In my opinion, the biggest challenge facing students is spending too much time on homework. Students do not have enough time to complete the hours of homework they have each night. Solutions that will help students overcome this challenge include starting homework earlier, getting rid of distractions, and being more productive. Students will have more time to do what they want and have more time to rest if they complete their homework in a more efficient way.
For instance, right when students get home from school they should start their homework. This will help them get work done earlier, so they will have more time to relax. If everything is done, the student’s parents will not worry that their child is staying up late completing homework. Creating a homework schedule is also a good way to help students finish homework on time. In addition, students will be able to go to sleep earlier and be awake the next day and focus better. If a student has two to three hours of homework each night and does not start it right when he or she gets home, he or she would have to stay up later and that would cause other family members to get frustrated. It will also be less stressful for the student that he or she does

Electronic devices like phones and iPads can cause students to slow down and can also cause students to procrastinate. If students play for too long, they will forget what they were doing and before long, hours would have gone by and no work was done. A high percentage of students procrastinate, and electronic devices play a main role in it. Students should put their devices in a drawer so they do not feel tempted to send texts or scroll through social media and lose focus on their work. Also, getting work done in a private area will let students concentrate only on their work. Less distractions from family members or noises will allow students to finish work faster and
79% of American middle school and high school students take part regularly in at least one after-school extracurricular activity. Many students participate in sports that can take up to 4 hours of their time, daily. Homework takes time to do after school and extracurriculars. If a student goes to school at 9:00 and gets out at 4:00, then goes to an after-school activity from 4:00 to 6:00, they will come home and have dinner from about 6:30 to 7:15, which means that they will probably start homework at around 7:30. This means that high school students will be up until about 11:00 finishing their homework, that’s without factoring in how much time the students will waste.
Many students who feel the pressure to succeed at the high school level have an unhealthy amount of stress. Students who feel this have been cheating, pulling all nighters, becoming depressed, and seeking relief in drug use, and self mutilation. On average in a recent study at Illinois high school students spend 3.07 hours of homework each night on just homework not including extra curricular activities(Jerushapope,2). Also in this high school students reported getting 6.8 hours of sleep each night, but 34.6% reported getting 6 or fewer hours of sleep(Jerushapope,2). Most high school students spend 2 hours of extra curricular activity each night thats not including homework so after those activities you have to come home and do homework and then you will not have a lot of time to sleep. Also most kids do not get a lot of time to spend with their parents during the weeknights. Some kids cannot even make it to the dinner table because they have so much homework and that is not healthy for the parents and their childs relationship. In ...
It can cause many distractions, it can be difficult to use and can take away from learning time. People are convinced that technology is an effective tool that will further learning. This can be true, but when you use tablets and different devices in class for an hour every day, the students will not be focused on schoolwork. In the article “Technology in the Classroom: Beginnings and Endings”, Mary Ann Matras suggests that, “The pencil is still the most efficient tool”.
That is the question that Sara Bennett, author of “The Case Against Homework”, answered in her argument. The issue, is that parents would love and do homework with their children, but they are mostly not doing in and the right way. So the real question is should parents even be helping with homework? Homework is not beneficial for children with parent
If students have a lot of homework and get home around 5:30, it will make it harder for some students to complete homework on time. If they have a big test the next day they will need to study really hard but it will be very late. Students will also try to stay up late to get homework done. The repercussion is that they will be extremely tired the next day and unfocused. Students will also be stressed out over what they need to complete and what still needs to be done.
The students might take a long time to finish one lesson and this will cause the ineffective use of
Cell phones may be the top of devices those distract students in class. The ubiquitous problem originates from the cell phones. I’m also a high school student, I can see some of my classmates use it for texting every day in class instead of listening to the teacher. Students also use it for playing video games, listening to music, watching videos. And definitely, while you are playing with your phones, you will not be able to absorb the lesson that the teacher is trying to teach. It’s not easy to do two things at the same time, except you are super. Have you ever tried to draw a circle by your left hand and draw a rectangle by the other hand simultaneously? When you do two things or more at the same time, your brain will just focus on one thing and naturally ignore the other. As Peter Bregman wrote in the Harvard Business Review Blog Network that multitasking can reduce productivity by as much as 40%, increase stress and cause a 10-point fall in IQ.
Homework offers multiple benefits for real life. One benefit of homework is that it helps the student develop essential skills. While homework may seem like a tedious task, it can help a student comprehend the material. Homework is necessary for more than just a grade; it is an assignment that teaches you valuable life skills. According to “Do students have too much homework?”, homework should lead students to be better at taking what they know and applying it to a certain task. Students tend to portray homework as something that they have to get done without knowing the value that lies behind it. Homework enables the student to recall a certain problem and apply it to another distinctive situation. According to “Do students have too much homework?”, applying knowledge is the most important. Learning is definitely important but what students do with the facts that they learned is essential as well. Applying knowledge allows the students to take a simple fact and relate it to a grander scheme of things. Relating what they know will enhance their creativity and let them see behind the lines of how everything connects.
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
All this can lead to students to performing more poorly on quizzes and exams. If a student is in a lecture and he or she is on their electronic device they are more likely to not remember more than half of the material being taught in the lecture. This is because they are either attempting to multitask or just completely disregarding what's going on. Science shows that humans cannot multitask, but simply alternate
Kralovec, author of The End of Homework argues that doing homework during high school has little or no effect on successful study skills of students in college. College students have only a few hours of class a week and lots of daytime hours in which to study. She says the college schedule is nowhere as grueling as in high school. In addition, the average adult does not return home from the office with three or more hours of work to complete (Kralovec). When "busy work" assignments are given carelessly and frequently, it causes students to lose interest in the subject. Negative results can also occur when a student is not able to complete his or her homework. Many times they will resort to copying homework, having others do their assignments, or cheating on tests. Bad habits such as these are likely to follow kids through their lives and have an effect on their moral judgment. With no consequences to these actions students will almost always take the easy way out when it comes to homework
I personally know people that simply cannot sit down with the ambition and motivation to go through the miniscule task of doing their homework. They'd rather spend their valuable time browsing the endless list of funny cat videos, playing video games or going to frat parties than laying out and opening up their textbooks to chapter 6 for last night's homework. a few students don't even have the motivation to even do their homework unless it's utterly necessary and crucial that they do so. instead of studying or preparing weeks before an important exam, he or she would be procrastinating. The test isn't even on their list of important things to do and if it is, then it's all the way at the bottom of their checklist.
needed. Making learning more interactive and hands-on, even frequent tests to see where the students stand and what they need help in can increase student productivity. These things will not be free, but they do not cost as much as a whole renovation and new technology, but they are minor changes that would help students be more comfortable and willing to learn.
Staying up all night to get homework turned in on time can often result in missing or being late to classes the next day. Some college students have children and having to take care of a child is a lot of responsibility that does not always allow parents to get an appropriate amount of sleep. Parents have to spend time with their children and have to help them with their homework as well. This can also result in missing classes or not being able to meet assigned deadlines. Although sleep is important, everyone needs to be able to go out and spend time with family and friends.
The work that students do can be too much to handle at one time. Trying to deal with homework and extracurricular activities at
