This essay will focus on two companies Tesco and Chester Zoo. I am writing an essay to identify and describe these two companies. I will look at their ownership and explain how the businesses are organized to achieve their purposes. I will also compare both of them to find out the differences between these two companies.
Tesco is the largest retailer in UK. emphasize doing the right things for their client, co-workers and communities all of them are stakeholders. Tesco is a huge company. Its scope of business is very wide it is not just a supermarket. Tesco have got some subsidiary for examples: Tesco Bank, Dunnhumby, Home plus and Tesco Czech Republic etc.All of Tesco's subsidiary are tertiary. Tesco Bank is a company which sells the goods like the saving plan, insure and credit cards, they will also provide some services like 24 hours a day and online it is convenient for the customers to make inquiries at any time by using internet, telephone or mobile phone. In addition, the biggest part of business in Tesco is the supermarket it has branches around the world and the products that they sell are all manufactured products like biscuits, paper towels, chocolates and drinks etc. The rest subsidiaries of Tesco are also the companies which sell the manufactured products or the service so that's why Tesco is a tertiary. According to the preliminary result 2013/14 of Tesco their group sales (Inc. VAT) is £70,894m and according to preliminary result 2012/13 of Tesco their statutory profit before tax £1,960m.Thus it can be seen Tesco is a big international public limited company. Tesco is a public limited company which is able to sale the shares to general public.
And there are some advantages of a public limited company such as there is limited liability for the shareholders which mean the maximum losses that will cause are the amount that the shareholders invested in that company it won’t cause more than that so for the investor the risk is limited. Other than that the public limited company’s potential capital that they can raised is large they can raise fund by selling shares or borrow from bank. Also public limited company is easier to obtain financing because most of the banks and financial institution would like to invest to the larger company just like PLC. PLC have high continuity although the helm of company step down the company can still operating normally because shareholder can transfer their shares to anyone. There are many advantages of PLC but it still have some disadvantages for instance :PLC must make public annual financial report of the company also if the company close the liquidator must be realize the all assets to distribute to all creditors and shareholders. So the owner of Tesco are those people who bought the shares of Tesco. Furthermore, every year Tesco will held the annual general shareholders meeting. Tesco will report the annual accounts, strategic report and directors' report etc. to the shareholders in the meeting. Therefore the shareholders of Tesco can have more information and data to grasp more about …show more content…
Tesco. There are some benefits for Tesco to be a PLC company. Tesco is a diversification company to expended such a large company must spend a lot of funds but that is not enough for just rely on selling shares to raise funds they must borrow money from the bank to build enough funds for their operating and that is easier to get the bank credit approval for a PLC because it is low risk for a bank to borrow money for a PLC to compare with the other types of company and the debts are bear from all shareholders but the will just bear the part of debts which is same as their investment for that company there are no anybody is responsible for all debts of a PLC so that's why PLC is limited liability. There are one disadvantage for a PLC, PLC needs to publish their annual accounts as Tesco will publish the annual accounts in the annual general shareholders meeting every year. Tesco's main sources of capital are come from the shareholders and the creditor. It is a good way to raise fund by selling the shares because the company don't need to repay the funds which is earn by selling shares and company can also make a choice of distribute dividends to shareholders or not. Tesco aim to make the customers reinforce the sense of belonging for Tesco. Michelle McEttrick the director of Tesco said they are aimed to bring “more warmth” (Tesco, 2015) to Tesco brand so they produced a advertising to help them to convey this idea to their customers. Tesco has a national charity partnership with Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation. Tesco is a company which is supporting local communities. Also they have some event which helps to protect the environment and reduce the pollution such as “carbon footprint” it is a system which helps to reduce 0.3% carbon emissions year on year and they will use the solar PV and wind to produce the renewable electronic which can reduce the environmental damage. The second company that I need to focus on is Chester Zoo. Chester Zoo founded in 1931 at Upton by George Mottershead. George hoped he could own a zoo which is without bars. Finally, he did it Chester Zoo have become the first zoo without bars. Now there are over 400 different species and over 12,000 animals in Chester Zoo. It is the most famous zoo in the U.K. Chester Zoo is a company which take care the animals and let the visitor to know more about the animals. They will held some workshop to let the visitor to have close contact with the animals and there will have a guide which will tell the information to those visitor. There are only one Chester Zoo in Chester. It didn't get any branch and it is a registered conversation and education charity. Chester Zoo employ 336 people for the basis number of employees and the number may increase in different season. In 2014, there are 626 employees. The total funds of Chester Zoo in 2013 are £31,519,000 and in 2014 had increase to £34,864,000. Prof Peter Wheel is Chester Zoo's Chair of Trustees, Mrs Rebecca Burke-sharples is the Vice Chair of Chester Zoo and Dr Mark Pilgrim is the director general of Chester Zoo.
The charity trustee is also the people who are responsible for everything that happens in the zoo. As the zoo is a charity it cannot have debts Chester Zoo is a tertiary company. It's business is take care the animals and service the visitors. The legal structure of Chester Zoo is charity. Chester Zoo is a company which provide the conversation and education charity such as they will donate the tickets to some organisation and the registered charities who help or support Chester Zoo's mission which is to protect the animals to protect the biological diversity in world. They will also donate the tickets to the local school and the local registered community groups. And Chester Zoo does publish its annual
accounts. Chester Zoo's main source of capital are come from the donation. Chester Zoo is a wildlife conservation charity. Their aim is to protect the biodiversity worldwide so Chester Zoo will held some activities to raise donation such as Barnardo's Big Toddle Sponsored Walk which is a charity event held in 2014. Chester Zoo have got an environment policy which include Green Roof , environment management plan. Green Roof is means to grow plants such as Sempervivum, Arabis and a range of grasses on the rooftop it can help to reduce heat loss and energy consumption. Furthermore, the environment management plan is about how Chester Zoo reduce the use of energy such as they will look the temperature to decide do they need to keep the temperature of the room in 24 hours also they will use the natural light instead of using the light bulbs in the small room. In conclusion, Tesco and Chester Zoo are different types of company. However, they still got something similar such as both of them have got some policy which can reduce the pollution although they did not have the same aims.
Tesco is a Public limited company (PLC), which means it is owned by shareholders and it is in the private sector Also known as the for-profit sector and Activities outside the public sector organizations and businesses that provide services and products based on market demands for a cost with the purpose of producing a profit for owners and shareholders in the organisations. Tesco is the biggest employer in the UK with over 250,000 employees and over 1,800 stores.
Tesco is a public limited business and therefore is in the tertiary sector as it provides a service to the public, this means that the business is owned by many shareholders. Tesco sell their shares on the stock exchange and are number one out of its competitors in terms of number of shareholders. Having a high amount of shareholders means that the business needs to make and retain profit levels high so that they trust and gain loyalty to the
Have you ever seen an animal sitting in a cage all alone with nothing to do. Well, zoos are trying to change that fact. They will allow the animals to live in an environment that is like their home. Many people don't realize this, but zoo are keeping and breeding these animals because they would not survive in the wild alone. In the three passages, ¨The Stripes Will Survive,¨ ¨The Zood Go Wild from No More Dodos,¨ ¨Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment.¨ All of these articles present one claim, that is that the role of zoos is no longer to keep animal, but to protect them.
Peoples Trust article “Zoos & Conservation” touched surface solely on zoos located in Britain. What about the rest of the world? Luckily there is a group called the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) that inspects zoos and aquariums making sure that they are fit for conservation. For instance, the Giza Zoo In Cairo was shut down for killing two gorillas that may have been infected with disease and for extra pay putting visitors in danger so they could pet any animal they requested. Now if one of these animals were to attack a visitor then they would put down the animal in which is just doing what its instincts tell them.
Considering the many challenges animals face in the wild, it is understandable that people may be eager to support zoos and may feel that they are protective facilities necessary for animal life. In the article “ Zoos Are Not Prisons. They Improve the Lives of Animals”, Author Robin Ganzert argues that Zoos are ethical institutions that enrich the lives of animals and ultimately protect them. Statistics have shown that animals held in captivity have limited utilitarian function resulting in cramped quarters, poor diets, depression, and early death for the animals thus, proving that Zoos are not ethical institutions that support and better the lives of animals as author Robin Ganzert stated (Cokal 491). Ganzert exposes the false premise in stating
Australia Zoo is a private company held by Steve Irwin which has more than 100 species on display. It is affected by organization and competitorforces from micro environment, also, economic and natural forces from macro environment.
The history of change regarding the varying displays of animals has been gradual yet profound. A clear shift has been evident surrounding the role and nature of a zoo’s position within society. When assessing zoological history it seems that there are three distinct phases. From the early collections where animals were kept and used for religion, hunting and entertainment to the private menageries in which wild animals were contained as a sign of wealth, dominance and privilege and more recently the development of zoos as modern ins...
Tigers, lions, giraffes, and other exotic animals are rarely seen in the wild. However the public, without humans and/or animals being harmed at the same time, can see exotic animals when a zoo opens. Zoos for many are a wonderful experience, but to others they see the animals as being treated poorly and not able to roam free. These people do not consider the beneficial sides of zoos. Zoos around the world help species that have been endangered by protecting and caring for them. Otherwise they would have became extinct and killed for their valuable fur or feathers. Zoos were created for a purpose that needed to be filled. If there were no purpose for them they would have not been created. Zoos are needed and if there is a need in this world, the spot will most likely be filled without hesitation. Some zoos were not trained properly and do not treat their animals very well. Some bad zoos do not feed their animals enough and keep them in a confined cage. Although some zoos are harmful for both animals and people, many of them are good zoos and take care of their animals better than most people take care of them selves. It is amazing to be able to see such care and love are associated with zoos. Not only do zoos help the endangered animals they also help people learn to respect such amazing creatures. Zoos are a good attribute to society because they promote education, research, protect, conserve, and outlook.
They are highly skilled in areas of design, technology, training, and research and development. In addition, Tesco has a superior presence in the area of manufacturing.
Zoos, there are more than 10,000 in the world and more than 700 million people visit them annually each year (AZA). Some people go for entertainment, some go for work, and some go for studies. These facilities are normally owned by government, cities, or privately owned. Zoos are able to exist because of taxpayers, grants, funds, and annual visitors that come to zoos. One question has been lingering around about zoos though do they really benefit animals or are they human entertainment? This report will examine the effects of zoos on animals, on employment, and on the economy.
For hundreds of years, eager visitors have journeyed to see animals from various parts of the Earth. Zoological institutions have been provided a place where both wild animals and humans can convene in a controlled manor. A zoo’s purpose is to conserve wild animals’ lives, educate visitors, and provide a site where wild life research can readily take place (Demartoto). Many hold a positive view on zoos. Some believe that zoological institutions provide a safe environment for animals and provide the animals with the best care. However, many find zoos to be guilty of stealing animals’ freedom and dignity. Animal welfare has become a major issue within zoological institutions. The question of whether or not zoos are actually
The park had animals such as deer, and grizzly bear and 120 other animals. Now, Henry Doorly Zoo is a home to over 17,000 animals, and different 962 species. However, with all of these different animals in the zoo, it upsets the animals’ native ecology. Even under the best circumstances at the best zoos, a zoo cannot start to replicate the wild animals’ habitat. Where a wild animal is free to roam and explore the world, one in a zoo is confined to a small area. Also, Zoos claim to want to protect species from extinction, but usually the zoos just want animals because they are exotic or popular. These exotic animals are put into an unnatural environment and upsets their native ecology. A zoo wants these exotic animals primarily for the purpose of promoting tourism and generating money. Zoos claim to want to protect species from extinction, which sounds good on the surface, but in reality only want to draw crowd and publicity. Also zoos claim that they are helping repopulate an endangered or exotic species, but the animals in the zoo are never going to return to the wild. Animals in the wild have to survive on a daily basis. They need to hunt, or gather food, and avoid predators. Animals in the zoos never experience any of this and would not survive in the
Every year, the zoo offers a number of classes to volunteers and students that are based solely on the handling of their animals, how people can help in the world, and can put people face-to-face with the animals to form a bond. The zoo has 126 animals that are used to aide in educational demonstrations, and this is in addition to the animals they show in the exhibits. Annually the zoo educates approximately 215,000 people with nearly 80.5 thousand hours of volunteer service provided. Their education system is important to the health of all their animals because it displays the time and effort dedicated to the care of the animals they have there. They also conduct daily exercises and training with the animals to make sure they are receiving enough exercise. A large chunk of all funding that the zoo receives go directly to the buying of food for the animals. They all eat different types of food sources to maintain healthy diets that relate to what they would consume in their original habitat. The zoo pushes the community, and it’s researchers/vets/trainers to all become invested and well-educated in the study of animal
The Zoo and Its Benefits Zoos bring humankind closer to wildlife. Though, sometimes that means taking the animal out of its natural habitat. Some animals have lost most of their habitat and are on the verge of extinction. In this way, the zoo helps the animals rather than using them as a form of human entertainment. Zoos also allow humans to study different kinds of animals more closely.
There has been a long-standing debate surrounding the nature of zoological parks. In recent years, the concern over the health and safety of animals in captivity has grown significantly. This is due, in part, to the rise in attention people have started paying towards the way these animals are treated and held captive within zoological parks. On the news, more cases pop up yearly involving animals that have been abused, neglected, and even killed. Furthermore, animal rights groups have become larger in numbers and more outspoken regarding the problematic existence of zoos. Though despite these facts, there has not been a decline in the amount of people visiting zoos, the economic revenue is as strong as ever, and the establishments are still
