Reaction and Themes from The Inside Man
The film, The Inside Man, directed by Spike Lee, centers around a New York City Bank that is being held under siege by a group of very skilled and witty bank robbers. Their intentions are quite clear that they were just not going to rob the bank in a short amount of time, but instead wanted to attract the attention of all persons. From this incident (bank robbery), a series of events begins to unfold; themes then start to emerge from these events.
An early sign of love and romance is shown in a scene where the customers are in the waiting line in the bank and a young woman of Hispanic background engages in a telephone conversation with her lover. She is very loud but sounds pretty happy in her tone, and looks like she wants to let everyone in the bank know her story. There are other instances where this theme is prevalent, most notably with the protagonist Keith Frazier (played by Denzel Washington) in repeated telephone conversations with his girlfriend. Director Lee uses the telephone as a form of communication because the only thing that is keeping the characters from being with their loved ones is the bank robbery. Keith Frazier, being the committed individual he is, wanted to finish the bank robbery case first before going home to his girlfriend.
Another theme which is evident in the film is power and authority. There are a few very powerful and prominent individuals that are in this film. Their primary ambition is to remain at the top. The most notable person of power in this film, Arthur Case, is the owner and CEO of the bank that is under siege. His power is evident when he calls for the services of another power...

This is another commercial where we can directly see how the advertisers are overlooking gender stereotypes, by it being ranked number one it proves that when gender stereotypes and gender bias are not incorporated the advertisement becomes effective and
Common sense seems to dictate that commercials just advertise products. But in reality, advertising is a multi-headed beast that targets specific genders, races, ages, etc. In “Men’s Men & Women’s Women”, author Steve Craig focuses on one head of the beast: gender. Craig suggests that, “Advertisers . . . portray different images to men and women in order to exploit the different deep seated motivations and anxieties connected to gender identity.” In other words, advertisers manipulate consumers’ fantasies to sell their product. In this essay, I will be analyzing four different commercials that focuses on appealing to specific genders.
The documentary Killing Us Softly 4 discusses and examines the role of women in advertisements and the effects of the ads throughout history. The film begins by inspecting a variety of old ads. The speaker, Jean Kilbourne, then discusses and dissects each ad describing the messages of the advertisements and the subliminal meanings they evoke. The commercials from the past and now differ in some respects but they still suggest the same messages. These messages include but are not limited to the following: women are sexual objects, physical appearance is everything, and women are naturally inferior then men. Kilbourne discusses that because individuals are surrounded by media and advertisements everywhere they go, that these messages become real attitudes and mindsets in men and women. Women believe they must achieve a level of beauty similar to models they see in magazines and television commercials. On the other hand, men expect real women to have the same characteristics and look as beautiful as the women pictured in ads. However, even though women may diet and exercise, the reality...
In conclusion, the films and novel named above reveal the three unlikely elements that fuse to illustrate the advancement of power. As rank, pride and gender inequality become significant power increases and elevates the person holding that power. Though many crave power, few know how to maintain it with these same elements.

The lives that these men live makes them cruel and separate from the world, which in return makes having an actual loving relationship nearly impossible for them. Michael Sullivan, played by Tom Hanks, was and enforcer of the Chicago mob. Michael Jr, played by Tyler Hoechlin, was a 12 years old boy who became curious about what his father did for a living after question by his younger brother Peter. Michael Jr. decides to hide in the car and find out what type of work his father does. After seeing a man be killed, by his fathers co worker Michael Jr. attempts to run away, but can’t find a escape route. Sullivan works for John Rooney, Paul Newman, who was the mob boss and focused only on how to make money and said very little words. Rooney son Conner, played by Daniel Craig, is a member of the mob and gets jealous over the relationship that Sullivan has with his father. Sullivan finds out that Conner has been stealing from his father Mr. Rooney. This is where the movie’s scene for emotional showdown begins, because Sullivan sees Rooney as a father and Rooney sees Sullivan as a son that he never had. Advertising, whether criticized or celebrated, is undeniably a strong force in American society. Portrayals and Images of women have long been used to sell in published advertisements. However, how they have been used has changed enormously throughout the decades. Women have fought to find a lasting and prominent position in their society. Only in the span of twenty years, between 1900’s and 1920’s, the roles of women changed dramatically here in United States.
Written by Richard Wright, The Man Who Was Almost a Man takes places in the 1960s. The text shows the economic differences between two social classes. The story revolves around Dave Saunders, a seventeen-year-old teenager, who wants the world, or in this case, the base, to recognize his manhood. Under Marxist lens of interpretation, the readers can see the consequences of commodity fetishism, and the effects of alienation.
The plot of this film centers on the process of planning and executing this robbery and the motives that drive Danny to plan this heist. First, he must put together his team, whose different skills are important to carrying out the plan. He needs a right-hand man to help plan, a financier, an inside man, drivers, explosives experts, and a pickpocket. Much of the tension in the film comes from questions about Danny’s real motives for carrying out the robbery, and the team’s reactions when they find out it is not a simple robbery at all. The robbery itself requires the team to put together an exact replica of the casino vault they intend to rob, and practicing the complicated process of both robbing the vault and getting away with it. Once the vault has been robbed, Danny confronts Terry in an attempt to get his wife back. In the end he does, but it is a long process.
Nevertheless, majority of individuals in modern societies deem that, such advertisements can cause so many harmful effects to women gender identity, such as low self-esteem. Also, it can cause depression in the women advertising due to the lack of confidence. Whereas, a minority of people believe that, it is all about the women own decision whether to be exposed in such kinds of images or not. As well, it may benefit both parties, the women who advertise and the advertising companies that organize them. It can be assumed that, this issue of so-called advertising shapes female gender identity, has both benefits and damages, and damages can occur more than advantages.
Due to her vitamins the wife can excel and “thrive” whereas the husband is “all tuckered out by closing time”. Again roles come into play, the man tired from a long day at the office representing a blue collared business man, while the wife takes role of the housewife ready and willing to complete whatever is necessary to please her husband. The situation seems attractive to women, the man not only complimenting her good looks but her hard work as well. The words coming out of her husband’s mouth show a sense of validation, forcing the audience to believe that a woman’s tasks are indeed rewarding.
