Every day in my class right before lunch a fellow student and I discuss where we should go to grab some lunch with our brief lunch period. Most places we debate over are greasy and fatty, but we never take that into consideration. We just go where retrieving the food is fast and convenient. When you consider that we both have jobs and school you’d understand how accustomed we are to eating out at such places. Most of the time we have no room in our schedule to work out. In the United States alone there are roughly 14,000 BURGER KING® restaurants (Google), over 25,000 Subway’s (Google), and an outstanding 35,000 McDonald’s restaurants (Google). These young adults know what they are eating is unhealthy but they do not understand what these foods are doing to their bodies. The importance of what people put into their bodies must be further stressed. Perhaps providing a do’s and don’ts list of what to eat when at recruitments. As for the exercise portion, most of the time we don’t realize how the little things can all add up; express the importance of any physical activity, even cleaning the house or riding a bike to school rather than riding the bus. Trying to change the bad habitats of these young adults won’t be easy. The stubbornness of these men and women will not only be their own challenge but our challenge as well. To overcome this obstacle persistence and enforcement will be necessary. Stressing the importance of these changes, not only for eligibility but also for a long healthy life, will only go so far. Throughout the United States many American’s go through and eat at fast food places such as, McDonalds, Burger King, and Jack ‘n the Box. Mainly unaware of the amount of weight one can gain if consuming it on a daily bases or even two times week, can cause health issues, diabetes and possibly obesity. This was the main premise for writer Dave Zinczenko essay Don’t Blame the Eater, who makes an argument that many people are becoming obese and diabetic because of the fast food they eat. He asks a regarding his concern; Shouldn 't we know better than to eat two meals a day in fast-food restaurants?, As a way to engage the general public, like parents and teenagers, he expresses his argument through his own experience when he was a teenager eating at fast food places and information on the fast food industry in regards to how many calories are in the food.

One out of every three Americans is obese, and the majority of these obese people in the United States have eaten regularly at fast food restaurants. As the obesity rate increases, the number of fast food restaurants goes up as well. Although it is not certain, many believe that obesity in the United States is correlated to eating fast food. Since the United States has the highest obesity rate out of any country, it is important for Americans to monitor the fast food industry that may be causing obesity. Having a fast food restaurant so close to their school has played a big part of their weight gain. Yes I have to agree that people do live a very busy life but I do too. A lot of parents believe that cooking a home cook meal will take hours, but in fact it could take the same amount of time as if they would go to a fast food restaurant.
Have you checked your weight today? That’s what we all hear while in the mall or walking near a restroom. A lady speaking those words on a scale where most people continue walking because they’re afraid of the TRUTH. We all have avoid stepping on the scale due to seeing a change in our weight, especially women. Despite, we should face our fears and try to figure out what can we do to change things. Our health is one of the most important things in life. It is a must that we maintain it on a daily basis so that we can live the long, happy, healthy lives that we all deserve. But in reality, we do not take all precautions as we should to survive. As each day pass, I see numerous amount of people who are overweight or obese of all race, age and sex.
Whether people are willing to admit it or not, the desire for convenience is one of the main factors that leads to obesity. In today’s fast-food industry, it’s extremely hard to find food that isn’t “highly processed, full of fat, calories and sodium” (Muntel). While people are recommended to eat an average of 1,500-1,800 calories and around 50-60 grams of fat per day, one can easily take in a whole day’s worth of calories and fat in one fast-food meal. However, people don’t think about this fact while driving past countless fast-food restaurants on their way home from work. One can find anything from a crunchy taco to deep fried chicken all at the same intersection. This abundance of fast-food restaurants makes it no longer necessary to spend hours at the grocery store or even preparing a meal when food for the whole family can be ready in a matter of minutes. This is the perfect time of the year where it is cold and you are bundled up with clothes to start working on getting ready for spring and/or summer. Too many times I see people who want to start to get in shape for the summer when it is April. Hate to tell you people, it takes time to get into shape and it needs to start now! You are ready to hit the gym, you have an awesome workout program available for you but your nutrition is sub par. I do not care if you have the best workout program in the world or the best trainer, if your nutrition sucks, results are not going to happen. Even if you are eating somewhat healthy, it is going to take much longer than it really could if you would just eat clean. I am sure most of you out there bust your butt and give 100% in the weight room but do you give 100% in the kitchen? If you observe students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don’t often see them buying these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans wrapped in tortillas), “burgers” (meat slapped on two slices of bread), etc. Even the chicken nuggets aren’t very popular. And the price is great! $3.75-$4.75 is not worth such “garbage”, as a teacher would say. Out of the 25 students I surveyed, 56% stated that they would like to see their cafeteria changed.

World meat free day was first introduced in 2015 by the United Nations, however has been present in the media during June 2017, where the topic arose of “should Australia be encouraging more meat free days?”. The organisation aims to raise awareness of the impact meat production has on the world, and pledges individuals to skip consuming meat for just one day. Today I hope to change at least one of your opinions on the consumption of meat, and hopefully limit the amount of meat consumed by the population of this classroom. Today, I will be discussing the benefits of reducing meat consumption on individuals, the environment and the animals.
According to some of my friends, their parents buy more unprocessed and local foods rather than the usual processed foods (Mei, Murray). There could also be children, or teens, whose parents simply don’t allow them to eat at a fast-food restaurant quite often. Unfortunately, according to the table below McDonald’s seems to be the fast-food chain restaurant that is targeting the youth the most (see table 1). Nowadays, many parents tend to take their kids to a fast-food restaurant simply because it’s easier and faster to order food then it is to cook an entire meal (Murray). Not only is eating out, or at least take out, efficient, but it’s also less stressful on the parents. Children can tend to be very picky eaters, well most of them at least. My younger cousin for one refuses to eat anything green, unless it’s a cucumber. As we progress more and more into our culture of industrialized eating, we need to consider what we are risking in the long run. There’s actually many different things that not only college students but the entire population could do to help reduce our risks in the long run. For one, it would be to stop eating so frequently at these fast-food restaurants. I know many of my peers, who I went to high school with, would often go to McDonald’s for breakfast before school started. Fortunately, at Denison, it’s not that common for us to go to McDonald’s for breakfast; probably because the closest one is in the next town
