Have you ever wanted to do one project that determines your entire grade? I know I would not. If you mess up once you wouldn't even be able to pass the grade. Most kids would forget they even had an assignment. They won't be tested every 6-8 weeks, which is a great way to show what they learned. It would be too hard on all the students. Being graded periodically is a much better way to grade than one big project. First of all, if you mess up just once you would automatically fail the project. Who would want to fail because of one mistake? Imagine you getting a piece of information wrong, or putting it in the wrong spot. They would be so caught up in hanging out with friends because of tons of free time. It would be insanely hard to remember. Most students would not work on it everyday if they do remember. They would work on it probably once every other day. For the ones that do work it on everyday they would get it done before everyone else and have tons of free time, which is not good for students they will forget everything they learned. It is too much for the students to handle. Lastly, is that the students will not be tested on what they learned. Doing this keeps their mind in check. They will not remember if they just do one big project. Also doing this helps their grade a ton. Instead of doing on big project they would do different work everyday. If they get good grades on all of those they will definitely pass the class with ease. It is very easy compared to just one huge project. The grades will be very good if they don't do the project. Some people say that one big project is a good way to test the students. They say will get a good grade if they pay attention and try their hardest. They say it because the children will have tons of time to get the best information possible, therefore getting a great grade. I do not agree with any of these statements. Using time wisely is very important because the assignment and the teachers and your grades.Sometimes kids would want to horse play and they will never work on there stuff which makes them have a low grade and that causes them to fail that class. There are classes that have shortage of time or the teachers take to long on the same topic and never get to the project. At times there is a few people that have an attitude and that makes the class hold back because of the teacher has to talk to him or her.

Finally some people say the tests are good because they show how the students are doing. Without the tests there is no good way to tell how the students are doing and who needs help. There is too much time spent on testing. There is 20-25 hours a year spent on testing and that does not count practice or learning time. Some may say tests are the best way to show how students are doing but there is still too much time spent on testing.
It would be better for a students mental health to have to deal with a lot of stress due to an assignment less often. Also, when the passing of a class is determined by one or two tests, this prepares students for even bigger tests worth even more when they leave undergraduate school and start graduate school or apply for a competitive job. Having your grade depend on two tests can be very stressful but, this is preparing students for there future. They will begin to get used to high stake tests and learn how to prepare for them which is a necessary skill. Hard work would lead to success if you really put the effort in to the problem. If teachers allow this, it will only hurt the students in the long run because soon they will expect an A just for showing up and not a B. Which make student lazy and not want to work hard to earn the grade but be given the grade just for showing up which is only have the battle. There are many things that can help to get good grades in college possible, doing them is the challenging part. In order to be successful in life, college students should get the best grades by staying organized, taking good notes, and maintain an effective study habit.
Short everyday grades do not help us to retain and keep the information we “learn”. Not only are we having to work for just the grade, short term grades, make students more focused on their GPA rather than getting the full extent of learning they can. With fewer students, it is easier to focus on unique needs and interests, which will help the students significantly. With interest, comes fun, and with fun, comes learning.
When an exam is designed well and has the sole purpose of testing the student’s knowledge on material that was presented during the semester it should expand the student’s knowledge. It should also allow both the teachers and students to see the progress and accomplishments that were achieved during the semester. Good results from exams should encourage students to continue their journey of learning. This puts a large amount of pressure on the teacher to make sure the exam is relevant to the information presented and that students are fully prepared for the exam. (Jensen)
Assessment is a tool used in the classroom every day. It is used to measure a student’s mastery of a skill or knowledge of a given subject. It is also what demonstrates to the teacher what the students have learned. Educators use that information to determine if they need to re-teach to a specific student, group, or the entire class. They can also use that information to determine the rate of their teaching. Assessments are important because, as teachers, we need to know what difficulties our students have and what needs to be refined for them. While I do believe in assessment and feel that it is one of the key components of teaching, I am more concerned with a child’s process of learning rather than the overall product that comes from it. This is where grades come in for me. Grades determine the students’ level of mastery on a subject, nothing more. Grades should not be the exclusive indicators that a student has learned the information that is presented to them. It is the things a student learns along the way that truly matter and sometimes cannot be measured.
Getting children to work together on projects which require problem solving is a great way for them to interact with each other and learn mathematical concepts on the way.
