1. All About You - How healthy are you? How many times a year are you sick? What kind of sicknesses do you get? What time of year do you get sick and under what circumstances? Have you ever had serious illnesses or accidents? If so, what and when? What are your health habits (sleep patterns, nutrition, stress etc.)? Whether you get sick or not, are you often tired or not able to be alert enough to do your best work? How do you deal with this situation, if it exists?
I ran cross country and track throughout high school and middle school, and even coming to college I’ve ran about 300-500 miles a year so I consider myself to be pretty healthy. However, I do get sick quite often. At a minimum I’m sick about once a year, and even though I get the flu shot every year, just like clockwork, every year I get the flu. To my memory, my history of being sick every year started in 10th grade. Before that, I rarely ever got ill. In 10th grade, I got bronchitis but I ran with it all cross country season and it turned to pneumonia. After that, my lungs were never quite the same.

The right side of her face is freezing up - almost like a stroke victims - so she’s been going to see a neurologist. She’s had a history of migraines and headache problems so that’s quite worrying. A couple things that I need to add more to my diet are fiber and vegetables. First semester of college, I was living in the dorms called Eaton, which is located next to a dining center and a “fast food” place called Clyde’s. For me, it was very easy to walk a half of a mile down the sidewalk to get something fast to eat. What I didn’t realize was how bad their food is for you and how often I made an appearance there. It wasn’t until winter break when I came home for a couple weeks and started to get back to my old ways of eating when my mom would prepare every meal, which would include some type of meat, potatoes, and fruits and vegetables.

A healthy lifestyle is usually picked up as we get older. However, think of how much more beneficial it would be for our bodies when we get older, if we would have learned and adapted to a healthier lifestyle when we were younger? Teaching your kids how important a healthy diet is, will help them maintain that lifestyle in their older years. Not to mention have lower health risks, higher self-esteem and it will give them the energy they need to keep up with their eating habits and maintain their body weight.
Previously to taking this class, I had never given much thought to my eating habits. I always thought of the way I chose to eat as one of those things I didn’t need to concern myself with too heavily now because I’m a young broke college student. The way I eat is pretty similar to the way most of my friends eat and when you live away from home, that seems like the norm for people in college. However, after applying what I’ve learned in this class to my life, I’ve realized that the dietary choices I make now affect not only my current health, but my future health as well. So overall, I would say that my eating habits are pretty bad, but I’m working on making them better.
