Dance therapy is entrenched in the expressive nature of dance itself. Dance is the most indispensable of the arts. It provides an outlet in which one can express them in a way that words cannot. It rivets a direct expression and experience of oneself through the body. It is an intrinsic form of authentic communication, and it is an especially effective medium for therapy. Based on the belief that the mind, body and spirit are interconnected, dance therapy, also referred to as DT, is defined as "the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process that furthers the emotional, cognitive, social, and physical integration of the individual" (Dance Therapy). Chace was a modern dancer in Washington, D.C. who began teaching dance after ending her career in 1930. She noticed that some of her students were much more interested in the emotions they expressed in dancing than in the mechanics and technique of dance, and so she began to encourage this form of self-expression. Word soon spread of the wonders that her class had on its students, and doctors became intrigued. They started sending their patients to Chace. Later, Chace became part of the staff of St. Elizabeth’s hospital. The dance cannot exist with music alone; the choreography helps complete the dance. Choreography often involves learning dance from other dancers, or learning a new type of dance to make the existing one more exciting. Going beyond the normal boundary increases the chance that the dance will effectively intertwine the music and choreography, so the dance will go beyond the original idea. Shadowing neurosurgeon Dr. Norgran in high school and pulmonologist Dr. Yaeger in college, has given me a new perspective on going into a career in medicine. These people helped me to see that I would have to be willing to alter the music of my life in order to finish the dance of a medical career.
On September 2nd, I experienced one of the most enjoyable folk dances, known as contra dance, at the First Baptist Church. Due to my cultural and religious background, this experience was new to me and full of mystery. However, it led me to wonder how social music, especially contra dance, is powerful enough letting strangers dance and communicate with each other in a perfect harmony.

There are hundreds of professional dancers across the world waiting to reach their success, and out of those hundreds of dancers, I qualify in becoming one. Dance is my passion, my adrenaline, and my focus that keeps me persevering through life and its obstacles. Miami Dade College’s very own dance majors, who were challenged by the artistry of guest choreographers as well as themselves, performed The Art of Dance. Watching this performance truthfully made me question if the dancers in this program were being trained properly to be professional dancers
Ballet is a popular dance form that originated in the 1500s around the time of the renaissance. It consists of many different forms that have evolved over the years. Choreography is also something that should be made from the heart, it’s not something that should be taken from someone else because at that point, it wouldn’t be considered your choreography and it wouldn’t be something you made from your own mind and creativity. Dancing is a form of art that allows many children to express themselves through body motion while developing many skills. Children throughout the world have been dancing since the day they began walking. When a child to take their first steps and puts together the simplest combination of movements, that would be considered as dancing. Music also plays a major role in the development of children understanding dance, because it is can be used as an accompaniment, and can help children get a better feel for the rhythm in dances.
