The Inside World of an Accounting Supervisor Accounting supervisor? I have never heard of it until I discovered Erica Morrison. Morrison is an accounting supervisor at Alliance Industries in Reno, Ohio. When people think of an accounting supervisor they think of a boss that watches over everything accounting related. Therefore, people believe this job is boring, because who would just want to overlook accounting documents all day? Morrison's definition of an accounting supervisor is someone that oversees accountants and fiscal officers. On top of that, she deals with bank reconciliations, financial statements preparation, and a lot of general banking for the company. She stated that 50% of her workweek is spent writing, emailing being the main form. She also voiced "the other half of my workweek is spent data entry, filing, writing checks, and blah blah blah." The format for emailing is the greeting, purpose of the message, any other information, thank you, and then the signature line. Mailing is the next form of communication Morrison uses. Mailing is used to mail vendor statements and invoices. The last form of communication she uses is Excel. If she collaborates with someone it usually depends on the type of document. For example, with the mailing form of communication she would collaborate with other co-workers and supervisors. With emailing she would potentially do it herself but have a co-worker proofread it. Excel is a great thing because "at the end of the day every owner of every company is going to want their own type of formatted report." When Morrison worked for the state government, she had to fill out forms to communicate some things and even occasionally had to write up her own letter to send to somebody to communicate. It was used more in state government because it is more "old school" compared to companies that use strictly email. She ends the statement with, "The in-state government is stuck in snail life."
Morrison boasted that the only writing class she took in college was business communications and that no training was required for her job. The company that hire her trusted that she knew to write well. However, Morrison started out at a tech and made her way up to supervisor. Therefore, the company had time to see her writings and to see her potential. There are only two qualifications that are recommended for this job and that is education and experience, while experience is strongly recommended more over
