemical absorption rates etc. Child labour entitles psychological effects such as social anxiety, depression and retains mental development through social interaction and learning. As I personally take the time to have a reflection over the course of “Child and Adolescent Development” I find myself intrigued with the amount of knowledge I gained during this course this semester. I wanted to take the time to concentrate on three specific areas in which I felt I had the most growth, but also came as a challenge to me as well. It is important when reflecting over a course that I look at what I found to be challenging, as this was an opportunity of growth for me individually. In this paper I will review some of the main topics that I found to be interesting but also resourceful for my future aspiration not only as a family life educator but also a mother one day.
