Describing How a Business Works
Introduction
For this unit I will give a clear description of the activity, aims
and objectives of my chosen business, a description of four functional
areas of the business including human resources. Descriptions of the
equal opportunities of employees are safeguarded by legislation, an
explanation of different functional ways to communicate with each
other and external contact.
The company I have chosen for this unit is Tesco the reason I chose
Tesco is because it is a very successfully growing company. Tesco is
public limited company (Plc). (Means that any one can be shareholder)
Public limited companies are the largest type of privately owned
enterprise in the UK. Tesco sells Groceries, cloths, CDs, videos,
DVDs, books, computer games, electrical, school equipment, wines and
other alcohol drinks.
Tesco offers finances such as loans, credit cards, savings, flexible,
and mortgages, travel money. They also offer insurance such as motor
insurance, home insurance, life insurance, pet insurance, travel
insurance and breakdown cover. One of the other services they offer is
Internet shopping, making shopping much easier for customers. Tesco
all so has an in store pharmacy. Throughout out years Tesco’s in store
pharmacy grown in to one of the country’s leading pharmacy chains.
Tesco is currently the leading supermarket in UK. Tesco as a pretty
good competition from other supermarket such as Sainsbury, Safeway.
But Tesco is cheaper then mot of the other supermarkets and they offer
lot more products. Recording to Tesco on average sainsbury’s is 4%
more expensive then Tesco and Safeway are 10% m...

This essay will focus on two companies Tesco and Chester Zoo. I am writing an essay to identify and describe these two companies. I will look at their ownership and explain how the businesses are organized to achieve their purposes. I will also compare both of them to find out the differences between these two companies.
The supermarket Tesco operates in the tertiary sector which is where all the final products are sold to customers for a price higher than production to make company profits, they can also be part of the secondary sector which is the way they sell their own products which come under the Tesco brand.
Tesco is a public limited business and therefore is in the tertiary sector as it provides a service to the public, this means that the business is owned by many shareholders. Tesco sell their shares on the stock exchange and are number one out of its competitors in terms of number of shareholders. Having a high amount of shareholders means that the business needs to make and retain profit levels high so that they trust and gain loyalty to the
Tesco must also follow their statutory duty which ensures that their employees have adequate welfare facilities. Employees also have specific duties they got to follow by law which includes them to take reasonable care for health and safety for them and the people around them, they must also co-operate with the employer or any other person to enable the employer or other person to perform or comply with any legal requirements.
Tesco is trying to gain as high profits as they can because company investors or shareholders might thing about investing more money in to the business because of its success and development. Tesco wants to make its investors satisfied because it may affect business future.
The marketing department advertise for Tesco in hope of getting more customers. They could advertise through the TV, newspaper and online. This would have a positive impact on Tesco international expansion because they would be reaching possible future customers faster. The chain of command is really important in Tesco as it away to pass information around the organisation.
