Finally I am ready to be an Early Childhood Educator and just waiting to implement all my learning into my profession. I have passed a long two years of journey to be an Early Childhood Educator and gained knowledge about children’s holistic development, process of their physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and language development. I know how to ensure safety for children. I concern about each and individual child’s health and well being and work collaboratively with my co worker to ensure this. Also in these two years of course, I have learned all guidance strategies that can regulates children’s social and emotional behaviours. All through my placement, I worked with infants to school age children and applied all these guidance strategies and practice over and over. I know different formal and informal observation techniques, and through this observation, I find out children’s developmental stage, their cues, their needs and even child with special needs. I can able to implement planed and spontaneous activities based on children’s interest. Also I am able to give children the inquiry based learning opportunities to investigate. I know the project approach, and agreed that projects provide the backbone of the children’s and teacher’s learning experiences. I influenced by Lev Vygotsky’s “Social Developmental Theory”. He believes that, we learn through our interactions and communications that we have with our peers, teachers, and other experts. Also I influenced by Piaget’s “Stage Theory of Cognitive Development” and Bandura's “Social Learning Theory” that says children learn from one another through imitation, observation and modeling. Also I studied Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences theory and understand children’s uniqueness. All these theories influenced and helped me to understand their developmental stage and
Early childhood education, although constantly evolving, was actually established and practiced as early on as the times of Ancient Greece and Rome. The foundation that early childhood education is based upon is to instill in children the skills needed to succeed later on in life, while making sure young children enjoy their time in schooling. Throughout chapter 3 in the textbook Who Am I in the Lives of Children, the reader is capable of evaluating just how greatly the methods for teaching today’s youth have evolved and changed for the better.
The first few years of a young child’s life, from birth to four years old, are very critical to his/her overall development, due to most of the time, teacher professionals are individuals who play the key and an active role in their early childhood development are teacher professionals who have a passion and a genuine desire to help them learn, grow and succeed in their education. These are just a few roles that early childhood educators plays in the field of early childhood education for working with young children in their early childhood years of life, which the requirements, most of the time, are to have both a formal education and passing teacher-certification score.
Dr. Seuss wrote, “You’re off to great places. Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So get on your Way”. The role of the early childhood educator, while rewarding, can sometimes feel as is you are climbing a mountain. Educators have to consider how to implement curriculum, instruction, management, and technology in the classroom. Educators also have to provide an environment where all children feel safe and nurtured. When creating a course of action, educators have to consider their role as well as the role of the student, parent, and community.
While walking through the front gates of County elementary school, you see children of all ages playing while they wait for the school bell to ring. Walking to the classroom that I will be observing you see students with their parent’s line up waiting to get signed in. The students are to be signed in by a parent or guardian for safety precautions, and shows that the child was signed into school. As a visitor, I am to sign myself in, this shows I was in the classroom, at what time was I there, and reason for visiting the classroom.
How one plans to tackle all of the challenges will help them when making decisions in the future. To many people, early childhood education is unnecessary. I realize that going into this teaching field, I will most likely have to interact with adults who will argue that it is useless. There are a lot of thorny issues surrounding the professionalization of early childhood education (“The Challenges of Professionalizing ECE Workforce”). I am prepared to talk to adults about my beliefs and the importance of the program. Curriculum is the organized framework that explains the content that children are to learn, the processes through which children achieve the identified curricular goals, what teachers do to help children achieve these goals and the context in which teaching and learning occur. The best curriculum for early childhood teacher is developmentally appropriate curriculum that allows teachers to set-up an effective learning environment for children.
Jessica Ball’s article, Improving the reach of early childhood education for First Nations, Inuit and Metis children (2014), delineates the underprovided support the indigenous people have bore at the hand of the Canadian government. The article further explains how this non-existent support, has contributed to the poor conditions the indigenous people are constantly forced to tolerate, as the challenges faced by many Indigenous communities in Canada are well-known and that, in Canada, Indigenous children are less likely to attend ECE programs compared to non-Indigenous children which are a consequence of poor funding and support. However, the article mainly correlates many of the hardships endured by indigenous people due to the lack of quality child care, which may be attainable through proper and substantial funding means and by bringing an awareness to society that there is, in fact, a high demand for government assistance and funding to provide high-quality child care services to indigenous people which will, ultimately, lead to indigenous children’s success in the future. The relevance of this article to the field of ECE is the responsibilities we have as future educators to support families and children during the first several years of development.
The modern early childhood curriculum refers to the experiences gathered throughout a child’s infancy and beyond. It incorporates everyday interactions with family members within a wide spectrum of environments. Such interactions can be spontaneous or structured however, it is important that they are established within a supportive, safe and nurturing setting in order for the child to flourish in terms of their mental and physical ability ( O’Hagen,and Smith (1998). We refer to such a curriculum as Child centered as equal emphasis must be made on the child’s learning through out infancy as it is within a formal education setting.

I believe in the successful development and learning of each, individual child. It is about engaging the student in a way that they feel motivated depending on their level and learning style. Teaching is about constant stimulation of the brain through hands on activities and relating knowledge to real experiences. Students are inspired by teachers in a society where we are rich in culture, constantly engaged, and adopting in a positive dynamic. It is my conviction as a pre-k teacher that each child can learn regardless of their conditions and needs if they have a good foundation and an early intervention. Education begins at the infancy stage and continues on even at the age of independence and adulthood.
As an Early Childhood Educator we need to have self-confidence and have positive self-worth and be able to show that we believe in our ability to perform our job. By having good self-confidence and self-worth it helps us observe our children more accurately and have knowledge when we need to make a decision. Being aware of our expectations of our self and of our children helps us be open minded and it also helps us to grow as a caregiver. I believe that Early childhood educators are also to be respectful and caring to the children in our care. I feel we should remain respectful to the children even when our days may be long and difficult.
Their various theories is based on how the environment can be manipulated and that children can be trained to do anything. The development/learning that takes place will occurs as a result of an accumulation of experiences. One of the most famous learning theory, which is sometimes referred to as the S-R model of learning. The S stands for the stimulus- the factors affecting and intriguing an individual towards learning and exploration of the problem solutions- and the R for the responses to these various stimuli.
It is clearly evident that education and care has a major impact on child development and learning. Both Aistear and Síolta outline the various principles that contribute to help achieving this. Aistear was set up by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) in 2009 and it is The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework. Its aims are to provide challenging and enjoyable experiences that help children to grow and develop as a competent and confident learner within loving and nurturing relationships (NCCA, 2009).
My mission in life is to offer and provide quality Early Head start Education to children with Special needs. As a mother with a child with Autism there wasn’t any where to have him get childcare, I want to be that link. Helping parents during the struggle of finding out your child has the disabilities could be heart reaching I feel it is my mission to be that back bone for them. By learning the importance of the student’s character, it will assist me in learning how to assist them with what they can do on the level of their character. I have been working in childcare/ preschool setting for the past 6 years and I have found my passion.
Growing up being the oldest of 5 I know the challenges that it takes to look after a young child and the skills needed to keep a child entertained and focused. I have always enjoyed working and looking after children and watching them thrive and develop in what they do. The satisfaction of helping a child and seeing them succeed is what has motivated me to want to study child education. Whilst studying psychology at A-level it has given me a deeper understanding on the critical need for a child to be in an environment which helps them develop and function in society properly.
