Over the years, teachers have realized that some students learn better when taught in different ways. A teachers task is to make sure that us students learn. All students want to do is have fun. There has to be a good balance between the two. Teachers have tried several ways to let us have fun and learn at the same time. Some ways teachers could make learning fun and more effective are doing group projects, having study groups, and making and doing review games.
Since starting high school, several of my teachers have made us do large projects. I remember my junior year of high school, my biology two teacher assigned us a museum project. We had to go to different places and collect leaves. Not only did we need the leaves, we had to press them and label certain parts of them. I remember that one of the items was a lima bean. Not only did you have the lima bean, but you had to grow it so that it showed the different parts of it. It was a fun project because you weren’t just sitting at your computer all day, you actually had to get out of the house and go find these leaves. ...
13. Preventing Boredom and filling “free” time: To prevent students from becoming sidetracked and bored, I know it is important to have a continuous flow of activities. To ensure this, I plan all of my lessons with extra activities for unexpected “free” time. These efforts will help ensure that class time is used wisely for furthering education. I feel that the busier I keep my students the less likely they will have time for inappropriate behavior.
Intentional teaching is an approach where teacher’s actions and decisions are deliberate and thought out to ensure specific goals are created to reach specific outcomes in a child’s learning and development (Epstein, 2014). The goal for educating students is still constantly want to improve curriculum, school standards, and teaching styles to teach students effectively. Even though I only observed and taught for a completion of eight hours, I realized as a teacher that I have to be open to change and have the student’s education as the number one priority when teaching. Being in a real classroom really opened my eyes to just how these students are wanting and willing to learn. As a teacher, it is my job to follow the state and district standards to provide the best education for my students just like how I followed the lesson plans for my Junior Teacher lessons. In role play, the learners are assigned roles which they act out within a scenario given by the lecturer. The lecturer must choose a scenario for a role play that gives the learners an opportunity to prepare what they have been taught. The role should also keep the learners interested. A scenario for a role play can be found by things they have encountered in their lives, from a book or a movie. After choosing the scenario for a role play, their learners have to then brainstorm ideas on how the scenario would progress. The lecturer must try to keep the skill set for the role play simple or to a point where the learners can understand. Role plays with problems or arguments in them can be excellent motivators for making the characters in the role play talk. Once the role play has been chosen, the appropriate language use would be next. The use of vocabulary needs to be in sync with the grade level of the role play. The lecturer must then provide the learners with solid information and simple role descriptions. The lecturer then can either ask for volunteers or assign roles in advance, the latter keeps things simple with no time wasted. Finally when the role play is complete, the lecturer will take time to listen to the rest of the learner’s opinions about the play.
Very often, American parents complain that schools are disorderly and undisciplined. They claim that their child’s behavior has worsened and the child is using vulgar language. The case study I will be examining is Case 3 which is a lesson plan named “Molly and her Pilgrim”. This lesson plan is designed for 4th -6th grade Social studies or Language arts and will take about two to three class periods to complete. Special education is no longer restricted to schools that cater for specific disabilities. Increasingly mainstream classrooms must cater for a diverse range of abilities and be inclusive of children with disabilities, therefore providing special education (Heward as cited on Pearson Prentice Hall, 2010). In catering for all children within a class, teachers also need to provide intervention as necessary. Intervention according to Heward (as cited on Education.com, 2011) intends to reduce, eliminate and/or limit the hurdles faced by students with disabilities that may prevent them from maximising their learning and becoming productive members of society. This first part of this module, Effective classroom focus on instruction design. I have learnt various methods to plan, resource, implement, analyze and evaluate teaching. I also recognize the importance of planning in classroom teaching. Although a good planning is a necessary condition for effective teaching, it is not sufficient because students¡¯ responses and behaviours are always unpredictable. Therefore, a well-equipped teacher should have adequate knowledge in classroom management and understand different approaches in solving discipline problems. Certainly, the most important is that teachers should be able to apply appropriate approaches according to different situations. In this portfolio, I will give my personal theory of classroom discipline and teacher-pupil relationship first. Then, my reflection on the topics covered will be included. Moreover, cases from my previous learning and teaching experiences and newspaper will also be used to illustrate the application of various approaches for effective classroom management. Lastly, I will summarize the knowledge, skills and attitudes I learnt in this module and their importance for my professional development as a teacher.

The best way to teach a class anything is to amalgamate various learning methods. This is no different when it comes to social studies or any other subject. An educator needs to rely on all the resources they can get their hands-on. A combination of methods and resources will reach every student and will help them master the new information better. There are many benefits to using different methods/techniques when teaching. One method may not work on a few students where the other method get through to those few. There are numerous educators and scholars who give their own opinions on this topic; which tend to conflict about the correct way to educate students in social studies. There is no right or wrong opinion, it all depends on the students and how they learn. Integrated learning, textbook learning, commercially purchased/technology learning, and teacher prepared learning are all good methods, but when combined they work much better. Designing a curriculum with today’s social studies standards cannot be easy on your own.
We need to continuously assess and evaluate our students so we can set appropriate goals for each student and individual instructions. Each child learns different, so as a teacher we need to have different styles of teaching for positive reinforcement.
