Preamble When in the course of High School athletic events, when student athlete rights are neglected or abused, it is our job as players to make amends. High School sports are a once in a lifetime opportunity that aid in the self-improvement/self-discovery spectrum of High School students. They give students athletes the chance to improve fitness, create friendships and make memories. Do they not? On the contrary, how many of these High School athletes are planning on becoming professional athletes for their occupation? Statistics show, not many. When a sport is not aiding in the teams self-improvement/self-discovery, it is necessary to gain independence from the cause. We want to gain our independence from our volleyball coaching staff, as they are the cause to our programs corruption. It is most respectful and necessary for us to provide reasons for our independence so we have a peaceful break of ties.
Declaration of Student Rights We hold these truths self-evident, that all student athletes are human beings and entitled to respect,

We have explained how we feel about the situation to our athletic director in a private meeting, but because of his ulterior motives to have his daughter on the varsity team, he has done nothing to aid us. We have explained how we feel about the situation to our parents, but because the coaches are bias and don’t take constructive criticism well, our parents don’t want to risk hurting our opportunity as a player on the team. We have explained how we feel about the situation to our coaches, but because they are self-righteous, they are oblivious to their own faults. Time after time we have tried to fix the situation. Our complaints have been ignored and nothing has been done to restore our rights as student athletes. Therefore, we must inform our coaching staff that we want to gain our independence from
Individuals’ right to keep and bear arms in self-defense should be further restricted. For example, George Zimmermann – neighborhood watch citizen responsible for the teenager Treyvon Martin’s death
In a growing trend that reaches to all corners of the athletic world, coaches are being forced to cope with the added stress of disgruntled parents. More and more they are required to defend personal coaching styles and philosophies, uphold team decisions and go head to head with angry, and sometimes violent parents. The pressure has gotten to the point where coaches all over the country are quitting or being forced out of their jobs by groups of parents. High school athletics should be about learning and having fun, and when parents cross the line between cheerleader and ringleader everyone suffers.
The Syracuse department of athletics, teammates, the University of Syracuse and other University team members should be taken into consideration. Finally, regardless of whether or not the father is involved in the decision making process, consideration of his thoughts and feelings must be given proper attention in this matter. Before a final decision is made, each option must address both the advantages and disadvantages.... ... middle of paper ... ...
When in the course of human events, It becomes necessary for students to gain independence from parents and teachers and must state the reasons for why we seek to be independent. It is our sole responsibility and our right to declare our freedom from our parents and teachers and which is why it demands of us to write our own Declaration of Independence to earn the freedom and equality that we seek to gain from our elders.
High school sports are approached with clashing opinions. Some of these opinions are positive, and supportive of athletics. “Athleticism, among many activities, offers teens a physical outlet to exert their troubles, anger, emotions, and other feelings” (Chen 1). This can be observed in nearly all of the football players in Friday Night Lights. This can also be noticed in the world today. “Athletics help high school students understand their own abilities and talents” (Chen 1). This piece of evidence is very accurate when describing high school athletes. Sports can make a high school student humble. As can be seen by the preceding information, high school athletics can have a positive impact on a student’s life.
Learning to set goals and achieve them as a student-athlete will help them become a well-rounded individual. Student-athletes should not be paid to play and the amateur status should remain as it has for generations. Student-athletes have not matured enough at this stage of life to be able to handle all of the additional responsibilities that would be forced upon them with the professional status. Put the almighty dollar aside and let student-athletes be student’s first, amateur athletes second, allowing them to grow and mature into tomorrow’s effective leaders.
High school coaches been sworn at called names and physically threatened by parents before, during, and after the games. Playing time is often at the root of the problem though sometimes a parent is outraged that their son or daughter isn’t being played at what the parent thinks is their child’s best position (Nolan). In addition, equal playing time is important because it developed every player skills.(Nicole). Take, for instance, the case of a young player who has never played for a club before. He’s 11 and charges around the place without being able to control the ball or kick. Many of his teammates didn’t think he should play for their team but the coach has been working with him and one day he wanted to let him play and believe it or not he did very well for his first game that he even made a goal for the team (David). The best thing to do whenever you’re in a sport is that the coaches
Though problems exist, the true qualities of sports maintain the role they have in developing young ones. Varsity sports give great qualities of teamwork unity and give you an opportunity to step outside your norms and do big things. While there are alternatives to everything there are truly nothing better than putting that uniform on for the school you have put major time in for. We must not alienate a basic developing factor that has played huge roles in developing the future. Society must stay with what varsity sports stand for, and just sometimes accept that not everything goes in the way of individuals, but in the way that benefits all and work as one
Unlike many other countries America has freedom of speech. Even in other countries in Europe people are not allowed to use “hate speech” and they can be sent to prison for it. Fortunately, the American constitution defends people’s freedom of speech, no matter how controversial it is. Political correctness diminishes people’s free speech. It may not be direct but even indirectly the knowledge that someone might have adverse consequences; such as losing a job as a result of their speech is unacceptable. People have the right to state their opinions without others infringing on them, it was the principle in which America was founded. The first amendment of the constitution of the United States declares that: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” (US Const. amend. I, sec. i). While the first amendment only affects congress’s control over free speech, it indicates that free speech is a right that people must have. Some people are of the opinion that if something can be found offensive
As the stakes become greater with an emphasis winning championships, debates about the meaning, purpose, and organization of high school sports become more contentious. Historically, boosters who covet state titles and want high school sports to resemble big time college sports have dominated these debates, but many students, parents, teachers, and local citizens have different visions of what school sports should be in the
Success isn’t given, it’s earned on the track, on the field, and in the gym with blood, sweat, and the occasional fear” -Unknown. This is relevant because it is hard for students to want to play sports but also to do well in school. If high school students can’t find the time to keep their grades up or to keep a certain GPA, they should not be allowed to play sports. Students need to prove themselves to be able to play any sport and still be able to do well in school. Also, having good grades shows the coach maturity and may earn them more playing time if they are working hard in school and in practice.
Also, the best way to rid of any chance of these incidents as a whole is by addressing them before they can happen. This can easily and cheaply be done with a universal program for people who are about to become a coach. This would ideally be a kind of training for coaches. For this to work, we would first have to introduce the idea to all sports programs and make it common practice to have prospective coaches go through training. Then, the administration would have the coaches go through seminars held by the administration where they go through the step-by-step to resolve issues with players as well as other useful coaching techniques.
Student athletes live very busy lives. A typical school day runs from 8:00-2:30, add in a two- hour practice or game, score a part time job, dive into some family time, a grand slam of homework and catch a little bit of sleep. Students are more stressed due to the many activities they are a part of. This issue affects a lot of people not only in this school district, but most other high schools throughout the country. All student athletes exercise more than other children who are not involved in an extracurricular sport. In school athletics, the players are called “student athletes” meaning that school activities come first. There are strict rules for student athletes, not only on the field but in the classroom as well. In physical education
Sports can help many at- risk youths. In order to participate in sports you need to be committed and willing to work hard. You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.
... conclusion, looking back at the evolution of sports, it has gone from a group of athletes that played a game they loved whole heartedly, to a group of athletes that play a game basically for greed; gone from a group working together and using their experiences to help others, to seeing how good they can make themselves look. Fans have suffered through players’ strikes so they can make more money. They have started using “performance enhancing drugs” to get bigger muscles so they can out do their own teammates. Sports reports talk about how an individual won the game rather than the team winning the game. Integrity and teamwork need to start at the high school level of sports so these young athletes will know how it feels to work together as a whole. It will benefit them in all aspects of their lives, from school to family and that is something to be proud of.
