Recommended: Define what a hero is
What is a hero? Google defines a hero as someone who, “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.” This obviously makes sense, right? A hero should be larger than life, right? Well, my is certainly all of those things, and on top of it a problem solver. You see there was a problem in Cleveland, no championships had been won for over 40 years. Then, in 2003, the year I was born, the solution entered the NBA draft. In the words of David Stern, the commissioner of the NBA, “With the first overall pick in the 2003 draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select LeBron James.” That was when the story of my hero started.
From a young age, probably 3 or 4, I started watching sports intently. I was often let down by the other two sports teams in Cleveland, the Indians and Browns, but I was never let down by Lebron. He was like my superman from a very young age; as he was for many other kids around the country and the world. However, there was still

My hero was hated by millions of people for the next four years while he played for the team in Miami. On the other hand, a hero is someone who defeats a villian, right? Again, a hero is someone who, “saves the day”, right? On July 11, 2014, a day I will likely never forget, Lebron announced he was coming back to the place where he grew up, he was coming back to Cleveland. And, a hero can do practical things right; save an economy for example. According to Cleveland.com, Lebron created millions of dollars of jobs upon his return, increased sales of every restaurant in Cleveland 30 to 200 percent, and most impressively, created an estimated 400 million dollars of revenue. A hero also needs to take action; speak for the voiceless. LeBron is a major activist for social change, starting the hashtag, “We will not shut up and dribble.” All in all, My hero does many things you would expect a hero to
Recently, students of Olympian High School have stumbled upon the question, "What is a hero?" In the school's 2013 Young Minds Essay Contest, students are expected to consider universal concerns and ideas. Many times when people think of a hero, they think of Superman, Batman, and many other Marvel characters who display unattainable superpowers. However, heroes are prevalent throughout the world. A hero can be anyone who has the desire to help others, brave in dangerous situations, and does not look at exterior gain from helping others.
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
The dictionary definition of a hero is someone who is admired of their achievements or their noble qualities. To me, the definition of a hero is someone who helps people and is caring. In this world there are so many people mistaken for heroes. One example of a “hero” is O.J. Simpson. O.J was best known for being the running back of the Buffalo Bills and was nicknamed “The Juice”. Although he was a Heisman Trophy winner he was also a major suspect of a murder case involving his wife and her new boyfriend. Even though all the evidence was there he was found innocent and never went to jail. OJ Simpson was an amazing football player, but he should be judged by everything he does not just his achievements. One person I think is a hero in all realms is Walter Payton. A little after Simpson retired Walter came and played football for the Chicago Bears. Very quickly into his career he was given the nickname “Sweetness” which describes his personality in one word. Walter inspired his team and community. Every Christmas him and his wife helped the underprivileged children around the Chicago area. Walter said “I want to be the guy who is always remembered for giving his all whenever he was on the field”. I think that this quote shows his respectfulness of the sport and his kindness for others.
A hero is a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievement, or noble qualities. John Jay was a hero because he was one the nation’s Founding Fathers. He helped bring independence to the colonies along with creating a constitution

“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.“ These inspirational words of Michael Jordan have been the motto of the successful basketball player on and off the court for more than 30 years. Many people consider him to be the greatest basketball player of all time but a lot of people don’t realize how great of a person he is. Michael Jordan should be considered a hero not in the sport of basketball but as a member of society because of his contribution to the world as a inspiration to kids across multiple countries but also for his generous donations to countless research facilities and charities.
To the world today, a hero is someone distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility, or strength; but really, anyone can be a hero. A hero can vary from someone as well-known as George Washington to someone as unheard of as anyone’s very own mother. Someone who has done a good deed for someone else is hero. The biggest heroes are the ones in well-known books and plays, such as Odysseus from The Odyssey, or have made a huge difference in the history of this world, like Mahatma Gandhi. Siddhartha Gautama is a hero, but not in the same way Odysseus or Gandhi are. Although these three influential people went through different journeys in order to accomplish different things, they are all heroes in their own way and have been through the same cycle of the road of trials and crisis/salvation.
The term “Hero” has been overused lately, ranging from neighborhood “heroes” who walk old ladies across the street, to good Samaritans who rescue cats from trees. That just doesn’t cut it, and neither does Junior. A hero is someone who is admired for his or her achievements. Heroes save lives, change lives for the better, and are generally selfless. While Junior is rather selfless, he lacks achievements which effect lives in a meaningful way, and when he does, it’s usually not in a good way. During the basketball
The definition of a hero is dependent on that society's beliefs, laws and taboos. There are heroes for all ages and for both men and women. Heroes have had changing roles since man wrote his story, and all have been the embodiment of each society, each civilization's ideals. Basketball superstar, Michael Jordan, largely affects the children of today that are enthralled with visions of hoop dreams. He inspires the young depraved ghetto child to rise up against his unfortunate circumstances. Possessing many noteworthy qualities, all heroes possess faults because they are human and all humans possess failings. Because heroes begin to fold and make mistakes as they are suddenly thrust into the awe inspired limelight, and because their pedestals are broken and discarded as the public craves to see the dirt underneath the hero. Heroes are a product of a society's perception of someone to be praised.
When I think of a hero I immediately think of someone who is strong, intelligent, handsome, and daring. Upon closer examination, many different qualities than these become apparent. Courage, honesty, bravery, selflessness, and the will to try are just a few of the overlooked qualities of a hero. The definition of heroism changes with the context and time. Heroes of the past are not necessarily heroes of present time and vise versa.
Ricky Martin once said, "Heroes represent the best of ourselves, respecting that we are human beings. A hero can be anyone from Gandhi to your classroom teacher, anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who is willing to help others in his or her best capacity." A hero can be anyone in everyday life. "A hero does good for good, not for glory." A hero does not expect rewards for their actions; a hero does something because it is right. A hero perseveres when faced with adversity. No matter the physical and mental difficulties, a hero continues trying until their goal is reached. Heroism is acts of kindness, no matter how small, and no matter from whom it comes.
What is a hero? Is it someone with superhuman abilities or god like power or is it just simple people doing the right thing? In this story it’s the combination of the two cause my hero is Hercules. Hercules’s story begin in a place called mt. Oplympus where gods all alike and different go to and where his father Zues rules over the world and beyond. But soon he would be taken away from his home up in the sky by Hates ,the ruler of the dead and the underworld, his minions and took him to earth and transported him from god to mortal ,but he still had one thing that didn’t change ,his strength that was stronger than many gods.Soon he figured out that he is not meant to be on earth but somewhere else far away. So he starts off to mt Olympus where only mortals can see the statue of
Can anyone be a hero? A hero is someone who cares for others and will always put someone else before them. Heroism is not appearing on a movie screen and saving someone from a dangerous situation. In fact the idea of heroism is not always about saving someone. If a person is caring for someone they might be considered their hero because they care about them and they will always put them before their self. A stranger can also be a hero. For example a firefighter, if a someone is saved by a firefighter they might be considered their hero because they but their life before them self. Even if they don’t know the firefighter. Because heroism is about putting others ahead and being brave, when a hero feels hopeless they must stay confident
According to Miriam-Webster Dictionary a hero is defined as a person who is admired for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Everybody has a hero as children. For example, Superman, The President, and many others have been known to be obvious childhood heroes, but one hero who goes unrecognized very often is Eli Cohen. Cohen is a hero because he is intrepid and selfless.
