There are hundreds of professional dancers across the world waiting to reach their success, and out of those hundreds of dancers, I qualify in becoming one. Dance is my passion, my adrenaline, and my focus that keeps me persevering through life and its obstacles. Dancing requires a lot of dedication and hard work. “Successful dancers must have excellent balance, physical strength, and physical dexterity, so they can move their bodies without falling” (Dancers and Choreographers). If serious about dance, dancers have to have discipline in taking the time out to practice, study, and practice some more. If dance is what you're look forward to doing, I'd get busy because time waits for no one…
Living life as a professional dancer is my dream job. I wish to travel the world showing off my talents by presenting shows that will blow your mind. This job interest me because it's what I look forward to every morning when I wake up. I feel so alive when I'm either dancing or putting steps together for new choreography. “While working as a dancer, dancers get to study different types of dances, and learn how to choreograph routines” ("Dancers and Choreographers). I feel very blessed that I am eligible to understand movements and connect them to real life scenarios. I want to wake up to emails, messages, voicemails, and notifications from

Twitter and Instagram accounts stating how much people really appreciate me and my work. Dance is something that can be dated back in BCE. Dance is a form of communication that tells stories, important rituals, and feelings that people may be feeling throughout their years of living. If I were to be more specific, ballet for instance, “can be dated back in the 1500s in Italy during the Renaissance” (A Brief History of Ballet). Dance has been an important form of communication throughout every form of civilization that has walked the earth. Without dance life would probably not be. There are various forms of dance, but to name a specific genre, it would be modern. There are many great modern dancers in the world, and my favorite so happens to be Martha Graham. “Martha Graham was born in 1894, Allegheny, Pittsburgh, PA. She was known to have the longest dance career in history. “Martha was active for 75 years where her biggest accomplishment was creating a new dance style...modern” (Famous Modern Dancers). “Graham brought modern dance to a new level of popularity in American culture. She created a new language of movement that expressed powerful emotions” (The Mother of Modern Dance). As a dancer it is important to have respect for yourself, the choreographer, the studio, and time.
It is important to have good communication skills, whether it's asking for information or even calling to explain why you may not make rehearsals (not that they care). If you want to maintain your spot or whatever it is they may be able to replace you in, I'd say being on time and having good communication skills is what's going to help you in staying apart of the company. You have to have respect for the “dance world” because there are many people out there who wish to be in your place. Just be mindful and try not to miss any
rehearsals. To add on, if you are a young dancer like me you may not have experience the real "dance world" yet, but to prepare, many young adults just start out with the basis by being on time to class. You could also build a solid foundation on dance and how it became popular today. “You could also become more knowledgeable about your craft” (The Right Steps Towards A Career In Dance); Find out what steps other dancers took that led them in becoming successful. “You want to build connections through network; Design a blog, website, or social networking page dedicated to your work of dance” (The Right Steps Towards A Career In Dance). Because you are young, you want to go ahead and study as much dance terminologies as possible. This will give you an advantage in knowing and understanding the movements in dance. To close out when I succeed my dream, I find it a must to give back to those who've made it possible for me to even think about going places and being a star. By giving back I mean having the courage and patience to open up my own studio that will train and educate dancers in following their dreams like me. This is important because this will show the appreciation I have for those who've done for me and who have led me on the straight path. Doing this will be my biggest accomplishment. Dancing isn't easy and it will require a lot of practice hours.
Ballet is an athletic art form that utilizes muscle control, flexibility, and physical strength. It requires extreme discipline from the dancers and takes an extreme amount of mental concentration. This discipline causes dancers to have success throughout life and specifically in academic studies. There are many ways that dance can affect the success of a person’s life; however, there are two in specific that make dancers generally more successful. To begin, ballet causes dancers to be self-motivated workers; dancers cannot rely on others to push them to be better, but must have the drive within themselves.
The best expression of dance comes from a skilled and experienced dancer. Ultimately, I want to dance the dance of medicine in a way that fully expresses the essence of the dance, which is a dance of knowledge and compassion. A dancer that can take the music and choreography and express the essence of the dance, has an indefinable quality that only those with a pure love for their calling can possess. In dance, that special quality is what separates the average dancer from Baryshnikov or Pavlova. That aspect is one that intertwines unsurpassable skill with a focused relentless devotion to the task. Although I have danced since the age of three, I know I do not have this prima ballerina quality, but as a future doctor, this same kind of quality is what drives me.
The typical idea of a dancer is that they are tall, slender, full of energy, and lucky because they dance with all of the “stars”. Much of this is true, however, what many people do not think of are the many hardships that a dancer goes through in order to achieve their high status in the dance world. It takes much hard work and determination along with good direction to become a dancer. However, nothing good comes without a price. Dancers often times have many pressures put on them which can lead to physical and emotional damages. These damages occur through the pressures from the media, parents, teammates, and the stereotype that society has placed on dancers.
I have always been fascinated by the many arts. Around September of last year, I discovered a show that had to do with dancing and singing, which caused me to have a slight interest in the former. In November, my best friend showed me a band that is talented in dancing, and this group has fueled my curiosity. Furthermore, I have already taken a few steps towards learning their dances. I aspire to accomplish the ability to dance because of this group, I am trying to learn the choreography to their songs, and I want to perform in front of people who enjoy watching others dance.
For most dancers, ballet is not just a hobby but a career that requires years of training. Ballet dancers often began training at a very young age as it takes years to mould the body into the unnatural shapes suitable for ballet (Rinaldi, Hanley & D’Amboise, 2010, p. 16). Eight to ten is said to be the best age for girls to start ballet training; boys may begin a bit later (Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, 2015). Ballet dancers train in order to compete in major events such as the Youth America Grand Prix, the New York International Ballet Competition, the Prix De Lausanne and the International Ballet Competitions; but they also train with the purpose of joining a professional ballet company (Diana, 2010).
does our society fail to respect dance as a sport? Dancing as a career requires an incredible
Miami Dade College’s very own dance majors, who were challenged by the artistry of guest choreographers as well as themselves, performed The Art of Dance. Watching this performance truthfully made me question if the dancers in this program were being trained properly to be professional dancers
Dancers can’t just practice their routines in class and expect to perfect it. I set goals and I work hard for those goals no matter how tough they are to accomplish because I am determined and when I reach them it makes me feel good. Although dance means everything to me, it does take up a lot of my time and I never have time for anything else. Dance is not easy at all! I am sore most of the week just from dance.
Although, dance requires some natural skill it also requires dedication. Natural ability and talent will only get dancers so far. Dancers must work hard and persevere. Dancers give years of their lives plus their sweat, tears and sometimes blood to have the honor and pleasure of performing on stage. Dance takes dedication, commitment and passion from the dancer. The only one who can stop you from reaching your dance goals is you! Practice, persistence and determination pay off. Dancers that dedicate themselves countless hours every day, week, and month to become more confident and have more toned dedication and skill. So clearly, there is a question in people's minds about whether dance is a sport or an art. The dance community consists of many different factions and styles. You can dance at a club for fun, as a hobby, as a serious passion, or you can dance as a career. To be able to dance well, one needs to have flexibility, strength, stamina, endurance, and a love for what they do. I can see why people think that dance is not a sport. I know we make it look easy, but as many people don’t know, it’s really quite difficult. When you really take a look and see how many things football and dance have in common, you will see that dance truly is a sport. Dancers work just as hard as any football player in the United States. To conclude my thoughts my favorite quote in the world, “If dance were any
Irish dance is known all around the world for its music, style, and costumes. What once started as a cultural folkloric dance has now turned into a worldwide phenomenon because of many contextual factors on the three defining characteristics. In this paper I will attempt to show how the Gaelic League, An Coimisiún, and Riverdance influenced and changed the posture, movement, and appearance of the dance form. The story of Irish dance thus far is one of a constant changing dance that reflects the influences around it. Each of the changes in the style, costuming, and meaning of the dance has molded it into the globally accepted and loved dance form seen today.
Ballet is a popular dance form that originated in the 1500s around the time of the renaissance. It consists of many different forms that have evolved over the years. Some examples of these forms include French Ballet, Vaganova (Russian Ballet), Cecchetti (Italian Ballet), and Balanchine. Ballet forms and variations originated mainly from Italy, Russia, and France. However, today, many different forms of Ballet exist. Despite the many different variations, all Ballet has certain things in common. It is an effective form of exercise, requires special equipment, contains many set principles, and can result in specific injuries.
First off, sit yourself down and evaluate your reasons for wanting to join the team in the first place. Maybe it’s because you look up to certain choreographers and directors on that team or maybe you’re just in love with the team’s style of dancing and you want to grow in that style. When you’re able to list out your “why”, it’ll help you focus on your goals throughout this intimidating process of auditioning. Also know what you’re getting yourself into. Being on a dance team might seem cool when you’re just watching them, but do know it takes a lot
As a child I always wanted to be in the spotlight. I was always the ham in family pictures, the one who had to excel past my brother, and be in the know of everything. When I was about twelve years old, I realized that entertaining people was what I was all about. Since I wasn’t any good at telling the jokes around the campfire or singing acappella, I thought about trying my dance skills. I liked dancing and I have always enjoyed music videos like Janet Jackson’s “Miss you much”, so I thought why not? What did I have to lose? With the support of my parents, particularly my mom, I went for the gusto.
The Northern Territory is known for its culturally diverse population and some would say it is the ‘multicultural hub’ of Australia. With all of these cultures comes distinctive customs and traditions. Throughout history dance has been used to help people develop a sense of identity, the younger generations are also taught social patterns and values through the different dances. The significance of these traditional dances was to reinforce and celebrate cultural law and practices including the celebration of the passage from child to adulthood or spiritual worship. The predominantly Western culture in Australia often causes minority groups to struggle for recognition regarding their beliefs and traditions. This is parallel to the Australian dance industry, where many cultural dance groups feel they have to justify who they are and are often
“Dance, the art of precise, expressive, and graceful human movement, traditionally, but not necessarily, performed in accord with musical accompaniment. Dancing developed as a natural expression of united feeling and action.”
