As a result of participating in this workplace for the past two months, I have been able to acquire new skills and further develop on my current ones and also obtained knowledge that I will be able to utilise in my future career pathways. The following dot points briefly review the various employability skills and knowledge I have been able to acquire whilst participating within this workplace.

While working at Zerella Fresh I was required to utilise verbal and non-verbal communication to effectively converse with my co-workers and interact with the customers. Listening skills were also significantly important as the employees were required to quickly analyse and evaluate what the supervisors said, as they would only come around every hour and all the orders needed to be completed before the supervisor returns to collect the various orders and announce the new orders. Although this may seem easy, but this task requires everyone to communicate with each other to effectively complete the task at hand, which also required the employees to use their problem solving skills along with their decision making to assertively and efficiently complete the task within the set time. Each shift had around 20 workers, 6 graders (visually assesses the potatoes/carrots to determine whether they are suitable for consumption), 12 packers (Machineries pack the products in appropriately sized bags and the packers put them into crates and palates) and 2 forklift drivers that collect the palates), and two supervisors. Whilst at Zerella Fresh, occasionally small business owners would visit the workplace and purchase our products, however the orders are generally made from bigger companies and are made through the main office. When small business owners come to purchase the products, they would communicate with the supervisors, however when a supervisor was not present, I was required to take initiative and take their order and generally this process would take 10-15 mins, therefore, I had to converse with them for the time being so that they do not lose interest and leave without purchasing our products, which would indicate to the supervisor that my interpersonal skills are not competent enough to serve the customers. I was also encouraged to converse with the customers and attempt to increase the quantity of their order as this would be beneficial towards the company, as small orders would generally slow down the process of delivering to the larger companies such as Woolworths and
Introduction: Many assessment tools and interviewing skills are available to the clinical social worker within a mental health setting. This paper will examine one such assessment tool, the competency-based assessment, and its applicability in a mental health setting. A comparison will be made between this advanced assessment method and a generalist social work assessment. Interviewing people who have mental health concerns can offer challenges for clinical social workers. Several interviewing techniques that can help with some of these challenges will be outlined.
These are the skills and competencies I have learned through my studies at Walden University. Kaslow, Grus, Campbell, & Fouad, et al. (2009) stated professionalism comes from my respect for those who need help. Integrity can be built with confidence in the therapist. Attitudes are charitable, polite, caring emotions toward others that fuel my motivation toward helping. This concern welfare of others comes from my religious and personal experiences as a child and young adult.

As I have noted, I truly believe that the numerous job skills that are needed to be successful include dedication, communication, and adaptation. First of all, you must be devoted to your career if you want exemplary results. Equally important, being able to articulate your ideas, and intellectually communicate said ideas will ensure a successful time at you occupation. Last but not least, in order to be successful in your employment, you must be flexible to the obstacles that are inevitable. I urge you to strive to obtain these essential job skills because they are worthwhile.
My activating event is my Elementary Algebra math class that I needed to pass to graduate with associate degree in criminal justice. The primary stimulus that activated the stress response was math has always been my weakest subject, I had already taken the class twice and didn’t pass which caused me to stress out. My belief system and the negative self- talk really took away my confidence. I would tell myself that I was bad at math and I’m not as smart as the other students in class. I told myself that so much that I believed it and felt that I wasn’t capable of understanding math. The consequence of my belief caused me to not be able to sleep at night I would be up thinking about a test and about how much more money I would have to pay for
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.
In this report, I will reflect on my professional development throughout this module, from when I started in September, to now. According to Beausaert et al. (2011), ‘the art of self-evaluation is an integral element of reflection and involves critical insight into understanding one 's strengths and limitations’. Therefore, my aim is to identify my learning needs and to recognise my personal skills and capabilities, as well as identifying areas of my skill set that need to be refreshed or extended to stand out in the competitive job market. By doing this, I hope to demonstrate knowledge of the skills that I have gained during this module.
The average worker spends two-thousand and eighty hours a year at their place of employment. Communication within the workplace is often overlooked or not given as much importance as most people should allow, given the amount of time that is spent there. Beyond the more basic verbal speech, one must be aware of the nonverbal symbols and noise that can have an effect on communication. There are also cultural, environmental and internal factors that can effect communication and how successful it can be. The various perceptions that an individual has developed over their life can also effect communication. One’s ability to communicate effectively will determine the success and enjoyment that is to come from their job.
Employability has been defined as “the capability to gain initial employment, maintain employment and obtain new employment if required” (McQuaid and Lindsay, 2005; Hillage and Pollard, 1998). Although, the concept has been widely defined and generally accepted by researchers, there is still confusion as to how an individual tends to develop employment capacity in particular. Many researches have been conducted to identify the need to acquire and to find ways through which the capacity could be developed. The transition of the students from education to work has to be smooth to be more effective and benefit both the student as well as the general society.
These are the skills I already have such as: communication; personal skills; motivational; creative and time management skills. These I have previously acquired will help me to be successful in my career. To know how far on the scale of these specific skills I will have to do a self-assessment. Employability is a multifaceted concept and one of the major subjects of debate in terms of what it is, how it is measured, how it is developed, and who is responsible for it. It is also one of the widely debated issues of accrediting and determining world class higher education institutions which could go a long way in systematically improving the performance of an institution as well as an individual. Most of the studies regarding employability have found lesser understanding of this concept especially in graduates who need to be well versed with the concept of employability as they are the force that ignite this notion and take it forward to the workplaces and to the employers they encounter during their careers. Employability skills and Career readiness have become an integral part of education. Employers are looking for people with a combination of skills such as soft skills, customer service skills and life skills. Not having sufficient employability skill sets, is one of the main reason for many students not getting selected in campus drives. Focus is more on technical knowledge than soft skills in their curriculum. During the course of their education , required level of importance is not given to key qualities like effective communication, leadership qualities, time management skills, self motivation, problem solving skills and creative thinking.
