A girl’s last dance, getting ready may be the hardest, but getting there on time can be even more difficult. Sitting in the chair while looking at myself in the mirror. I can feel my mom tugging on my hair, trying to get the knots out. I feel the heat of the curling iron on the back of my neck. The sweet scent of hairspray lingers in the air from her coating my curls. The feeling of mascara rub against my eyelashes, I can taste the tender tip of the lipstick against my lips. I can see the rosary in my cheeks coming out from the blush. Now that I look pulchritudinous, it is time to meet my handsome date. When we arrived at his house I saw him standing in the driveway. He looked so handsome in his dark black coat and light blue vest. When …show more content…
“I swear dad it’s right on fort street”, my date said. His dad wasn’t believing him until I saw the sign and pointed it out. Upon arriving at the scene we exited the vehicle and i could already smell the aroma of perfume and cologne in the air. I saw several of our friends and we went to meet them. We entered and sat with a few of my old friends I could already smell the food. After sitting down I ran to the bathroom to freshen up. Once I entered it was a rush of senses. The sound of toilets flushing, smells of perfumes differentiating from my own, the mob of girls in the mirror applying everything from lipstick to lashes, and I could taste the hairspray in the …show more content…
The entire senior class all three hundred plus of us in alignment for the cupid shuffle. At this time I took time to admire all of my friends dresses. Such vivid colors, reds, blues, whites, blacks, pinks, yellows, and even oranges. It was an incredible view, but the song was begining and i had to get ready. I could feel my flats sliding on the dance floor so I quickly took them off and jumped back in my spot. We were all moving as a group right, right, right right, left, left, left, left, kick, kick, kick, kick, and then walk it out and turn. With each step it was more fun I looked to my date, I could see the glisten in his blue eyes. The smell of his cologne still lingering on my dress. The taste of his lips now as they met mine. I hear nothing but silence, I can feel the vibrations on the floor from the music but it is as if the world was standing still. It is a perfect moment one that will vividly live in my thoughts for as long as I live. As the dance comes to an end we hug our friends and say our goodbyes. This was truly a wonderful night for a girls last
Waving to my teammates as I walked out of the tennis courts, the reminiscence of a smile appeared on my face after winning a close match. A freshman teammate joined me and I heard her take a deep breath as soon as we were out of others’ earshot, muttering something nervously. “I’m sorry, what was that?” I asked a little too loudly, the excitement still buzzing. She mustered courage and made sure to speak clearly this time: “I’m being bullied, and I feel so trapped that I only see self-harming as my way out.”
Kate's family had rented out a ballroom in a neighborhood country club, and we intended to dance the night away. As I approached the scene, disco lights streamed through the large windows and ran all over the lawn. Music enveloped the parking lot as my adrenaline began to elevate. I sauntered in, waving to my friend...
In the heart of Miami, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) dance majors put on a performance called The Art of Dance. Under the direction of Michelle Grant- Murray, guest choreographers challenged the students of MDC. The students were also able to exhibit their own work, as this was also their student choreography showcase. The evening consisted of diverse styles such as – African, contemporary, and world dance; unfortunately, I cannot say the all of the pieces impressed me.
After the ceremony, we head out to the venue at the Chamber of Commerce. I headed in the room and saw golds, different shades of green and purple, masks all around, I knew my Mardi Gras theme came to life. I hear the music playing in the background while the DJ announced my name making my grand entrance. Typically at this time, I danced the waltz with my court of honor, this is made up by fifteen boys and fifteen girls of my closest friends and cousins and a young man of my choosing to be my escort. I could feel all eyes and attention were on me. Butterflies take over my stomach as I told myself, " I have been practicing this waltz for weeks I know every step so there is nothing to be nervous about." The music begins and the crowd roars and
...arate occasions; first time in the late nineties, as a betrothed, migrating temporarily to the western state; second time four years later, a ring added, and everything else the same. She lured me into her sensuous web with promises of heathen desire. Now U2 plays and other memories from my teens and early twenties come as I race across streets, bang on cars, rush to join a crowd that I no longer see, so keen and now … different. The girl, English accent, cute in my shirt, stands on the front porch after one of the many sexual expeditions, a relationship based on sex, drunken sex, never sober, and I have the customary cigarette while two other friends sit inside my shadowy glow. They feel my passion, or the remnants.
The first major figure’s in ballet according to the textbook name is Catherine de’ Medici. She is important because she married into France and brought a few dance masters along with her which effectively started court ballet. Another Major figure of ballet was King Louis 14th. He established the first academy of dance along with having a huge love for dance, thus giving huge state support to dance. Another reason Louis instituted ballet was a political, instead of fighting people would dance. Finally, King Louis was considered the first ballet star. The next person who has influenced ballet’s name is Marie Salle. She is famous for being very talented along with being the first female choreographer. It had been a fairly good week. I received an A on another one of Mr. Jackson’s exams, and completed another week of eighth grade basketball ‘practice’, which in my case consisted of standing against the wall watching the starters run the plays. It was only my first year playing, so I was just enjoying being on the team with my friends. But that weekend was to be unlike most others in my past. I was attending my aunt’s wedding downtown. I was to watch my aunt, who I had known my whole life, and her boyfriend, who I had known for about 3 years, commit to each other the rest of their lives before the audience of people they knew the best. The last wedding I had attended, in 2004, was a very different experience for me. I was younger and knew less about how the world
The topic I decided to choose to conduct my Capstone Research on is Copyright in Choreographic Works. Choreography is “Choreographers use dance performances to express ideas and stories. There are many types of dance, such as ballet, tango, modern dance, tap, and jazz (bls.gov). Choreography is also something that should be made from the heart, it’s not something that should be taken from someone else because at that point, it wouldn’t be considered your choreography and it wouldn’t be something you made from your own mind and creativity. Dancing is something you have a passion for and you show your emotions through your movements, so there shouldn’t be a need to copy. The problem now is, many choreographers are starting to steal choreography
Individuals can experience release, whether from worldly cares or from physical tension, through the marvelous art form of ballet. Hence ballet, in its many aspects, has much to offer individuals and can be seen reflecting to many Western ideals through this art. Most people often find ballet just appealing to the eye and are just seen watching it be performed. Have you ever wondered what influenced ballet and where it came from? Ballet is reflective of Western ideals in many ways whether it is culturally, politically and aesthetically. Not only is ballet used to appeal to the eye and experience release from worldly cares, but also to demonstrate some sort of history and reflect Western ideology.
Ballet, What is it? It definitely is not just a girl twirling around in a tutu. Although that is what most people see it as. It is form of expression and is considered an art because with performance there is a story being told.
One of the eloquent expressions of the art of dance pertains to ballet. In which individuals fuse to perform choreography depicting emotions and the stories of others. Renowned pieces of ballet include the performances Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Giselle and A Midsummer’s Night Dream (Schiesl). The individuals within the ballet community form a discourse community, as members engage in common practices to reach similar achievements.
I went to the dance. The day I was planning all along. When I got there my step-sister, Ashely was in the arms of my crush. I always thought he was different but I guess not. Maybe that guess came from because I never see him and never cared about what he is doing. She liked the year’s dance theme. It’s the masquerade ball. She was wore her mask so no one who recognize her. This was the day where she show what she’s got. She marched right to the DJ booth and gave her iPod. Then, people were confused stared at others and asking where this type of music is coming from. Cinderella started to dance with her heels on. Many people were amazed of Cinderella’s dance. She did jazz, hip-hop and many different dances.
I pulled into the driveway and staggered into the loud, large and mysterious place. I was surprised at how many people were there. It could have been about twenty or so. I would not know because I am not highly educated. My education actually collapsed after being involved with you. I put all my attention and focus towards you. I can’t count the amount of times I missed class or skipped school. Whilst thinking of this, a young girl came strolling over. She had dark, long hair, brown eyes and a slim figure nearly identical to my own appearance. She wore a white garment matched with pure, silk shoes. Her glamour attracted people from all directions. She looked about twenty five years old.
“Dance, the art of precise, expressive, and graceful human movement, traditionally, but not necessarily, performed in accord with musical accompaniment. Dancing developed as a natural expression of united feeling and action.”
Then, I heard everyone scream “Surprise!” I could not believe my eyes. There was decoration all over the living room, a cake on the table, music and a big bouquet of pink flowers. My eyes start tearing. I was delighted and humbled by how lucky I was to have such an amazing family. I ran up to my parents, my three brothers, and sisters in law and hugged all of them. We started singing and dancing I cannot forget those moments of my life. Then I realized time was running and that I still had to go to my cousin’s house to do my makeup. I rushed to her house leaving my family at home, so they could get ready, and we could later celebrate after the graduation. As, Sandra was putting on my makeup; I was thinking of how I was going to react when they called my name on the stage. I was smiling as I was thinking of the moment of my
