I have recently been consolidated to a new dorm in Shearer Hall and there are a few problems I would like to address. During and after our consolidation, my roommate and I felt disrespected and unfairly treated. After this experience, I would like to suggest a few policy changes to the current room change and consolidation process.
On the evening of February 13th of this semester, my roommate received an email stating we had 72 hours as of the 14th to move out of our current dorm and have it ready for inspection. We were informed that there was a possibility we would be consolidated with another room, or we would have two roommates moved in. On February 14th, we received our keys to the new dorm, but we were told we were scheduled for checkout on Thursday evening. In the policy, it is suggested that first round of consolidation should happen by the third week of school, although it could happen up to 8 weeks through the semester. We had to move when we were already one third through the semester, which is the 6th week. Not only was it so late in the semester, it was in the middle of the week. As a student, we should be concerned with our school work and not with packing and moving everything we own while also deep cleaning a dorm. I would like to make two suggestions regarding this problem. First, I would suggest that rooms that is already known to have half occupancy to be moved before the semester starts. I understand that this is not plausible for all consolidations, but it can be done for rooms where roommates move out at the end of the previous semester. Secondly, I would suggest that if a resident must be moved out during the semester that they are given more time to move out and maybe give them the weekend to move instead of the middle of the school
In school we are always taught about the lighter parts of Canadian History, but only until recently have Canadian students been taught about the darker parts of our history. Residential Schools were included in these dark parts of Canada’s history. In the 19th century, the Canadian government believed that Residential Schools were responsible for educating and caring for the country’s aboriginal people. Our literature review consisted of six scholarly articles that were studies done on students who were going into college. The first article that we found focused on how important communication is when it comes to making friends. McEwan & Guerrero (2010) talked about the benefits of communication before getting to know someone. We based our questions off of this article regarding communication in order to find out about roommate interactions.

Ames Room Essay An Ames room is a distorted room that is used to create an optical illusion. It was created by an American ophthalmologist named Adelbert Ames, Jr. in 1934. The same room wasn’t constructed until the following year in 1935. It tricks people into being ordinary cubic shaped, but the true shape of this room is trapezoidal since the walls are slanted and the ceiling and the floor are inclined. As a result of the optical illusion, a figure or person standing in one corner appears to the person looking through the hole of the room( box) to be very big, while the other figure or person standing in the other corner appears to be too little.
I have done this by having group bonding activities often as well as appearing warm and welcoming to all, especially those who do not appear at our activities in order to make them feel included at all times. If made a Resident Assistant, I plan to go further than this and try to encourage the residents to open their doors more often in order to appear more welcoming to each other. I will also keep working hard on inventive group bonding activities. I find that more work can always be done in order to create lasting bonds between residents. Most importantly, I have grown to understand that even though we refer to our residence halls as our dorm, or simply “school”, the truth of the matter is that these residence halls and the college itself, is our home. At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.

Galileo Galilei was very meddlesome when it came to the scientific community. He is one of the world’s most renowned and possibly greatest scientist that contributed to the scientific revolution. Galileo’s thirst for knowledge was not necessarily a good thing, due to his devotion for science, he was condemn from the Catholic Church (Michael N. Marcus) and alienated for not fitting social norms; ironically becoming an outcast of the society he was trying to better. Using one of the worlds all time horror classics Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, and one of the greatest films of all time Forrest Gump, they both show us how the pursuit of what is known to the individual as the best and correct course of action could be truly dangerous. While Galileo was motivated by his commitment to the truth, both Forrest Gump and Frankenstein’s monster are driven by love and a childlike desire to explore the world around them. Ironically, acting on love, care, and innocence would have nearly accurately been portrayed by Bon Scott as a “highway to hell” (AC/DC).
As I thought of this article, many of the issues I have faced as a single Hmong woman in her mid-twenties came to mind. Should I discuss the functional reasons why marriage is so important in the Hmong culture, especially for women? Or do I talk about the lack of eligible, older Hmong men? Better yet, should I complain about the attempts by my relatives to find me a good husband as if it were an unfortunate circumstance that I was single instead of a conscious choice? Thinking it over, though, I decided that all those questions boiled down to one fundamental truth – the Hmong community is still trying to learn how to treat the increasing number of Hmong women who, like me, are making the choice to stay single in their mid-twenties.
A very common concern that faces many high school students today in the world is whether they go to college or not. There are many factors in whether a student is eligible to attend a college or not. They have to have enough money to cover the cost, prepare early, and choosing what they want to attend college for. These are some of the many issues that might occur when a student starts to think or plan on going to a college.
As a student of East Texas Baptist University living in centennial residence hall is difficult. I having to ask people to use their kitchen just to make a simple thing like waffles. I even want at least peace and quiet without my roommates being loud with visitors. Living in centennial or any of the other dorms is not the same as being able to live on your own where you have time to yourself. After my freshman year I was trying to live off campus because these dorms are really expensive. At East Texas Baptist University you have to be 21 to live off campus unless living with a parent. I believe that since you are able to do other things at the age of 18 you should be able to live off campus on your own.
I registered for classes the day registration opened and got a low number meaning I had a chance of getting a single room. However, I didn't get one and I had a mental breakdown, crying and shaking. I had to go to counseling for a while, maybe a week. Eventually I compromised for having a suite with people who were all music majors. I figured that if I couldn't have a single room, the next best thing would be to room with people who share a common goal.
