The article ¨If You Pitch, They Will Eat¨, by David Barboza is about how food companies use children´s cartoon to appeal children into buying their food products, causing children to eat and becoming obese. Barboza´s main argument in his essay is that many food companies aim for children because they are an easy target to make money.

This is true because Wendell Berry states in his article on paragraph four, ¨Most urban shoppers would tell you that food… appears on the grocery shelf or on the table.¨ On David Barboza´s article on paragraph three he states,¨But, a growing number...sets them on a path to obesity.¨ Michael Pollan on the other side, does not talk about the danger of food but talk about how corn is being a mass production and is being used in food in every way possible. All of them uses ethos, logos, and pathos to speak to the audience and to support their claims. I do not like how they all complain about food. Food is food- just eat it. If you do not want to eat unhealthy things, then do not eat. I feel like they are trying to scare me to eat my favorite foods. I will still eat anything and everything no matter how unhealthy it is. Michael Pollan, an American author, journalist, activist, and professor of journalism at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism (Michael Pollan), writes in his book In Defense of Food, the dangers of nutritionism and how to escape the Western diet and subsequently most of the chronic diseases the diet imparts. In the chapter “Nutritionism Defined” Pollan defines the term nutritionism. Pollan’s main assertion being how the ideology of nutritionism defines food as the sum of its nutrients, and from this viewpoint Pollan goes on to write how nutritionism divides food into two categories, with each macronutrient divided against each other as either bad or good nutrients, in a bid for focus of our food fears and enthusiasms. Finally, Pollan concludes that with the relentless focus nutritionism places on nutrients and their interplay distinctions between foods become irrelevant and abandoned.

She was able to evoke emotions by her choice of negatively charged words towards the other author, Stephen Budiansky, and his work, Math Lessons for Locavores. By the end of the article, the reader developed strong negative views concerning the other article solely on Trueman’s diction and her tone. The advertisements are usually advertising unhealthy foods, never healthy ones. “When children watch television, they cannot escape food advertising. “Sugared snacks and drinks, cereal, and fast food advertisements respectively comprise approximately thirty-two percent, thirty-one percent, and nine percent of all advertisements marketed specifically to children.” (Termini, Roberto, Hostetter) Due to limited cognitive abilities, children view many food advertisements, and don’t really have the knowledge or capability to comprehend that the food being advertised is not healthy.
