The reason for obesity in our country is not the corporations or anyone else's fault but Americans. People are led to believe that the corporation's are at fault for overweight problems, but society is able to make the choice to eat their food or not. It is the people's responsibility to take care of this problem and no one else's. If you are the parent then then the responsibility is to teach kids what a healthy lifestyle is. If the people are not happy with the way they look then they need to take the time to better themselves. Children's T.V shows use cartoon characters and action figures as celebrity figures to entice the kids to watch the show. This happens with fast food aswell, big corporations use characters on happy meals and kids meals to entice them to tell the parents to get them some. In the article If You Pitch It, They Will Eat It, David Barboza shows this problem, disney has teamed up with McDonald's to try and boost profits. Disney and Kellogg's collaborate on a line of cereal as well(32). The corporations do this because most of the customers are young kids or young adults. If this did not change then it is the parent's responsibility to teach them otherwise. The young adults are responsible to fix the problem and change the obesity problem. With things like weight loss pills, workout programs, and thousands of diet plans each claiming they 're the best, it can become overwhelming to decipher what the best option is without a tremendous amount of tedious research. Ever since the creation of the golden arches, America has been suffering with one single problem, obesity. Obesity in America is getting worse, for nearly two-thirds of adult Americans are overweight. This obesity epidemic has become a normal since no one practices any type of active lifestyle. Of course this is a major problem and many wish it wasn 't in existence, but then we start to ask a major question. Who do we blame? There are two articles that discuss numerous sides of this question in their own unique way. “What You Eat is Your Business” by Radley Balko is better than “Don 't Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko due to its position in argument, opposition, and it’s reoccurrence in evidence.

The article ¨If You Pitch, They Will Eat¨, by David Barboza is about how food companies use children´s cartoon to appeal children into buying their food products, causing children to eat and becoming obese. Barboza´s main argument in his essay is that many food companies aim for children because they are an easy target to make money.
According to “Burger Battles” from the Weekly Reader, obesity is defined as a person whose weight is 20 percent higher than recommended for their height (Burger Battles 1). When this condition begins to affect children lives, it is then known as childhood obesity. Within the United States of America, around 15 percent of children are considered to be obese (Holguin 3). Increasing tremendously, this outbreak has actually tripled in the amount of obese teen and doubled in children up to the age of thirteen (Burger Battles 2). One of the factors that is usually overlooked in the cause for obesity is the role of television. Not only does it reduce the amount of physical activity, the advertisements and commercials are targeting innocent viewers. In a survey completed by Gary Ruskin of Commercial Alert, the average child watches nearly 19 hours and 40 minutes of television a week (Ruskin 2). With that amount of time spent watching television, advertisements for fast food will be entering the children’s minds.
So what can be done? We cannot just pin the obesity problem on policy makers. It must be examined by academic, medical, and psychological professions among others. Possible changes in the food assistance programs, expanded knowledge of health and nutrition among those in poverty and availability of nutrient dense foods would be a good start. Other areas that might help curb the issue include boosting agricultural subsidies to farmers to grow fruits and vegetables, increased crime prevention, and improved neighborhood recreation facilities.
Put that burger down? Obesity is a public epidemic because it is rising by the day. Some people are so quick to blame the fast food industry like McDonalds, Burger King, and other firms claiming that these industry aide in creating a society in which it is encouraged to eat unhealthy food. So who really is to blame? While we are busy pointing our sticky finger at restaurants, grocery stores, farmers, or government policies, we need to focus on our individual self as the main cause of this increasing epidemic.
Although the fight against obesity seems like a lost cause, things are being done. Government programs have been set up in school cafeterias, these programs promote healthy eating and start healthy eating habits. Parents need to cut time spent watching television greatly, and they need to encourage more physical activities. There are plenty of opportunities to stop the destructive behavior that causes obesity, and we all need to work together to get it done. In our home, schools, work place and communities, we all need to find a way to make this a healthy nation.

Who is to blame for this? No one party can shoulder the bulk of the blame because it belongs to a large number of people. But the problem now is not to place blame, it is to help these people get in shape—not just to look good—so that they can live longer, happier lives as well. As mentioned earlier, fast-food companies, who are partially at fault, have begun to put out healthier food and advertised it more in an attempt to not only avoid lawsuits, but to help the overweight people who realize that they need to make a change.

Today, many people eat fast food instead of home made food. The reason is that fast food is fast, cheap and convenient. However, at the same time, fast food is contributing to a big social problem in the U.S., which is obesity, and recently some people are beginning to sue the fast food companies for causing their obesity. Should the fast food companies have responsibility for American's obesity? My answer for this argument is "No". I think that whether people eat fast food or not is an individual choice. There are many people who eat fast food, but aren't obese. They may do some exercises for burning calories, or try not to eat fast food as much as they can, caring for their health. Moreover, some fast food companies serve relatively healthy foods, such as Baja Fresh, Subway and so on. Even though people don't have enough money or time to eat except for fast food, they can choose those fast food shops. Therefore, the responsibility of obesity should be taken by obese people, though fast food companies should also take actions to decrease the number of these people by showing their food's calories, serving healthy food, and giving more choices.
Society should consider the physical and emotional problems of obesity in our nation. “Obesity is defined as an excess proportion of total body fat (Mayo Clinic).” American society has become increasingly obese, “characterized by environments that promote increased food intake, unhealthy foods, and physical inactivity (cdcinfo@cdc.gov).” Our nation increasingly has become consumers of a fast food diet. It is so simple to just pick up food on the go and not deal with the hassle of cooking and cleaning up afterwards.
