To put it simply, DECA has changed my high school experience so far, for the better. I have found a love for it, that I never knew I would find. Before coming to high school, I heard great things about DECA, as well as the business classes. That year, I was in the Law and Justice Academy and had my heart set on being an attorney. Boy, did that change. I had Financial Literacy that year, mainly because it was on the course schedule for the academy. I had the pleasure of having Mrs. La as my teacher that year. She opened my tiny, little, Freshman eyes to the world of business. She was so passionate about DECA and encouraged all of her students to join. It sounded like a lot of fun. In my class, was one of my closest friends. We decided to do …show more content…
I have no idea why we chose to compete in this event because we had no idea what we were doing. Looking back, I don’t think either of us attended a Mini-comp. We had no idea what key indicators were or how to even approach the role play. We walked in and gave it our best shot. We thought we didn’t do that bad, though we didn’t make it to Finals. My partner wrote a paper to go to states, but I didn’t. I made several mistakes that DECA season. But those mistakes I made, only allowed me to grow in the future. Now, it’s Sophomore year. I was so invested in DECA this year. It got me excited and I could not wait to compete. I did my research a little bit more and decided to write a 30 page paper with my partner from Freshman year. It was my goal to go to States, and that paper would take me straight there. I had an idea for an app, one that a lot of people supported. For five months, my partner and I worked on that paper. We got together on weekends and worked for hours. This experience made me realize part of what DECA means to me. DECA is working together with others to shoot for the stars and achieve greatness. My partner and I fell in love with our paper and project. It was like …show more content…
I have become so passionate about DECA and wish to pass that down to incoming students and students who haven’t yet become involved in the organization. Like DECA, I want to inspire future leaders and business students within the school. I would like to work towards the expansion and promotion of the club. I want to help other students become better competitors, as well as expand my skills. My Entrepreneurship Promotion Project next year will introduce 8th graders to entrepreneurship and DECA. By the end of my workshop, I hope that all of the students will be signing up for business classes their Freshman year. Along with DECA, I am very dedicated to Drama Club and my school work. Using my skills from DECA and marketing, I am running for the Promotion position on the Drama Club Executive Board. To balance my time, I am willing to do whatever I have to do to split my time between the boards. Drama Board only meets once a month, and I am willing to spend my lunch and my study hall next year with the DECA Executive Board if necessary. When I am dedicated to something, I completely invest myself into it. During the school year, I commit a lot of time to DECA. I am creative and can come up with good ideas on the spot. I have a lot of ideas for improving the club. I think that we should focus on advertising DECA to middle schoolers, but also high schoolers as well. I feel as though more promotion could be
This school has had 5 principals in 4 years. I spoke earlier about this school being a part of the I-zone. The I-zone is a special subset of schools within Shelby County that are given the task of leading a school from the bottom 5% to the top 25%. In that there is a high turnover rate with administrators and teachers. I was selected to be a turnaround principal given a certain amount of time with the authority to make necessary changes. The community asked for a principal they could relate to. They wanted to be involved with the school and wanted resources given back to them so they could help their children. I listen to community concerns and established a parent power committee so they could be partners in education with us. We reached out into the community to garner some wrap around services to help and support our students. We gained seven (7) new Adopters who have formally taken the charge to provide resources that all students will need to achieve academically. Life Church gives us food. Bellview Baptist Church comes in and tutors all our 2nd grade students. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity has volunteered to come in and work with our students on STEM projects. We have Omega Psi Phi who comes in an exposes our kids to social and character development. And the list goes on. There just so many programs and organizations ready to work with us because they know
Being an active member of my DECA organization in high school I saw a new side of the business world that I didn’t know existed. Being forever grateful for how much this organization has influenced my life I wanted to give back and get the word out to other students how amazing this club is. Becoming my DECA chapter’s secretary has allowed me to love DECA more than I thought was imaginable. Thinking becoming the secretary I would be helping DECA more than myself was naive of me, following this action I realized how much I like being a leader and having huge influences on an organization empowers me to work harder. Currently working at a Boutique I get to see a lot of “behind the scene” situations that my boss has to deal with. I have seen her stress and struggle about decisions and situations dealing with the boutique. But I’ve also gotten the opportunity to learn with her about some of the dos and don’ts with a small business, learning how to deal with certain situations that I wouldn’t be able to learn by reading a book in school, and how to avoid little mistakes that I may have made if I didn’t work at the boutique now. Both of these factors contributed significantly in my decision to getting a degree in business/marketing more than I could
I am involved in several clubs, such as Spanish club and HOSA, although I do not hold office in any of them, I try to serve as a leader and to use my intelligence to help the school. As a leader I am capable of using my potential to aid in inspiring others. I hope to prove myself to be a good example and guide for those who need help. As a new inclusion to NHS, I am committed to help my fellow students study and to do their best. I possess a variety of study and organization skills that I can pass on to other students. I am a open-minded and patient person, making it easy for me to take criticism willingly and accept recommendations thoughtfully. I can work well either individually or on a team and can Inspire positive attitudes and behaviors in others. I promise to utilize my leadership skills and work with other NHS members to achieve success for the school. With my characteristics, I will inspire new concepts and further develop the character of NHS. I plan to volunteer in events as much as possible, and can fill in for other people who can’t be in attendance. Whether I’m volunteering or helping a fellow student, I vow to act with honesty, integrity, diligence, and the best of my ability. With my skills and abilities, I Would be proud to step up and represent NHS with confidence. I am a great strategist and am able to
Despite not being a part of over 20 different organizations, as some claim to be, being a part of a smaller number of groups has allowed me to focus on developing my leadership skills more thoroughly than I could otherwise. Not spreading myself too thin has made me much more committed and involved in the organizations that I am a part of, making my influences so much stronger. I firmly believe that I am trying my absolute best not only in school, but in leaving my comfort zone and being an active member in our community. I am honored that I have been considered for such a prestigious invitation as
by creating persuasive flyers and posters throughout the school and placing them at various areas on campus. If I were selected to be on the decorations and publicity committee, I would use my creativity and artistic abilities to make colorful and vibrant posters that would encourage various groups and clubs on campus. I would also wear any spirit wear that is associated with the group or club that includes the group name or logo on it to help support them throughout campus. This would be a great step to promoting and supporting the important groups and clubs on campus because it shows the passion that leaders have towards encouraging and supporting the club or group. Other ways that I would support various groups and members of our school would be by setting out to become a great leader that strongly motivates and encourages people throughout campus. Making lively posters and wearing spirit wear to support the people, groups, and clubs throughout campus are the steps to promoting them throughout Cal High. I know that following through with each of these ideas are great ways to show my support and enthusiasm towards these groups on campus, but it is even more important to become a great leader and use the skills of a good leader to encourage them. This can mean just showing my enthusiasm and school spirit towards these groups and clubs in order to help support them, or it can mean informing the entire
I want to be a member of Senior Class Cabinet to increase Darby pride and continue to lead within Darby, while also creating new events to make senior year the best it can be. I have been at Darby for nearly three years now, and every year the senior class, and specifically Senior Class Cabinet, are constantly finding ways to encourage younger students to get involved within the school, while also continuing to make their own senior year more memorable. During my time thus far at Darby, the upperclassmen have shaped my ideas and thoughts about Daby, while also teaching me that what you get out of the high school experience is exactly what you put into it. While not everyone may get involved in school spirit, doing so creates a more upbeat atmosphere and creates a more memorable experience. By getting involved in Senior Class Cabinet, we can portray a similar message to
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
Coming out of my senior high school was one of the most difficult tasks I 've been given up to this point in my life. I was overwhelmed, excited, sad, busy, and uncertain of the near impending future. The past 13 years of my life I had been studying, practicing, playing, and working my way towards a brighter future. I could see the future in front of me, it was as if I could reach out and touch it. It was almost like getting a shot at the doctors, I knew it was what was best for me but I was terrified anyway. But I pushed aside my fears and on August 8, 2015, I set foot on a college campus, my home for the next four years. I knew why I was there though; I came to college in order to channel the love I have for my country into the motivation necessary to take the next step up the ladder towards a constitutional law degree, a degree I’ll use to protect this country and the people who reside in it. But to truly understand why I came to college, I have to start at the beginning.
Our organization is needed to help counteract the stigma placed upon black girls and help support them and guide them through the world through mentorship teaching them along the way the beauty of being a black girl. Our organization works closely with young girls ages 4-16 in the Washtenaw and Wayne county community where we hold bi-weekly meetings with our young girls and well as weekend activities. Our meeting consist of homework time in the first hour where we help the little girls with their school work whether that be math, literature, science and etc. This time also gives us one on one time with our mentees where we discuss with them about what has been happening in their life and catch up on everything since our last meeting time. For the rest of our meeting time we would dialogue discussion about things we see on the media, about what it means to be a women of color, share our experience and methods to combat racial discrimination and etc. We also use this time to have a moment of silence and write and reflect in our dream
Over the four years that I have spent at Good Counsel, I became part of many activities. Each helping me evolve as a person and become stronger yet. Simple lists could be made of every activity that I have ever been involved in but it could never express to a person what I have learned and how it helped me to grow. Every environmental club, science club, political science club, service work, and S.A.D.D. club I was part of had a very special message to deliver to me. Whether the message was one of responsibility, or a life lesson, I grew from it. The Political Science club opened me to many new experiences. It allowed me the chance to attend the Model U.N., where I was asked to address today's top world issues. This club was very beneficial to me because I was exposed to topics and ideas that I had not previously been able to discuss or learn about in a classroom situation. The science club allowed for me to experience extra educational situations as well. I took part in a hovercraft competition, which was very educational while also allowing me the chance to work with others for a common goal.
I have been involved with the Keene Lions Club for six years now; I have loved and enjoyed every moment of it. My first show being “Seussical the Musical,” I fell in love with what the Keene Lions Club does for great of our community. Since being part of the theatrics of the club with their annual shows, I have served as an ensemble member, audition accompanist, and keyboardist for the orchestra. No matter the experience or task given at hand, I have always felt welcomed by everyone’s encouraging personalities, and talents. When I first took part in the shows, I wasn’t sure what the ‘mission’ was, I just thought it was a really great ensemble that performs a new show each year. I soon learned that everyone in the show, as well as the audience
As a student, I am an active participant in my academic and extracurricular activities. My first priority has always been to make good grades and learn in school. Although this is important to me, I also know that by participating in clubs, sports, and after school activities, I will become a well-rounded student. During the past years of my high school career I have participated and received awards in the following: Cheerleading (eight years), twice as captain, '97 -'98 Varsity Letter in Cheerleading, '98 AIM scholar, Who's Who Among American Cheerleaders, and '98 Academic Excellence Award while participating in Virginia High School League Interscholastic Activities. I also belonged to the following clubs: S.A.D.D. club (two years), second year as secretary, Pep Club, Varsity Club, Choir Club, and Computer Club. In the year '99 -'00 I received awards in the following classes: Computer Applications, Spanish I, World Geography, and Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry. I also received an award for Most Encouraging Student. I currently belong to the Hiking and Outdoor Club, Ski Club, Pep Club, and Environmental Awareness Club. In addition, this year I participate in a program called Read With A Friend. In this program I, along with a group of other students, go to the near by elementary school to read to a class of students from kindergarten to fifth grade.
Being a Grade 12 student, I was in a lot of stress because I had to take care of both academic schoolworks and apply to schools. Thus, I decided to focus on several clubs that are very meaningful for me. Firstly, I continued to participate in Z club. One of the most memorable activities we did was to promote Breast Cancer awareness in October. This time was different from last year because last time we only promoted to faculties in school’s media center. This year, however, we decided to promote to the whole school by singing, dancing, and creating a presentation to advance students’ understanding. All the club members were worried at first because not all adolescents were mature enough. Nevertheless, knowing that the problem is significant,
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
There was a significant amount of knowledge given in this course, involving concepts that in our teaching career will be extremely important. From this course I have gained a significant amount of learning experiences. I had the pleasure learning about how the educational system has come to be what it is today and who were the important people in the creation of the public education, like Horace Mann. Watching the videos and reading the chapters required has opened my eyes more of how a teacher should respond to different situations involving a student, For example when we read the chapter on the laws that revolve around the educators and the students. I had absolutely no clue that students had rights while in school property. Another learning
