Merriam-Webster defines the word kindness as “the quality or state of being gentle and considerate”. I agree with this definition of kindness, however, my own definition of kindness is a bit different. I do not believe that anyone who portrays the quality or state of being gentle or considerate is portraying kindness, because someone can portray these qualities but have bad intentions. I believe that kindness is an act that comes from a place of genuine and good intentions and I believe that these intentions should come from the heart. I grew up as the youngest of three sisters and one brother. I learned at a young age that if one of my siblings was being nice to me, they probably had ulterior motives. Luckily, my four year old nephew doesn’t
exhibit the same behavior. While my sister is working, I take on the responsibility of babysitting my nephew and I’ve noticed that he exemplifies what I believe kindness means. One example of this kindness was when I was taking care of him one day. My nephew had come home from school and was on the playing with his action figures on the floor when he suddenly turned to me and told me that he loved me so much and that I was his best friend. This shocked me, I wasn’t expecting him to tell me this. I asked him why he told me that and he responded with a big a smile and said that he just he just felt like being nice. I believe that my nephew speaks out of true kindness when he declares his love for me.
It seems that every sibling doesn’t always have a great relationship with their older or younger siblings. In the movie “Real Women Have Curves”, we have two sisters, Anna and Estella, who seem not to get along in the beginning because of their differences, but at the end they become the best of friends because they have similar dreams and learn to support each other. The advantage of Anna and Estella’s relationship is that they benefit from each other. The whole story is that you don’t always realize how much you have in common with your siblings until you realize that you have similar dreams and can be there for each other.
...ss” in all cases of “unconditional kindness”. The benefit received by the altruistic individual defeats the purpose of the action being altruistic—it is not true kindness unless the giver receives no reward for their actions.
Kindness is something America had and something that we lost. We can be so kind to someone yet the next day be so cruel to them. Like what happened in the story With a Little Help From my Friends by Firoozeh Dumas. In a quote from the passage “We remember the kindness more than ever, knowing that our relatives who immigrated to this country after the Iranian Revolution did not encounter the same America.” ( Dumas pg 92)
It is evident in The Virgin Suicides and A Complicated Kindness that the restrictions religion puts in place cause the youth of each text to rebel against the religious system. In A Complicated Kindness, it is made clear from the beginning that there is a “ban on the media, dancing, smoking , temperate climates, movies, drinking, rock ‘n’ roll, having sex for fun, swimming, makeup, jewellery, playing pool, going to cities, or staying up past nine o’ clock” (page). These strict beliefs and rules lead Nomi to rebel. For example, Nomi takes up smoking and drinking, and has pre marital sex with her boyfriend Travis. Additionally, Nomi wears a bonnet for the Mennonite church service, but later burns it with her cigarette.
Generally, sibling rivalry can be quite simple in relationships. It’s easy to generate within a family, especially one with two or more siblings, because
The act of kindness comes by very seldom. “Being kind and generous to people will take you very far in life” is what my great grandmother always told me. Smiling from ear to ear, eyes gazing across the room and that special touch are all it took for her to make someone day. Many days were made if you were surrounded by her and saw that big, bright, and beautiful smile. Soft hands are what she had from giving her entire life. No one went without, you could be a total stranger but she would give you her last.
Being a kind-hearted person in a savage world is not an easy thing to do. The savage world will usually get through to the kind person and change them into a monster, but not Simon. Throughout William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, Simon is the boy who remains good even when the rest of the world remains cruel. Simon is a quiet boy in the story who shows wisdom and civilization, on an uncivilized and savage island.
It isn’t always easy to be kind to others, nor is it easy to fake being kind. Some try to be kind by offering or showering one with stuff. People all around do this, they think giving people things equals being kind and fills heart the same way a compliment would. However, it does not work like that. One does not feel the same way after getting an object as they do when they are are told they look gorgeous, or when someone holds the door for them, or even when someone tries to be inclusive. Often when someone gifts something they do so expecting something in return, they did not do it out of kindness of their heart. A kind person is giving from their hearts, whereas those who give gifts thinking that is being kind are doing so to feel
Siblings were born knowing how to push our buttons. They try to do something to get us angry and if it doesn't work then they will try something else until it does work. Well my twelve year old sister doesn't stop. She constantly tries to get me in trouble knowing that I am the oldest and my parents always blame me no matter the situation. I guess its just our role as the oldest kid to go through all of the trouble our younger siblings make us go through. I didn't know this a four years ago so I kind of messed up… big time.
Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind. Henry James
“It is easy to laugh, it is easy to hurt; it takes strength to be kind and gentle” (Anonymous). It can be hard to be kind to people sometimes but it is always better to be kind to others. In my opinion, kindness is so important to show other people as you never know what someone is personally feeling. Kindness should be shown regardless of what a person looks like. I believe that everyone can be shown kindness, but not everyone can show it. Kindness is the ability to be generous and kind towards others. Kindness to me is the action of being compassionate and empathetic. Kindness has made me a person who expects kindness and respect from others, and it has made me who I am as a person who people will talk to when they need help with anything.
Kindness is a beautiful, intelligent, and loving superhero. She is a girl who does random acts of kindness for girl 's all over the world. She does things for other girl 's, before doing anything for herself. She is the person that you can always count on, no matter what you 're going through.
Growing up with two older brothers taught me to be unselfish, patient, and respectful. Being the youngest of three, I learned I would not always get what I wanted. I would have to be patient and wait my turn for a lot of things, such as the telephone and bathroom. I was glad that I was able to grow up with siblings to teach me these lifelong lessons. All three of us had to be respectful of each other or we would risk getting in trouble with my parents.
The first area that acts of kindness influence involves psychological aspects. One result when performing this task is it allows one to become happier. When focusing on another person, it reduces feelings of loneliness or isolation and can also help to cope with depression. While in the service of others, endorphins are released which are associated with happiness. The discharge of these endorphins provides a longer feeling of calmness and a higher sense of well-being (The Health Benefits of Kindness). In other words, small acts of kindness have a great effect on moods. In return, your mood determines what the rest of the day will be like. Service involves one person focusing on the needs of another. This provides a period of time in which...
In our world today, everyone including myself, has become blinded by their cellphones and their jobs. As each day passes, most people forget about how they act towards other people. Those who are mainly distracted are teenagers like myself. Some are distracted mostly by school or grades. It is amazing to see how active some students are at trying to help the community. However, many might not realize that an act of kindness towards someone can make a difference in one's life. Even the little things in life can brighten someone's day. Making someone else feel better, also makes you feel like you accomplished something. In my perspective, most people act kindly to others expecting something in return. For instance, a student helping out their professor in order to attain extra credit. However, I have seen others do kind things without expecting something in return, this would be an of true kindness. I, myself has
