Effectively communicating is the most important part of organizational change. The most difficult part of communication is that successful communication is not achieved through words alone. There is a strategy for effectively communication. This paper will identify several strategies and address each of the benefits and disadvantages.
The “spray and pray” strategy involves communicating excessive amounts of information from management. There is so much information provided it becomes difficult for employees to recognize the key topics that affect their roles in the organization. Developmental change that is planned and happens over a period of time requires face-to-face involvement so that employees are made aware of the organizations vision. The transition will be over a period of time, which will require additional meetings to update employees. “Task-forced” changes are typically delivered from upper management down. A “emphasis is placed on formal communication processes such as e-mail, broadcasts, and memos” (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009, pg. 306). The “charismatic transformations” require more personal communication style. Management must find ways to help engage two-way communication, which will engage the employees. This communication style is a more sensitive and personal approach. And finally “turn-around transformations” require a direct communication where employees are told their duties. Today workers have more discretionary power and are allowed to make independent decisions during the course of their work. This is essential part of meeting clients’ expectations and ensuring quality of the service. Understandably, the requirement of assuming greater responsibility through making key decisions is an additional source of pressure upon the workers. One thing all successful employees have to share is what we call adaptability to the changes. It is very important that today’s employees can make quick decisions on spot, address the needs of the clients, solve any possible tensions and ease frustrations, and then continue performing work-related responsibilities. However, Mallak (1998) notes that the majority of workers is unable to performs these functions on practice, as he believes many lack adequate training and/or preparation.

On the same note, anything that hinders effective communication is bound to have a negative effect not only on the specific message delivery, but also on the overall success of a career. In this paper, some of the barriers to effective business communication are discussed, with a few examples of how they affect the process.
Hayes (2014), encourages change managers to keep an open line of communication with employees. Although these ones may not agree or support the upcoming change, they value the information being given to them at the onset and may eventually tolerate or accept the change. Therefore, it is important for change managers to not only communicate with employees, but provide relevant information, as the quality of the communication is of the utmost importance.
