Freedom for one freedom for all! “Freedom is never more than a generation away from
extinction. We did not pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected,
and handed on for them to do the same.” - Ronald Reagan. What does freedom mean to you?
Freedom to me means unity of the people in daily tribulations, peace in all things, and the liberty
to do what is right. These reasons are the most important to me in the world we live in today.
To start with, unity of the people in daily tribulations. Unity: joined as a whole. In today's
world it can be hard to get past the little things such as race, gender, sexual attractions, religion,
and beliefs. We as a people get hung up on all of the “little things”. But it is possible

to be united as one, be joined as a whole. To do this we need to focus on “no discrimination between men and women. Working together, and fulfilling responsibilities.”- Franklyn D. Roosevelt. We need to be able to think alike about the matters of disagreement in the world today. We need to not protest, and focus on violence, but merely, talk to our government officials in a peaceable manner to get things changed. Rioting and protesting will not get you the attention you want. Nothing will change for better, but only for worse. One could argue that no one will ever put aside their own views and opinions to think or agree with someone else. They would not put aside their goals and to accomplish someone else's. No one is asking them to set them aside. We Olson 2 only ask that they think about how they will be benefited for being united with friends and family. Let us come together as one and be united. Furthermore, peace in all things. Peace: freedom from disturbances. Wars, riots, civil disputes. What are they? Disturbances, that is what they are. There are so many disturbances in the present day. When we turn on the television, all you hear about or see are wars, protests, other countries killing theirs civilians, and other controversial government issues. Why? Because we do not have peace. We need to allow each other to have freedoms. You can not take someone else's freedom without taking freedom from yourself. But we must also be respectful of other people's freedoms. You get what you give. In order to gain peace we must be happy and feel joy. We need to have a “rhythm of joy”- President Reagan. In order to do this we must slowly but surely make peaceful progress. With this peaceful progress our nation will one day be free of disturbances and will be peaceful. “ If we desire a society of peace, then we cannot achieve such a society through violence. If we desire a society without discrimination, then we must not discriminate against anyone in the process of building this society. If we desire a society that is democratic, then democracy must become a means as well as an end.”- Bayard Rustin.
We will
be in the most exciting and hopeful times. The way to do this is through allowing people to have
their freedoms. Freedom is key.
In addition, the liberty to do what is right. Liberty: state of being free within society.
With liberty and justice for all! A very famous line. But what does it mean “liberty and justice
for all”? Liberty means being free, and justice means fair treatment. Which means that the phrase
means being free and having just and fair treatment. We are so gifted with our privileges here in
the United States. Such as, freedom from want, freedom to be ourselves, and freedom from

oppression. Just to name a few. But just like everything else, we must fight for our freedoms. We
must have courage and be brave. We can not do this without the brave and courageous citizens
who want to “believe in a common purpose”- Learned Hands. “Have a new goal for happiness
and well-being.”- Franklyn D. Roosevelt. We must give freedom to receive it. It must all be
fought for. Freedom is earned not guaranteed. For those who earn their freedoms through diligent
labors and dedication, freedom means so much more. But for those who believe freedom
is entitled to them, they only relish in it, abuse it, and do not understand nor defend it. Once it is taken away, there is nothing left. “Liberty is not the power of doing what we like, but the right to do what we ought.” -Lord Acton. In conclusion, we must love and care for every freedom we earn. We must cherish every precious one of them. We must defend what we love and hold dear. And we must come together as one nation and be united in peace and liberty to defend what is ours! “The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending against all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.” -Samuel Adams.

Throughout history, Americans have sought to spread the spirit of equality, which is believed to be the realization of true freedom. Before establishing this freedom, every American had only one question stuck in their head: What is freedom? Our country received it in the year of 1776 from the British through a series of difficulties and wars. African Americans defined it as an escape from slavery, while immigrants defined it as their acceptance into a new society. More yet, women of the women’s suffrage defined their freedom as their recognition into society and for their rights to be equal to that of every other man. These different perceptions of cultures/groups in America tied together to form an American view of freedom. Freedom is something that every American should be willing to do anything in order to maintain. We may have weapons of mass destruction, but when it comes to living in a peaceful, American lifestyle, our freedom is our greatest weapon.
I feel inspired and patriotic every time I see a car’s back bumper sticker featuring an American flag stating, “Freedom Isn’t Free!” The moral clarity of those words rings as true as the Liberty Bell. Those Americans that do not fathom the significance of the motto Freedom Isn’t Free suffer from the very problematic “victim/slave mentality,” which ultimately will become a future reality should more citizens not heed the simple message the sage language conveys. Yes it indeed bears repeating, “Freedom Is Not Free!” Its acquisition from King George’s England involved struggle, its maintenance throughout the first two and a quarter centuries of our Great Republic required sacrifice and its continuation demands perseverance. Wise people fully realize that struggle, sacrifice and perseverance are the vital characteristics of freedom, democracy and independence.

In conclusion, freedom is having power to inflict a positive change on the world. The ability to be yourself and not change for anyone. The right to choose who rules and who doesn’t rule. Having a chance to get out there and show the world what your all about and who you really are. These are all definitions of freedom and what it truly means to be

Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. In America there is numerous of choices that someone may make on a daily basis. If someone were allowed to make their own choices and were being told what to do; then they would not be free. When someone is allowed to speak when they want to, and say what they want; such as their opinion or view of something. Being allowed to have a right to speak is one of the most important characteristics of being an American. Thinking and stating your opinion in any predicament it a strong part in being a citizen because people in the United States are known for being able to think in their own ways. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness...a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence. This well know phrase by John Locke gives three examples of the "unalienable rights" which the Declaration says have been given to all human beings by their Creator, which governments are created to protect. These days there are many people who come to our country to have more freedom than what they have. I think if you have freedom enjoy , it have a good time do not waste it doing plain old and stupid things. Just go and use your freedom and not abuse your freedom. When you have time to go and have freedom, then do not. go out of your educational life if you’re a kid or even if your an adult that is going to school get your freedom right do great things in life not bad things. When referring to freedom these words are often associated with freedom: Liberty, independence, sovereignty, autonomy, privilege, immunity, and indulgence. Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and justice. Independence is granted by freedom in the sense that an outside party does not control you. To gratify ones desires by whichever ways they choose is freedom through indulgence. Privileges are g ranted through freedom. In some countries the dictator or ruler makes choices for their people on regards to what profession they shall have or to what religion they shall worship. In the United States we have special privileges that let the people of the country decide on their own religion and professions.
