What interests you about being a Digital Ambassador? (Max 300 words) *
In my personal life, I’ve always enjoyed using social media services like Facebook and Snapchat in order to stay in touch with my friends and keep them updated on my life. One’s social media presence can also be a form of self-expression, particularly so in the cases of personal blogs, Twitter, and Instagram.
Before I applied to Emory, I enjoyed following Emory University on various social media outlets, which helped me gain a greater insight of what campus life would be like. After getting into Emory ED1, I noticed that the Emory University Class of 2020 (Official Group) contained the profiles of numerous upperclassmen, Emory Digital Ambassadors with the Admissions Office. In many ways, this role bears similarities to those of an Emory Digital Ambassador. Each week, I led a 45-minute tour for prospective families, showing them around campus and answering their questions. I also participated in various other admissions initiatives, including Open Houses and taking prospective admitted students to my classes on revisit days.
Being a tour guide allowed me to intact with many prospective students, which I greatly enjoyed. It also taught me the importance of friendliness, strong interpersonal skills, and effective communication, all qualities that are essential for being a good Digital Ambassador. By serving as a Digital Ambassador at Emory, I hope to help prospective and admitted Emory students better understand college life though engaging with them social media.
Because of my previous admissions office experience, my first choice would be to serve as a Digital Ambassador with Emory University Undergraduate Admission. However, I would be open to serving as a Digital Ambassador with any of the three
What is remarkable about social media is the ability to create: the ability for a user to craft himself into a unique persona--the ability to pick and choose what the audience sees and does not see. Phenoms around the world use social media to promote, to engage, and ultimately to ascend in the hierarchy of fame.
Additionally, good OLs serve as role models by demonstrating positivity, enthusiasm, and professionalism at all times. They are open-minded, and accepting of diverse perspectives while recognizing that incoming Emory students come from a wide variety of backgrounds in all respects. By doing these things, OLs can help to empower often nervous incoming Emory students to feel more confident in themselves.
Through social media, we get to see what everyone is doing on daily basis. Compared to our parent’s young years, rather than sending letters via mail, social media has made it easier to communicate with family members throughout the country. In addition, growing up there was a lot of confusion as what my identity was regarding nationality.
Blogs, digital portfolios and CV’s are some of the ways to gain identity exposure. A personal brand-building course from Udemy offers lectures explaining how to get the most out of each of the media platforms, such as, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter. Those are just a few of many, but the course also explains how to be the first on emerging platforms. Because technology is frequently changing, keeping up with trends is important to online presence.
Being a part of Appalachian State University’s Honors College would be an amazing privilege. According to the university, the Honors College has been providing superior education to intellectually-motivated students for more than thirty five years. Being a part of the Honors College would help me promptly reach the personal, intellectual, and professional goals I set for myself as well as optimize my college experience.
In higher education, traditional students are characterized as 18-22 in age, majority Caucasian, full-time and interested extra-curricular activities (Falk & Blaylock, 2010). Today’s undergraduate students are classified as “digital natives,” because of their advanced exposure to the Internet, social media and other technology since birth (Liang 2010). The digital natives who started their undergraduate education in fall 2013 grew up when PCs, email, text messages, DVDs, smartphones, and the Internet already existed (Levine & Dean, 2013). Google, file sharing, Skype, YouTube, and Facebook existed by the time digital natives entered middle school, they were introduced to the iPhone before high school, and they in college they expect to communicate
We can also have just as much presence as most startups and mid-size companies and products. Social media tools have leveled the playing ground and enabled us to reach incredible heights, at the cost of our time. This allows me to constantly interact with individuals who are in the same place that I was when I was making my decision where to attend college. This job is very rewarding to me, and I realize that this is another situation where I am able to use my “voice” to relate to people regarding their futures, and the college experience that they seek. As a follow-up to tours, the prospective students and their families complete reviews on their college tour process. I am proud to see that people really enjoy my tours, find me enthusiastic, positive, and knowledgeable about the University and the City of Pittsburgh.
Online communication host’s unique opportunities for education but the time lapses, absence of social, visual and auditory cues create a communication handicap. The diversity of community college provides unique opportunities for intercultural relationships as well as intercultural challenges hoping to meet different goals, and come from different backgrounds
Student Ambassadors are current students, who represent their university, and act as a bridge between the university and the outside population. They use their own experiences to give prospects, who are interested in the university life, a glimpse of what it is like to be a student. This might mean escorting them around the campus and answering queries on ‘Open Days’, taking care of freshers when they arrive for their first tenure, or managing booths at meetings and career fairs.
Motivate Audience: I know that since we all use social media, it may beneficial to learn about the history and see where it all began.
For all we know, social media has changed our lives forever. It gives us some opportunities that we did not have before. My social media use is very similar to that of Eva and Sara. We all use social media more as an observer to keep in the loop of friends and family. We are able to stay up updated to the second on everything that is happening in the world simply because of social media. Now we can only imagine what the future hold and how we will communicate
Social media can be used in our days as a very helpful tool for many things in changing any person’s life ant attitude. It has a positive impact on the society level. These media will keep the person socially active and open to all what happened in the world. Sharing the latest news, photos, finding new friends and knowing the culture. Also, it allows for millions to keep in touch with each other and update for all the new technology. And, it helps people who have difficulties in communication with others to be more socialized and stronger and develop more confidence to feel more comfortable, protected and relaxed just sitting behind a screen. “It saved me time and money without ever requiring me to leave the house; it salvaged my social life, allowed me to conduct interviews as a reporter and kept a lifeline open to my far-flung extended family” says Leonard(231).
Some of the ideas that are central to the idea that social media is a benefit to today’s society are that social media encourages increased communication with friends and family, provides fast access to breaking news and other information, and help business attract new business and correspond more quickly with their existing customers.
