The program model addresses the dropout problem through assisting troubled students and their families. Families often have difficulty accessing and navigating through the maze of public and private services. School-based coordinator, bridge the gap between local resources and the public school setting, where they are accessible, coordinated and accountable. Site Coordinators are the single point of contact and fill a pivotal role, working inside the school to provide integrated student services. Site coordinators connect students and families with community partners and resources that address both academic and nonacademic needs. The Site Coordinator works with the school staff and identifies students at risk of dropping out. Through assessing the school and student needs Site Coordinators establish community relationships with social service agencies, health care providers and volunteers. The Site Coordinator works with volunteers, partners and the local community to provide students with the resources they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Communities in Schools is cost-effective, providing a comprehensive range of community services. Each year our affiliates report outcomes, as well as monitor and adjust services. Communities in Schools is an evidence-based organization; delivering the human, financial, and community resources to help children succeed in school and achieve in life. CIS collects their data through Track-CIS, a national database that is customized for CIS. This data is then reviewed by the southern Nevada management team to ensure CIS is on track to meet performance measures. The CIS logic model has substantively important positive effects on credit completion, academics and attendance, and is unique among other dropout prevention programs in both reducing dropout and increasing on‐time graduation rates for high schools. The recommendations presented serve to refine program strategies for CIS’ dropout prevention program. The findings will help guide the program to focus on areas that are most crucial for effective service delivery. Additionally, this evaluation will use the findings to improve needed support for effective implementation of the CIS model across the network and to ensure that healthy operations are maintained at the state, community partners, and site levels. Finally, findings from this evaluation will be used for future evaluations.
