An American is someone who is free to do whatever whenever he wants. He is someone who doesn't care about who judges him or what people think. All he cares about is his version of the American dream. His version may be different from everyone else's but an American has the freedom to be different in whatever way he wants to. This is what an American is.
The meaning of being American is the ability to do and feel what u want to do and be able to do it freely. Is the quote, "here individuals of all nations are melted into a new race of men, whose labors and prosperity will one day cause great change in the world"(What is an American paragraph 3), there is an example of freedom in Americans. They are right but this is only about the freedom to choose. There are many more ways to be free, like choosing what job you want, what school you want to go to, or being able to just listen to your self and no one else. They aren't wrong but they don’t have the exact meaning of what freedom is all about. Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free.
