The two organisations I will be discussing are Tesco and NSPCC. Tesco is a well-known international business, with over ‘500,000 people’ hired to work in 12 different countries as well as having ‘over 80 million shopping trips over a week.’ They have over ‘7800’ stores and franchises globally indicating its place in the supermarket industry.
Its core business is based in the UK, this is due to its vast rate of expansion, which is also expanding to other countries. Tesco first started as a food business but now has grown into other areas such as the Telecoms industry, clothing industry as well as many more, allowing them to be a well-known business. This strategy stabilises a gradual growth in terms of revenue for the business. Tesco’s objective is to be the ‘champion for customers’, and they want to achieve this by being number one in customer satisfaction. They want to grow globally and by doing this they ‘create value for customers to earn their lifetime loyalty’. Tesco is Tesco is a public limited business and therefore is in the tertiary sector as it provides a service to the public, this means that the business is owned by many shareholders. Tesco sell their shares on the stock exchange and are number one out of its competitors in terms of number of shareholders. Having a high amount of shareholders means that the business needs to make and retain profit levels high so that they trust and gain loyalty to the
business. The National Society for the prevention of cruelty to children (NSPCC) is located in four countries; England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. This means that it is a National business. Their aim is to ‘help parents, professionals’ prevent any harm to children. NSPCC visited many schools to expand their awareness, they even managed to get hold an international footballer who played for England, Lucy Bronze. This gives the business awareness, which in the long term allows them to generate profit through donations. They have also managed to go to nearly 15,000 schools which furthermore allowed them to grasp 1 million young children. They have also had 300,000 counselling sessions which shows the vast amount of children in need for help, emphasising its aim. The business is run by a group of members including paid employees as well as volunteers and rely on the kindness. The NSPCC is in the tertiary sector as it provides a service to the public which results too many fundraising events which is key for being more aware to the public as well as generating cash for the business. They also offer counselling sessions as well as a hotline where it is open ‘24 hours a day, 365 days a year’. NSPCC have 2500 paid workers as well as having 1700 volunteers which shows the magnitude of how big the charity is, by having that many unpaid staff must benefit them as they don’t need higher expenses and more money can go into the running of the charity and help out more young children who is in need of some sort of aid. Taxation has a huge impact on organisations, especially Tesco's, as some of their products have increased on tax. Some products have increased in tax because it is considerate for the government such as for the economy, healthy living and the environment. Due to an increase of tax on certain products not many people will agree with the price they are paying for these specific products and/or services. Tesco’s aspiration for multinational status had proved successful. Just about any country they chose to do business in ultimately made them the world’s third largest retailer. Their niche, however, was in emerging economies and they had entered all the emerging economies of the world that they felt were of importance. Japan for many years had been an interest because it was known to be the second largest retail market in the world. When the two existing supermarket chains went up for sale, Tesco decided it was time for entry into the Japanese retail market. Eight years later Tesco would learn its lessons on the uniqueness of the Japanese culture.
