Animal or Human Lives? Animals are taken from their natural habitat and conveyed to a laboratory, an entirely new world to them. Experimented and enslaved in a cage on a daily basis and they can’t do anything about it. People believe that just because they are animals they do not have sentiments, but on the contrary animals are just like humans. Not in the physical aspect, but indeed are similar in the mental aspect. It is not fair for animals to be treated harshly when they have done nothing wrong. Humans take away their rights to live freely in their habitat, allowing them to contribute to their ecosystem. Science has advanced abundantly, scientist should not be required to perform experiments on animals there are other resources that can …show more content…
“Animal abuse? I don’t look at it that way. It’s not testing cosmetics. It’s trying to save my life,” argues Eileen Youtie in Animals 2.0 a patient with cancer whose life relies on mice who have been experimented on in order to find a cure. Youties’ point is that the experiment done to animals to find a cure is not animal abuse because it is for the welfare of humans. “Animal research has also contributed to major advances in understanding and treating conditions such as breast cancer, brain injury, childhood leukemia, cystic fibrosis, malaria, multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis, and many others, and was instrumental in the development of pacemakers, cardiac valve substitutes, and anesthetics,” (“Animal Testing”). Yes, animal experimentation has saved millions of lives, but millions of animals have died and suffered. Animals’ purpose is not to serve as a scientific model to be used whenever it is needed. Laboratories should ban animal experimentation for the safety and well being of animals. It is a problem that people are not aware about and it's time people take action to aid the world back. If harmful experiments are not allowed to be performed on humans, why should they be done on animals? Both have the same rights only difference is that some humans don't respect them. It is time humans do something selfless and start considering wildlife crucial to the
Over 100 Million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in testing labs every year. Animals are used to test the safety of products, advance scientific research, and develop models to study disease and to develop new medical treatments, all for the sake of mankind. Animals should not be used for scientific research because animal testing is inhumane, other testing methods now exist, and animals are very different from human beings. While animal testing has led to many life-saving cures, animal testing is cruel and inhumane because it involves inflicting pain and harm on the test subject to study its effects and remedies. Testing involves physically restraining, force-feeding, and depriving animals of food and water.
The ethics behind using animals for experiments and tests has been questioned and debated for years. Many people believe that animal experimentations can be crucial towards medical breakthroughs such as the cure for cancer, HIV/AIDS or asthma. Meanwhile others argue that animals that are used to test cosmetics such as make-up and perfumes are inhuman because is not going to help improve the human race. Animals suffer through multiple types of torture such as being forced to ingest poisonous chemicals, blinded, burned, stapled, and infected with disease viruses. Even though animal experimentation may be considered inhumane to many, animal experimentation is crucial to advancements in medical research and can lead to a better quality of life; on the other hand, animal experimentation should not be used to develop cosmetics because such experimentation is cruel and unnecessary.
Animal experimentation has been and will continue to be a source in scientific research. Similarities between animals and humans allow for researchers to provide safer drugs and new treatments for diseases. (Foundation for Biomedical Research (FBR), 2008). Animal experiments have provided many positive outcomes in medical advancements that save human and animal lives. However, many people in today’s society have an emotional attachment to animals which fuels opposition to animal experimentation. But anyone concerned for human life must unequivocally endorse the rightness of using animals in medical research (Epstein, 2005). Studies using animals have been a practice and debated for hundreds of years. Scientists and medical researchers support animal testing which is necessary for medical advancements to treat disease. To preserve human life, animal experimentations will continue to play a vital role for medical testing in the introduction of new medications, toxicity testing and improved medical procedures.
Imagine yourself or even your own pet, in a cage, inside a laboratory and having to be experimented on with needles injecting all kinds of different chemicals into yours or their body. In the article, A Change Of Heart about Animals, Jeremy Rifkin says, “They feel pain, suffer and experience stress, affection, excitement and even love”(2). Animals are living breathing beings, they have brains like us and they have hearts like us, so why do we treat them so differently? In laboratories, animals may be treated with dignity due to the Animal Welfare Act, but they still experience pain and suffering from being experimented on. Animal experimentation and testing should be eliminated if it is being done for our wants but for our needs it is different. For instance, if the experiments and testing are for a mediation for human use, then that would be understandable. In this situation, it is for human wants, such as fragrance, hair products, and makeup. There different types of brands that provide these products that work just as well and were not experimented on animals.
Imagine yourself locked up in a cold, dirty cage, without any sort of rights. You can't move around as you wish, force-fed substances you never seen, you get harmful chemicals rubbed into your skin or dripped into your eyes, purposely exposed to toxic drugs, chemicals and fumes, and forced to undergo painful shots that affect you mentally and physically. I know, it sounds horrible and it gets worse. You get an injury, a severe open wound, you're in the cage and can barely move. There are people around you, but they do nothing but observe you and take notes. This is what millions of animals who end up in laboratories feel: abused, neglected, hopeless, helpless and hurt. Animal testing is wrong, and I believe it should be banned. Every year, more than 115 million animals are used in laboratory experiments. Within the European Union, more than 12 million animals are used and more than 100 million are killed in the Unites States alone from testing. Because only a small percentage of
In addition, animals get placed in a cage and are being put in tremendous amount of harm. Animals being used for research get badly mistreated and suffer from what scientists do to these creatures. Scientists put these animals in so much discomfort just to be used for biomedical research and they suffer from these testings. These creatures are supposed to live in the wild not feel discomfort by scientist who bring danger to them. Scientist just put animals in danger and misery for the benefit of human health, and the scientist do not even care about what they are doing to these creatures.
Today, millions of animals are being tested for the use of human products, causing them to fall ill and die, leaving them no choice but to be experimented on. Animal abuse can be more than what meets the eye. Specifically, animal testing is a form of animal abuse and usually ends in the death of a harmless animal. Some might say that there is no other way to test products, but due to the harm that is done and our advancements in science, animal testing should not be tolerated. Our advancements in science have enabled us to create other things that we can test on, instead of harming innocent animals.
According to the article” Save the Animals: Stop Animal Testing,” animals’ rights are violated when the sciences are doing the research and there are many similar ways between humans and animals, such as how they feel and behave. Even though animals cannot express their opinions, they still feel, think, and experience pain. When the sciences use animals to do the research, humans still need to respect them because of animals’ rights. Animals have their opinions they cannot explain and humans have a duty to protect animals’ rights. Animal testing should be banned because humans need to respect their minds.
Around each year 26 million animals in the United States are taken away from their habitat and are used for animal testing. These animals are used for scientific developments and commercial products therefore when being tested on these animals they are harmed. Animal testing is wrong because animals have feelings, emotions, and a life. Animals should have the right to not be taken away from there habitat to be in a cage tested and abused. Since scientists are experimenting why not experiment on some thing other then animals. Human products should be used on humans since it’s for human and not used on innocent animals. This is one of the many reasons of animal extinctions and scientists are encouraging others to try and do there experiment on these poor animals therefore people around the world should stand against it.
Throughout history, animals have been used in experiments to test product safety and obtain medical knowledge that benefits both humans and animals alike. Every year there are numerous medical breakthroughs, such as medications and surgical instruments, which are tested on animals to insure their safety before they are deemed acceptable for human use. Even though the results of the experiments saved millions of human lives, they are also killing millions of innocent animal lives in the process. The use of animals for scientific experimentation purposes is unnecessary because countless animals are put through painful procedures in order to benefit humans lives when there are known alternative methods for achieving the same experimental results.
Millions of animals are used to test consumer products, but they also become victims of experiments for medical research. In The Ethics of Animal Research (2007) both authors state that there have been many medical advances with the development of medicines and treatments as a result of research conducted on animals (para 1). These medical improvements have helped many people be able to enjoy life, but some people still believe that animal research is mean and avoidable .... ... middle of paper ... ...
Admittedly, animal testings did provide various cures and improvements on a multitude of diseases such as smallpox, autism, blindness, breast cancer, blindness and many other major illnesses that are in need for a cure. Animal testing is a key to numerous medical breakthroughs with endorsements from the vast majority of biologists and health organizations. Whilst it may seem true that animal experimentation have contributed a lot to these important medical discoveries, more than a hundred million animals have been killed each year in the U.S laboratories. The abominable statistic has raised controversy on whether if it is still moral to continue experimenting on animals; deliberately taking millions of innocent lives away through trials to find the right cure and treatments. Although animals do not have the cognitive ability or moral judgement that we do, they do suffer in a way that is similar to human beings.
“Over 1 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in U.S. labs” according to DoSomething.org. And although these animals may be considered protected under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) they are still able to be tortured and mistreated in labs. On top of all this, there is absolutely no guarantee that results and data collected from these procedures are accurate. Our anatomic builds are similar in ways but not at all interchangeable. Even though it has saved lives, animal experimentation should be banned because it is not a guarantee that these procedures are done pain free and humans and animals react differently to the medicines and chemicals used.
Animals are living, sentient beings. They are defenseless. They are experimented on and injected with test drugs that cause them to suffer unnecessary, excruciating pain. With the rise of new alternatives, animal experimentation should come to an end, once and for all.
When I was three years old, I spent my summer in a pond by my home chasing frogs and snakes. When I was five years old, my mother found me sleeping under a mare with her foal. When I was fifteen I spent my spare time working for a family friend’s thoroughbred farm. However, my first love for animal care was born when I was nineteen when I first held an owl. I was an extremely fortunate child to grow up in the Maine wilderness as I did, learning to marvel at the raw beauty of nature at a young age. I attended a nature themed summer camp every year throughout my youth, learning about the sciences of soil and water systems and how they impacted the animals around them. I took every opportunity to immerse myself in animals at any opportunity, from
